Everton FC
Can anyone tell me how it came about that Everton FC took the disappearance of Madeleine McCann under their sportive wings? Granted, Ms Kate Healy hailed from Liverpool but that doesn't explain the show of support extended - are we to suppose that Madeleine supported Everton FC at the tender age of three?

I can understand Rhys Jones, murdered in cold blood by a gang of thugs in 2007, because he was from Liverpool.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Rhys Jones was due to start secondary school at Fazakerley High School in September 2007.
Fazakerley - a locational surname derived from a small place in the parish of Walton on the hill near Liverpool.
Fazakerley - coincidently the same name as Sergey Malinka's business associate Matt Fazakerley of Island Expeditions
Not suggesting for a moment there is any connection between the callous murder of Rhys Jones and the suspicious disappearance of Madeleine McCann but...... Everton FC?

Failing that, perhaps you have something constructive to add to the forum.

Re: Everton FC
BILL KENWRIGHT AND HIS CONNECTIONS
Yes, Bill Kenwright is a key figure here in putting Everton FC right behind the Madeleine McCann campaign.
His close personal friendship with disgraced entertainer Michael Barrymore has already mentioned, see here:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Michael Barrymore sought sanctuary with showbusiness friends at the weekend following police questioning over the murder of Stuart Lubbock.
The disgraced entertainer, who was released on bail on Friday night, spent Sunday morning at the home of West End impresario Bill Kenwright and his girlfriend, Jenny Seagrove.
He helped the 49-year-old actress with the gardening at the couple's North London mansion.
One neighbour said: "We had heard him in the morning singing in the garden with Jenny Seagrove.
"They seemed to be having a nice time and we could see them doing some gardening.
"But when he came out of the house to drive off, it looked like he had suddenly remembered what was happening. He looked really stressed out, like he was about to cry."
Barrymore, 55, left in a Ford Fiesta thought to belong to Miss Seagrove. He refused to talk to reporters.
It is believed that he became friends with the couple last year when he starred in Mr Kenwright's musical production of Scrooge...
=========
As some long-time forum members will recall, I played a modest part in Barrymore getting arrested in the first place. In fact, Barrymore had been living with Kenwright before his arrest. Indeed, he was arrested and bundled into a police van as he left Kenwright's house for a walk along the North London canal.
Kenwright is an extremely successful, extremely wealthy former actor, now theatre producer and general impresario and 'fixer'.
He moves in very exalted circles.
See here for example...Sir Philip Green, swindler of BhS employees' pension funds and provider of a private jet for Kate & Gerry McCann, is a great pal of Bill Kenwright:

1 Aug 2004 - Philip Green is helping Bill Kenwright rescue Everton, having talked the theatre impresario out of resigning as chairman of the troubled football club on Friday night.
Last September, an article with the headline, “Who is the main player in the Everton show?” was published on the website Everton Viral. Written by an anonymous author, @watchedtoffee, it described the complicated process that saw Kenwright’s consortium, True Blue Holdings, purchase a majority shareholding that year thanks to a substantial loan from BCR Sports – a family investment set up by Earl, the founder of Planet Hollywood and a long-term friend and business associate of Green.

It's also fascinating to look back at the news items for May 2007, days after Madeleine McCnn was reported missing, when we read that the following members of the 'Great and the Good' were subscribers to the £2.5 million pound reward fund established for anyone with information leading to her being found:

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"
Amelie McCann (aged 2): "Maddie's jammies!".

My whole point was the fact that Everton FC were already supporting the McCann defence campaign in May 2007, as per my post [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] up-page.
NB: What were Bill Kenwright and his girlfriend Jenny Seagrove doing in the garden - picking a lily ?

No end to Madeleine family agony
The parents of Madeleine McCann are spending a second weekend without their daughter, who disappeared from a Portuguese holiday apartment on 3 May.
Mother Kate attended a church service in the Algarve village of Praia da Luz where prayers were said for Madeleine.
On Saturday, Gerry McCann paid an emotional tribute to his daughter as the family marked her fourth birthday.
Relatives have released posters drawing attention to a distinctive marking in the youngster's right eye.
They hope that the picture - which clearly shows how Madeleine's pupil runs into her blue-green iris - will make her easily recognisable.
Rewards totalling £2.5m have been offered to anyone who can help with information leading to the safe return of Madeleine, from Rothley in Leicestershire.
Businessman Sir Richard Branson, footballer Wayne Rooney and children's author JK Rowling are among those who have contributed.
Speaking at a special mass on Saturday, Kate and Gerry McCann called for people to keep looking and praying for their daughter, but also acknowledged the huge effort and resources being put into the search.
"Today we should be celebrating the fourth birthday of our daughter Madeleine," said Mr McCann.

"Instead we have had to remember what a normal, beautiful, vivacious, funny, courageous and loving little girl we are missing today."
Madeleine's uncle, John McCann, praised the amount of support the family has received from people in the UK.
He told the BBC on Sunday: "The general response has been magnificent - the wishes and the prayers that are coming in from all over the country has been astounding."
He also said the family was overwhelmed by the support from the congregation and the priest in the Algarve.
In the latest sign of solidarity, hundreds of Portuguese bikers are preparing to ride the length of the country distributing posters of the missing girl.
Formal statements
The official ground search for Madeleine in the Algarve has ended, but police say they still have significant leads to follow up.
The focus has shifted from a local search for Madeleine to an international child abduction inquiry, amid suggestions she may have been taken out of Portugal.
Some of the nine people who were questioned on Thursday and Friday - mainly family and friends of the McCanns - may be asked to make formal court statements, BBC correspondent Alison Roberts said.
Police have said none of the people in the McCanns' close circle is a suspect.
Detectives are also continuing to cross-check CCTV footage of several cars with witness statements in their efforts to identify a possible abductor, our correspondent said.
Police have declined to confirm or deny reports about any possible leads, citing Portuguese law.
The international number for Crime stoppers is +44 1883 731 336. People with information about Madeleine can call anonymously.
