FOR the past 25 years Kerry Needham has fought like a tigress to try to find her missing son.
With just a mother’s undying hope in her heart and the support of her devastated family, she has never given up on little Ben, who disappeared on the Greek island of Kos a quarter of a century ago.
Kerry had to watch as the campaign to find Madeleine McCann went global and raised millions of pounds.

In stark contrast, she received virtually no help or money from the authorities and while full of sympathy for Kate and Gerry McCann, Kerry understandably found this unfair and frustrating.
She has battled for years, putting her health at risk.
At her lowest she considered suicide.
One thing kept her going — her burning desire to be reunited with Ben.
After years of banging her head against a brick wall, Kerry was finally told that funding had been made available for a special police team to swoop in to Greece and conduct a proper search for her son.

Realistically, this is her last hope, so it is tragic that the investigation has been over-shadowed by photos of officers apparently having “fun in the sun” when they should have been working round the clock and following up all possible leads.
The team arrived on Tuesday with £1million to spend to find Ben and, hard as it is to comprehend, we are told they headed to the nearest pub in the early evening.
The Sun’s front page, which showed photos of smiling officers knocking back pints and looking for all the world as though they were on holiday, was baffling.

Obviously no one would begrudge them a quick bite to eat or a drink after a hard day’s graft but they must surely realise they have given the impression they are wasting time and money and not taking the investigation seriously.
I feel so desperately sorry for Kerry.
Since Ben disappeared she has had her hopes raised and dashed too many times to count.
I interviewed her shortly after he went missing and she was still wide-eyed with shock and her grief was just heartbreaking.
Since then, on the many anniversaries to remember Ben, we have met and I have been struck by her courage.
She is convinced that one day she will find her son.
Kerry is tiny little thing and looks as though a gentle breeze would knock her over, but she is made of strong stuff.
She has had to be, as it has been a long and often lonely journey through a very dark place.

This would be the same Lorraine Kelly who has done nothing but fawn over the McCanns on her telly sofa, (even down to discussing Kate's bad feet) holding up the tat that was sold on the McCann website and offering oozing words of comfort.

Now she's team Ben.

Hi Bluebag, Lorraine managed to bring in the Story of Madeleine McCann in reference to missing Ben Needham in comparison alongside the "Beer Swilling" UK cops, it's funny(LK) did not bring up about the useless"Sardine Munches" taking Four Hour lunches when Madeleine McCann had been reported as missing in Portugal 3 May 2007, when the Portugal PJ ought to have been looking for the disappeared child and not on the lash, eh Michael Walker comments about Kate and Gerry, in the early day comments from(MW) a close "Family friend"?
Are the MSM/press using the Ben Needham case for the right reasons or is it to highlight something else, Ben Needham £1 Million, Madeleine McCann £12-15 Million?

Be fair, Pennylane. The night she went missing they searched high and low for her, leaving no stone unturned. It's not like they had a kip or anything while others searched for their daughter. Oh, hang on a minute... tease

Why is investigation into Maddie's disappearance named "Operation Grange"?

The dictionary defines grange as -

historic
an outlying farm with tithe barns belonging to a monastery or feudal lord.
archaic
a barn.

The hunt for Madeleine McCann last night centred on a disused barn near Praia da Luz where police found a towel stained with what may turn out to be the little girl's blood.
Fibres found on the towel allegedly match fibres from the hire car rented by Maddie's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann.

Portuguese detectives discussed the breakthrough when they met British police and a Crown Prosecution Service official last week at a police station in Leicester.

Today, for the first time the Sunday Express can shed light on the new avenue police are pursuing in the hope of a breakthrough in the baffling case.
Based on fresh information from mobile phone surveillance, police began a search of an area in the south east of the resort. They came across a towel, with an Aztec design, near a disused barn in a remote area close to Praia da Luz.

Portuguese sources say forensic scientists used a substance called Luminol to look for blood deposits and found three sites on the edges of the towel. They tested the blood deposits to see if there was a match with Madeleine's DNA.

Although the samples were not good quality the scientists were able to do what is called low copy analysis, which showed there was "moderate” support to suggest the blood deposits matched Madeleine's blood.

The results were not conclusive and are not regarded as being strong enough to be presented as evidence in any court case.
They also found a loaf and a carrier bag, which produced no significant information, but close analysis of the towel revealed fibres which were not made of the towel material. The fibre fragments were microscopically examined against fibres found in the boot of the Renault Scenic hired by the McCanns 25 days after Maddie vanished.

Portuguese police sources say there was "strong support" that the fibres found on the towel matched fibres from the boot of the car.

One possibility being considered by the Portuguese detectives was that the towel had at some point been in the boot of the Renault Scenic, which would explain how fibres had got on it.

Exactly!
She didn't begrudge them.
In fact she asked for DCI in charge Matt (something, can't recall what) to be returned to Kos.

What a bleeding waste of time and money (airfare) recalling him back over nothing.
Journalist irresponsible reporting making an issue out of non issue is senseless.
Despicable Kelly labelling them "Shameful" cops just to sensationalise isn't serving any useful purpose. Nothing shameful in having off duty drinks.

She didn't condemn Kate & Gerry for children neglect.
So, she condones child/ren neglect, but condemns off duty drinks.... weird moral value she has.

The whole thing is a publicity stunt by the Met to take the criticism of Grange away by pretending that they are prepared to look for other children . . .

I loved their first act.
Go back to the farmhouse, hold a press conference, and say
"If you are Ben, please come forward . . ."

Wait twenty minutes, and then adjourn to the pub.

I thought they spent all that night working out details and timelines on improvised notepaper with their friends, but hey, that can't be right, because according to many, the McCanns and their friends had already entered into a conspiracy to cover for the disappearance of their daughter prior to 10 pm. the 3rd. inst. May 2007.

One would naturally assume that this would have involved at least some form of rudimentary pre- planning, as opposed to improvising after the event. After all, I'm sure Terry Perkins, Kenny Collins et al didn't just happen to meet in Hatton Gdn. and decide to burgle the Deposit Box Company after hearing the alarm go off.

It just goes to show that journalists are mere puppets, they don't have minds of their own, Investigative journalism is dead. They just print what they are told to, either that or they just do for the extra cash.

Just like Brunt and many others, Kelly has contradicted herself and made a complete fool of herself. Surely these people realise that they can't really get away with this without ruing their reputations and their careers.

As for Grange, I too suspected that it may refer to the disused barn, but more likely to be the large Knutsford property that Kennedy bought as a base for the ~~dodgy~~ private investigation.
