They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. I have just watched the youtube video. My heart goes out to Mr Balkwell. However, when Mr Balkwell was speaking, absolutely no-one in the background gave him the courtesy of standing behind him to listen. The presenter and everyone else in the shot were busy talking. The presenter behind walked back and forth (drinking from a styrofoam cup). Others just chatted away. No-one in the shot was interested in what Mr Balkwell had to say.
I find that very sad, very disrespectful.
