Thanks Jill.
Both sounded rather aggressive, I thought.
A pre-emptive strike to fend off what's coming in the June libel case?

Because subconsciously she thinks it will be easier to get lost at sea than on land?
Having noted this, I would have to suggest that prisons like the old Alcatraz would not be a very suitable eventual placement for this type of person. Not if they are prepared to take this kind of a risk.
There are sharks out there.

The safety of prisoners has to be paramount, kangdang. If I sentence somebody to serve three weeks or twenty years, I like to know that they have served each day with guilt and remorse. None of this jumping into an ocean and having a day off. What if they don't make it back to shore? This is just another sentence that has not been carried out.
The cost of preparing Fred West and Harold Shipman's trials were outrageous. Yet after a lot of hard work from the prosecution and defence, they managed to end their sentences early, simply because the prison did not keep them safe from themselves. West hadn't even got to court to be handed his sentence!
