Without Amaral where would McCanns be? Empty Without Amaral where would McCanns be?

Post by juliet 29.10.13 21:17

If Senor Amaral hadn't been so determined to put the truth out, would the McCanns be more or less untroubled by a sceptical public? Many of us might have thought we didn't believe their story...but without the Amara l book and the Mccann furious reaction would we have eventually just let it lie?

This is one of the main points of the libel trial I think, the McCanns want to prove that it is specifically Amaral that has swayed public opinion against them, particularly so since he was the policeman at the centre of the investigation.

I think that others would have written books and articles eventually (with the same theory) even if Amaral hadn't. This case was destined to become one one of the biggest unsolved mysteries ever, probably due to the McCanns worldwide media campaign, which they were advised against I believe by the PJ. As far as I know this is the first time that almost the entire files of a case have been available on line for people to read for themselves, so people feel more informed to comment on it.

Even if this case had gone relatively quiet after 6 years, the SY review and investigation were bound to reawaken interest, and the recent news that the McCanns have withheld relevant information for 5 years has put the case back under the spotlight

So they wanted to raise millions for their fund, travel the world being missing children ambassadors, heads of international campaigns....? And no-one allowed to question or criticise, let alone accuse. They reckoned without Amaral but also withouut Tony Bennett and others like him. I think they also didn't expect a huge determined army of sceptics on the internet.

Whatever the outcome for the McCanns, they have created their own exquisite hell and it shows on them. That is their punishment.

Goncalo will be vindicated.

I was on Anorak, where some of the heftiest debates took place at the time [summer/autumn 2007], long before Dr. Amaral's book a year later. And also long before I read his book, I held exactly the same suspicions. Something was rotten in the State of Denmark and it didn't take a dog to smell that ...

Millions doubt the Mccann tale. It doesn't add up in any way. But who in the police, media or political establishment has stood up to be counted except Amaral ?

I don't mean to suggest that millions didn't want the Tapas crew to be properly investigated almost from the first hour. All that timeline propaganda, the parents failing to convince anyone that they were more than mildly bothered. Kate with her carefully done hair, poses for the camera; Gerry either snarling or ducking questions or trying to shut up Kate. And that was just the very start. They have always come across as guilty of something very bad. My point is only that someone like Amaral was needed to make sure their case wasn't "disappeared" by whoever is protecting them. Tony Bennett and a few others who have spoken out and risked so much are also so much to be admired.
