To those who question our scepticism

I am constantly amazed at how many, including friends of mine, are unwilling to even speculate or doubt this story, it is infuriating and I am reminded of that famous quote ( forgotten who by) " all it takes for evil to prevail is for a few good men to do nothing" I am also reminded of all those living neat to infamous concentration camps who purported to either know nothing or who declared that it was none of their business.
My son is a prosecuting Attorney in LA and he tells me that the greatest battle that they have with potential witnesses is their general apathy even when they are reminded that their help could solve a heinous crime.
To me, another old quote" If something stinks like a rotten fish, then it almost certainly IS a rotten fish"
Well done all on here who have doggedly refused to roll over and submit, it takes tenacity and I am proud of the efforts made on here.

Its quite bizarre isn't it, the way in which people who have read nothing more than the headlines in this case, become outraged at the mere idea that the parents may have been involved. This phenomenon was perfectly illustrated by Louis Spence a few weeks ago on the Wright Stuff. His response to a Madeleine headline was completely over the top and for a few moments he was the voice of Sun readers and Lorraine Kelly, his faux outrage directed at those who do not believe the parents. It was clear he knew absolutely nothing about the case, but like many others of his ilk, rather than do the research, he opted for the populist bandwagon.

Christobell, I haven't read Kate's book. All I know about it, is what has been posted on this forum. However, if people who HAVE read it, cross-referenced it with the PJ files, I imagine they would see the discrepancies between the book and the files, if there are any.

I will say, however, what a treasure of information SY and the Portuguese police now have, to sort out this tangled mess. You Tube videos, Kate's book, Gerry's blogs. The sources are endless. If SY and the Portuguese police can't bring this case to a successful conclusion, then they are all in the wrong jobs.

I don't think British people want to believe that a doctor could do anything wrong. I am not saying that they have, just that for many people the possibility is quite simply out of the question. I appreciate that the McCann case is entirely different to that of Harold Shipman but look how blind people were to what he was doing, for years.

In addition the papers are banned from saying anything, because, as it stands, they cannot prove their case.

I started out very sympathetic to the McCanns and for a long time I didn't think they could possibly be involved, but became more sceptical as I realised there are discrepancies in the case.

People are lied to and people want to believe the lies. The appeasement period in the late 1930s in the UK is a good example of this sort of process. Opinion leaders plant false ideas (Herr Hitler is a man who can be negotiated with) and the people at the time had a strong wish for peace after the horrendous experience of WW1. So it is very difficult to get a hearing for correct interpretations of what is going on.

To be sceptical requires you have to accept difficult things e.g. our UK Police are not more efficient and effective than foreign police...our UK Police and Government withheld an important witness statement (Gaspar statement) from the Portugese investigating authorities for 3 months...we have in the UK a corrupt system of influence.
