Bryeon Hunter Mother Plea: Mother, Man Charged With First-Degree Murder Of
Toddler Plead Not Guilty
The suburban Chicago mother accused in the death of Bryeon Hunter, her 1-year-old son, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges.
Cook County prosecutors say 22-year-old Lakesha Baker and her 21-year-old boyfriend, Michael Scott, entered their "not guilty" pleas during a Thursday arraignment, ABC Chicago reports.
After the toddler was reported missing and later presumed dead, police charged the Maywood couple with his April 15 murder and suspected them of dumping his body in the Des Plaines River.
The boy's disappearance prompted an AMBER Alert after Baker told police she had been abducted and beaten before masked men kidnapped her son. The boy was presumed dead after police doubted the veracity of Baker's story.
Last week, a body was found in the Des Plaines River that authorities confided was likely that of Hunter. NBC Chicago reports results from a DNA test are still pending.
Baker is being held without bond while Scott is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail
