Re: The real reason for the SY investigation?
Strange but I couldn't find Lord Harris's blog referred to here. The only reference he makes to the case is from 13th May and it says:
No mention of 'DEATH'.The Prime Minister’s instruction to the Metropolitan Police to review the Madeleine McCann case is in breach of the draft protocol that is supposed to protect the operational independence of the police
Author: Toby Filed under: Conservative Party, Criminal justice, Culture media and sport, Europe, House of Lords, Liberal Democrats, London, Parliament, Policing, Security and counter-terrorism
Friday
May 13,2011
David Cameron has instructed the Metropolitan Police to review the case of Madeleine McCann. This is in response to an open letter in The Sun and is entirely predictable in terms of the “pulling power” of News International on Government policy.
However, his intervention drives a coach and horses through the draft protocol issued by the Home Office designed to preserve the operational independence of the Police which says:
“The operational independence of the police service, and the decisions made by its operational leadership remain reserved to the Office of Chief Constable and that Office alone.”
Whilst no-one doubts the desirability of doing what can sensibly be done to find out what has happened to Madeleine McCann, I can imagine that the senior leadership of the Metropolitan Police are not exactly happy about this. It again embroils their officers in a high profile investigation, where the chances of success are unclear, and which will divert limited investigative resources away from other matters.

Just sent a tweet to the cowardly Lord Toby Harris - What chance of a reply? Zero! LOL

Re: The real reason for the SY investigation?
What I'm hoping is that there won't be a whitewash.
The next election is 2014? Only 18 months or so.
If this was 'arranged' between the wily Murdoch and the PM (be fair - to give the IMF job to an unelected ex prime minister who as chancellor sold Britains' gold for bargain basement prices - not a good idea?) makes more sense.
Murdoch may have activated the McCann open letter, possibly via Clarrie. So Downing street was ready with the reaction, Brown got the message and went off to sulk in Scotland, the McCanns have to pretend it's exactly what they wanted and DC has a PR victory.
Public reaction to eventual publication of the hard work done by GB on behalf of the McCanns may help DC win the next election?

We can hope you are right Tigger but the shenanigans at the Leveson coverup ( in regards to the McCanns) don't give me hope. Why did Leveson & Jay accept that Clarrie NOT under oath was truthful when Pilditch, Desmond under oath were liars?

Re: The real reason for the SY investigation?
Two things:
How come Lord Toby Harris is allowed to get away with saying Madeleine is dead and GB involved in helping mccanns cover up and not sued by the mccanns?
If DC is using inside knowledge of what he knows about the mccanns case and GB complicity in it as strategy to have one over GB and in the process advance his own political ambition to remain PM then I cant see how this is a white wash.

That's what I meant. If it had been purely to keep the McCanns happy and get sympathy votes for doing the 'right thing' it would still be an eventual whitewash.
But as a tool to discredit GB and with it the Labour party - in time for the next election, very useful and most of the truth at last.

Very interesting points!
I have read on Joana morais blog some coments from someone and he/she said something like there was already a whitewash in 2007-2008, when their arguidos status was lifted, etc.. so why create a SY review... to whitewash again... It was already a job done..
When I have read this coment, I thought that the guy was right.. No need to create a review, use all that money, etc.. to do something already done : exonerate the McCanns..
What do you think guys? Does it make sense to you?
I apologize for my mistakes!

Confidence for finding Madeleine grows
Updated: 16-Apr-2012
Scotland Yard detectives reviewing the case of missing Madeleine McCann are said to be confident about solving the mystery of her disappearance and hopes are high for the formal reopening of the case.
Since their review began in May 2011, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood and his team of 36 detectives and civilians are said to have formed “excellent” working relationships in Portugal.
Speaking to the Daily Express, a source close to the investigation said: “They are working extremely hard to solve the case in the sense that they want to be able to say what they believe has happened to the child. Their attitude is that it is solvable and they are working to that end.
“The approach is very professional and all officers are committed to doing their very best to understand existing evidence while looking for new evidence. They want definitive answers and are working to get to the truth. The investigation is gathering momentum.”
Although it remains in the hands of Portuguese authorities to formally reopen the case, later this year the Met Police will be completing a comprehensive report, inclusive of a series of recommendations that is hoped to lead to the reopening of the case.
With the fifth anniversary looming of their daughter’s disappearance from Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007, Kate and Gerry McCann have expressed that they do not want to appear in any interviews, where they may say or do something which could possibly harm the Scotland Yard review at this stage.
Instead, Kate will be releasing a paperback epilogue version of her book, Madeleine, on May 10, seven says after the anniversary.
The book looks into Kate and Gerry’s renewed hope for the case and how they will never give up hope for finding their daughter.

Re: The real reason for the SY investigation?
How extraordinary - after so many interviews what on earth do the McCanns think they could say now that would harm the SY review?
Or is it more likely they are bricking themselves and don't want to incriminate themselves further?

Precisely. Yet they are happy to publish an "epilogue".

Re: The real reason for the SY investigation?
Whoever wrote the article is deliberately being vague.
The heading states "finding Madeleine", but the text states "solving the mystery of the case"
They have different meaning - a live child vs a dead child.

Hi aiyoyo, maybe the title is to draw the reader in, then the text gives more reality.
