Just thinking about the sheer number of celebrities that have come out in support of the McCanns, and wondering what they will say or do when the truth comes out.

For whatever reason the McCanns have been able to a great job of suppressing the official police report findings, so few people other than those on the forums have actually read anything official about the dogs, the blood, hire car etc. Only the propaganda that appears in the press and the bewk. However with the LI and the SY investigation it finally looks like questions are being asked and that the story they have carefully refined over the last 4.5 years is slowly unravelling.

What are all these high profile supporters going to say and do? And what about all the people that have donated to the fund? I imagine there will be a lot of requests for refunds!

marian, I suggest you print off a copy of the Gaspar statement, put it inside a Xmas card, with the message 'enjoy some Xmas reading' and send to Fiona Philips.

And add a list of websites like this one where she might get some information.

In fact the Gaspar Statement should go to all the celebs that have backed the Mccanns

I think it's safe to say that any correspondence of this sort would be dismissed as having come from vile people with mental health issues and then filed in a small square container on the floor!

I fear that when this happens, those celebrities will still not admit they were wrong, they will just become more entrenched in their beliefs because of the way our minds work. There is a great book called ' mistakes were made, but not by me' which examines this concept, and how we will go through lots of self-justification rather than admit we were wrong. In the public arena, this will be more heightened. I can imagine lots of scenarios where if the Mccanns were convicted those celebrities ( Philipps, Kelly et al) would be campaigning for their release, talking of miscarriages of justice etc etc. It takes a very unusual person in the public eye to admit they have made a mistake- even in the face of evidence.

We are all capable of believing things which we know to be untrue, and then, when we are finally proved wrong, impudently twisting the facts so as to show that we were right. Many people suddenly find the calm of a church an emotional experience when carols are being sung. I understand that David Cameron and his missus attended a church servive the other day. Was it the same service I wonder?

Personally I enjoyed the Christingle service with my children, then grandchildren, but I wasn't making a public show, just enjoying the emotional experience.

What I wonder is if the McCann's are guilty of their disappearance and did have outside help would they keep quiet about others involvement or would they take as many as they could down with them?

I personally think the latter, in fact they strike me as people who might turn it round and say we only did it because we were talked into it or forced too.

You only have to see how they drag NOTW into the diary saga despite confidentiality signing!

I can't understand why these people haven't been shouting from the rooftops and campaigning relentlessly to get the Portuguese Police to re-open the case. After all, it will only cost them the price of a stamp! Very well said Goncarlo.

All the celebrities will disassociate with them like plaque at speed of lightning if it comes to that!

And they will go down history as the MOST evil pair of doctors ever lived in the last 5 centuries or more.
There is no precedence of this scale. Not talking about just cover up of the crime but the biggest FUND SCAM ever perpetuated by a pair of doctors on the back of their missing child.

The other thing is how many celebrities really know anything about the case anyway? They have probably just heard missing girl, dodgy police and their agents saying quick jump on the bandwagon for some easy publicity.

Pershing, I agree with you, many of the supporting celebrities won't look past the relevant headline in the news which is surprising when think about it because they're the ones who should know better. But it goes for a lot of regular pro-McCann's also. Given the spin it's probably not surprising when you consider how difficult it is to actually piece the puzzle together from the evidence.

if, hopefully simply when the you- know -what hits the fan the more shallow celeb backers who have just jumped on the bandwagon without any real interest in this case will be jumping right back of it and waiting for the next famous case to latch on to.
