Sherlock Holmes on the Madeleine McCann mystery

Just a few to start us off.
...when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.
The case has, in some respects, been not entirely devoid of interest.
It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important.
You see, but you do not observe.
Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius.
Gregory: "Is there any other point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"
Holmes: "To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time."
Gregory: "The dog did nothing in the night-time."
Holmes: "That was the curious incident."
I never guess. It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.

Then there is the method of judging events according to the biblical method:
'by their fruits shall ye know them' (no idea where! it's a big book!). In other words, you may have suspicions, but watch the tree over the seasons and you will know it by the fruits it bears.
Then we have the simple deductive method of presuming a causal relationship between say - an empty birdcage, lots of feathers and a satisfied cat.
Occam's razor too, can come in handy. I would cut away pretty well the whole of the 3rd of May 07. It's got nothing to tell us, nothing that can be proved conclusively. We will never know imo.
