Three years and eight months
Hello all,
I don't claim to be anything other than a concerned observer. What does irritate me however is the apparent deadlock in this case. I'm sure there are good legal reasons for this and perhaps the judicial system in Portugal does not lend itself well to swift action.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who may have a suggestion or two as to how this process may be invigorated?

Hi Freespeech! I have followed this case from Day 1 - I'm really hoping that in 2011, someone's conscience may become too much and they will break ranks and tell all. Also hoping the McCanns lose their libel case.

Hi ShabbyTiger,
The tapasnik friends of the McCanns have misled the police and public also, and hence are accessories and facilitators of a heinous crime (imo)...... the enormous repercussions, and worldwide waste of police time and resources, the fraudulent fund, and the destruction of people's lives and livelihoods, have all been the result of the reprehensible actions of these odious doctors. I'm afraid I do not envisage any of the co-conspirators stepping forward due to a surge of conscience..... not ever!

Good post Pennylane. I tend to agree with you re any of their group coming forward, however, never say never. Who knows what could happen. Many a confession made I would imagine when the grim reaper comes a calling .
But none of us know what is happening behind the scenes, and I would stake my last rolo a good deal is

Hi pennylane - yes very true. All to save their own miserable skins, but I just can't imagine the pressure of living like that every day - waiting for the "knock on the door". Which may come at any time, especially if the case is re-opened (fingers crossed!). Plus once the Gaspar statements hit the UK press (they may come out at the forthcoming libel trial) - Payne is finished.

I agree there is much going on behind the scenes..... so much that the dodgy duo have been left gaspering for air.
I have always believed any confessions from the T7 will come solely as part of a plea bargain deal.
Tick......tock........

Hello Freespeech, excuse me snipping this from your opening post,
Quote.....I would be interested to hear from anyone who may have a suggestion or two as to how this process may be invigorated?
What has amazed me over the past 3 plus years is the collating of information from those posters who are so very good at research. Then with the release of the files what has been put together is truly amazing.
These posters imo have a great resource for any future investigations and I hope that they will have sent/or be sending their findings to the relevant authorities.

If things start to "heat up", ie the case is re-opened, then it may be in their interests to do so. The first to break ranks may be offered immunity from prosecution in exchange for their testimony?

The answers lie within the files and am convinced that the excellent research carried out by posters committed to getting to the truth will, one day, be fruitful. As for a member of the tapas bunch breaking ranks, there is no chance that will happen - they are forever bound together by their 'pact of silence'.

You would think that one of Madeleine`s grandparents would be disgusted enough to actually do something with the knowledge I`m certain they have. I know I would.

This is a tricky one, although we have to remember that apples never fall far from the tree. Both McCanns are the products of their own parents as it were. Therefore, we should not expect too much from the grandparents after noting how very little information the police managed to squeeze out of Kate and Gerald McCann before all the big guns arrived in PDL to put a complete stop to the varying degrees of vagueness and obfuscation.
One always sighs with exasperation, and feels it to have been a great pity that Gerald McCann did not leave his wife alone for just a few days longer, when he went all the way home to Rothley for a sliver of Madeleine's DNA. Had he done so, who knows how much more Kate McCann could have divulged to Paiva whilst telling him of her dream sequences?
