Madeline photo used for search Empty Madeline photo used for search

What do people think of this theory posted on FB-

Which is the most significant Maddie photo?
My vote is that it is this now mostly forgotten picture of Maddie looking around 2 years old. Those of you who have only picked up the story recently following the Netflix series may not even recognize it as it didn’t even get a mention in that lamentable regurgitation of the McCann narrative. It was infact the first picture issued by the McCanns and the one selected to be put on all the search posters handed out and put in shop windows in Luz in those first few days back in May 2007.
Why is it significant? Because it’s a very, very odd picture to issue in a search for your daughter, when we know that your camera contains 4 or 5 pictures taken that week each of which would make a much more sensible choice than one maybe a year or more out of date.
For a long time, this strange choice seemed inexplicable to me until this morning I finally realized why they had chosen this picture and not one taken that week. I’m sure some of you who looked at the case longer and deeper than I have also figured it out, but as far as I can see it’s not widely understood.
The issue of course is that the choice doesn’t seem to make sense under any of the scenarios that people have been deliberating over.
If she was really abducted/missing of course it would be insane to use an old photo rather than one taken purportedly the same day for the search. It is widely accepted that for an abduction of a small child the first hours and days are most crucial, if she is not found quickly, the chances of a happy outcome quickly shrivel towards zero.
However, even if she died before the hoax abduction melodrama was to play out, it still doesn’t seem to make sense to not give people an up to date photo, if only because it will certainly raise eyebrows once people realize that you have much more decent shots available.
The other perplexity is where did you get that photo? Why was it on your camera? The format and pixels are such that it is very unlikely to have been taken on the Canon A620 they were then using. So how did a relatively unremarkable picture of Maddie maybe a year old come to be on the SD card? And more importantly why was it selected?
So here is the explanation: Gerry McCann was not as the Tapas 9 (and only the Tapas 9) remember him to be around 10pm Thursday 3rd claim around the Tapas restaurant. He had infact taken one of the other kids, very probably Jane Tanner’s elder daughter E….., who was a similar age and similar in looks to Maddie, very probably sedated like the twins and the other kids, down towards the beach, making sure he was seen but not heard by some random tourists/locals. The idea was to validate the hoax abduction whilst having a credible alibi for the window of opportunity they would choreograph. That’s why they chose the old photo rather than something more recent. Had the tourists been able to get a good look at the toddler, they would not recognize her as NOT BEING Maddie as toddlers change quite a bit in a year or so. It would also help in terms of the various “sightings” of Maddie Monday to Thursday. What they needed was false positives so much better to use a one-year old photo that could have grown to look like almost any blonde 3-year-old than a recent photo which would show tourists and locals exactly what she looked like. I have always found it implausible that that photo was really on Kate’s SD card when they set off to Luz. I think it is more plausible, that with Maddie dead by Sunday/Monday, they asked relatives to email them the one they used prior to 3rd May.

Of course, even the best laid plans rarely go exactly according to plan. In this case, several things happened to require a fall back plan, but even that just deepened the enigma of the Case as it through up a series of contradictions and oddities which made the case even more difficult to figure out.
The first unexpected thing that happened was probably Gerry MCCann’s encounter with Jez Wilkins after he left 5a on his 9am check. This may have stopped Gerry doing a little jimmying of the shutters which would have added considerably to the plausibility of the break in theory. The second thing I believe happened was that Matthew Oldfield realized that if he testified to having seen Maddie at 9.30pm it would make him a prime suspect for her disappearance and secondly had he claimed to have seen her alive and her body had been discovered later on and shown to have died a few days before, he would be headed to jail on an obstruction of justice and conspiracy rap. He therefore came up with the bizarre: I offered to check them, went all the way there, but failed to turn my head to see Maddie and by the way didn’t really notice anything about the room. The McCanns’ could never scold him for this massive failure to help protect their daughter, because he was of course going out on a huge limb to help them in any case. Nor could Matthew mutter a word of remorse for letting down his friends with such tragic consequences for the same reason. The next piece of bad luck was that despite all the publicity the Smith’s initially failed to come forward with their sighting. This most have come as a big disappointment to Gerry and his cronies as it would have validated Kate’s abduction theory and pointed to the Sea as where Maddy had been taken off to. This of course was a big part of the McCann’s efforts to encourage people to come forward with any sightings etc. Gerry even made a special effort to encourage IRISH tourists to come forward, going on the Irish version of crime watch and claiming that there were a lot of Irish in Luz. Irish less 8% of British Isles population and only around 1% of EU population so are unlikely to be more than say 4% of total Luz tourists so why all the effort to get Irish tourists to come forward with any sightings??? The answer of course is that Gerry knows that an Irish family saw Smithman as he was Smithman and heard their accent when they asked if she asleep.
I think it’s only once MO had chickened out and the Irish family had not come forward that Jane Tanner decided to take it on to her own head to fabricate Tannerman. At first the character was laughably ambiguous but notorious Jane Tanner came to morph the figure first towards Robert Morat (Did they know Morat before, is he part of the team, did they believe the charges against him would come to nothing)??? Later she started to elaborate the clothes (Gerry /Smithman) had been wearing. Sadly for the McCanns, Mr Smith was apparently only triggered to call the police once he saw Gerry returning to the UK carrying his son , claiming he was 60% sure that the person he saw was Gerry!!!! This of course was not the message that Gerry had been hoping for and the Team McCann propaganda machine went into overdrive to downplay Smith’s sighting so that Tannerman continued to be promoted as the likely abductor and Smithman downplayed. An interesting aspect of the media manipulation was the depiction in the TV reenactment of the Smith sighting of the “Abductor” holding “Maddie” in the dead child position described by Jane Tanner much to the chagrin of Mr Smith who apparently insisted he saw the man holding the kid in the sleeping child (over the shoulder position). Jane Tanner had of course come up with the “dead child” position because she was stitching together various semi true facts including the position that she herself carried Maddie’s dead body most probably when it was being moved around 5a.

I think it's a random collection of issues that have been discussed over and over again here on CMOMM and no doubt elsewhere on the net.

Where we (CMOMM) are today is a result of carefully unraveling the many facets of this mystery, sorting the wheat from the chaff so to speak. There's a ton of chaff in this theory.

My suggestion - leave it where it belongs, on Facebook!

NB: As regards the provenance of the outdated photograph issued to the Portuguese police, to assist their investigation..

Friday 4th May 2007

By this time our friend Jon Corner, a creative director in media production in Liverpool, was circulating photographs and video footage of Madeleine to the police, Interpol and broadcasting and newspaper news desks. This was in accordance with the standard advice of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the US, which advocates getting an image of a missing child into the public domain as soon as possible.

Jon Corner had opened up the file transfer protocol he’d set up on 4 May to circulate Madeleine’s image to family, friends and other supporters. No, I didn’t know what one of those was, either: basically, it provided access via a password to a repository for photographs and other material, allowing people to share their resources. Helpers could post their material on a dedicated server via the FTP and use that supplied by others to create flyers, posters and so on. The press already had the password, which gave them access to pictures and video footage.

It is apparent that the McCanns friend Jon Corner, had a portfolio of Madeleine images readily available on Friday 4th May.

Important question is .... why!
