MADELEINE McCann’s parents have failed in their latest battle to silence an ex-Portuguese cop over claims they faked their daughter’s kidnapping to cover up her death.

Pals of Kate and Gerry have said Goncalo Amaral “has won once and for all” because they don’t have the “time, energy or funding” to take him to the highest court in the land

The parents have still taken no action to challenge the former cop in the highest court in the land despite vowing three months ago to continue the fight after a “terrible” ruling against them.

Mr Amaral claimed in a TV documentary and his bestselling 2008 book that the parents had killed Maddie and faked her kidnapping after she vanished in Praia da Luz in 2007 – but there is no truth in the claims.

A source close to the couple believe the lack of action by Maddie’s parents and their legal team indicates “the end of the road” in a bitter eight year fight against their tormentor.

The family pal said: “Realistically a European Court appeal was never going to succeed plus it would be too expensive to launch. It seems Mr Amaral, regrettably, has won once and for all. The fight is finally over.

“It means he can continue to spout his malicious lies about Kate and Gerry being involved in a cover up of their daughter’s death, which is almost laughable if it wasn’t so hurtful and damaging in the hunt for Madeleine.

“Kate and Gerry have always said they’ll keep no stone unturned in the global search and that’s what they want to concentrate on. I don’t think they have the time, energy or funding to lodge yet another appeal.”

The McCanns from Rothley, Leics, were left angry and disappointed after Portugal’s top court threw out their libel claim against Mr Amaral at the end of January.

The long-suffering couple pledged to take him to the European Court of Human Rights but have failed to do so.

Ex GP Kate, who has recently taken up a new medical job, said in an interview to mark the milestone 10th anniversary of Maddie’s disappearance in May that Mr Amaral’s poisonous words had been “very upsetting and incomprehensible.”

A trio of Supreme Court judges ruled that Mr Amaral’s claims in his book were protected by freedom of expression laws and also that the McCanns’ were not “formally in the clear” over Maddie’s disappearance.

The Policia Judiciaria inspector led the initial bungled hunt for Maddie but was later pulled off the case after criticising British police assistance.

In his once banned book “The Truth of the Lie”, he claimed Maddie accidentally died in an accident at the holiday flat or by being given an overdose of sedatives.

Maddie’s parents fiercely denied his allegations and accused described Mr Amaral as a self obsessed, manipulative money-grabber

Three-year-old Maddie vanished from a holiday apartment in Portugal’s Praia da Luz in May 2007 while her parents were dining in a nearby tapas bar with pals.

Speaking ahead of the tenth anniversary in May, defiant Kate said her hope of finding missing daughter Madeleine alive will never fade – as she vowed to still buy her a present for her 14th birthday.

Kate and Gerry’s spokesman Clarence Mitchell today declined to comment on their failure to challenge Mr Amaral in the European Court, saying: “Anything on the legal side is up to their Portuguese lawyer to comment on.”

Should never have been a fight..it was all for show on their side,long suffering couple... oh please... I see Khandola of the Sun is still doing their bidding!? Anyhow what's this with no funding? Better check that new "special" account and reserves so they can pay Amaral what they owe him...Or put Orchard House on the market eh? Utter disgrace what these people have been allowed to do, utter and diabolical disgrace!

It is a disgrace.  They are left with little money, or so they say, money that should have been used to "Leave No Stone Unturned"

They did once say that they would sell their home to search, I don't think they ever will but never say never.

At the end of day they got nowhere and through all this, we, the public, were reminded that they have not been cleared.

Many thought that the McCann's wouldn't take their case to the ECHR, the public have had enough!

As for Kadohla's spats against Mr Amaral, I think it's high time she started to show some journalistic skills because no matter what she says, Mr. Amaral has WON!  

What is the purpose of this latest article?  Surely It cannot be money, the McCanns are surrounded by Millionaire friends & Missing People supporters. 

Are the McCanns playing the sympathy card?  Hoping for donations? or just making excuses for not fighting back?  Where would they take their case anyway? 

The high courts ruled that they were not formally cleared, goodness knows what would come out if they kept this going.

I also not the presence of the old line that appears in every McCann related news article as if it were fact.

Rocky well and truly won.    Well done to him.   Maybe now they will pay up what they owe him.
Time for him to be able to move on and provide for his family after the years that they have all had to go without when Mr and Mrs lived it up going to galas, the races and enjoying the high life with their "in" pals.  Fat lot of good their "in" pals did them.

One would have thought that their spokesperson would have put out a press statement, fancy having to read about it in the daily mail through R Tracy.  Bit of a come down from the "glory days" when our Mitch seemed to have the presss at the ready.   ha ha ha.

R Tracy let's the public know that Mrs has a medical job.  They don't seem too keen to let on what the medical job is.  Was a time when lots of private info was put into the public domain including the state of their sex life.

Oh how times change.

They once loved the courts taking action against Rocky, action against Tony, threatening anyone who dared question.

Since when has the truth concerning the disappearance of a three year old child been a "sick slur" [sic] Ms Kandohla?

The parents don't have the 'time, energy or funding' to take him to the highest court in the land?  Roughly translated = they haven't got a case to present - or simplistically, haven't got a leg to stand on and they know it !!!

Dear Ms Kandohla, time you retired from commenting on the McCanns - you've made an absolute ass of yourself - does your paymaster generale approve of your tiresome support of two primary suspects?

Something is very amiss here - could it be 'dial M for m m m Murdoch'?

We have a saying here -"It's a long road that doesn't have a turning". The end of the road for the McCanns vicious persecution of the man who sought truth and justice for their daughter (YIPPEE) but not the end!!! This ain't going away you know. They're all out of energy to fight on aw!- newsflash McCanns - there are many who still have the energy and desire to uncover the truth and see justice done. Don't get those laurels out to rest on just yet.

Where are all the rich backers?  Why aren't they footing the bill for any appeal?

When will R Tracy, R Mitch or any other "pal" tell us when they are going to cough up what they owe?

I wonder if we will hear soon whether Rocky intends to sue them?   I hope we get some news from Portugal about it all soon.
