Millions of Brits are reading “Maddie: The Truth of the Lie” online

Just as the parents of Madeleine McCann are reported to be taking their legal dispute with former PJ detective Gonçalo Amaral to Portugal’s Supreme Court, the Resident has learnt that millions of Brits have been reading the book at the heart of the fight by accessing it online.

Since “Maddie: The Truth of the Lie” was once again cleared for sale following a ruling by the Appeal Court in Lisbon last month (click here), over two million one hundred and thirty eight thousand people have visited the Complete Mystery of Madeleine McCann forum - the site that carries a translation of the book into English.

Moderators say that following the ruling by three Lisbon judges that Amaral was within his right to self expression in publishing his thesis about what may have happened to Madeleine, visits to the site have been exceeding 200,000 - 300,000 a day.

In all, over 11 million people have viewed “Maddie: The Truth of the Lie” - while the forum claims its global number of visits now stand at over 81 million.

What all this means in terms of a legal fight that is concentrated on outlawing the book is unclear.

It is not banned in any country of the world, and even though the McCanns are apparently intent on suing any publisher who takes it on for the UK market (click here), it appears to have been read by well over 11 million English-speakers.

This news comes in a week when the British press has suddenly opened the floodgates to celebrity criticism of the McCann parents.

Sharon Osbourne, the outspoken media personality and wife of heavy-metal singer-songwriter Ozzy Osbourne, labelled the couple “insane” to have left their children unattended while on the fateful family holiday to Praia da Luz nine years ago, while former model Katie Price, speaking on the Loose Women chat show, backed her comments saying the couple shouldn’t have gone on holiday if they weren’t prepared to take their children out with them.

Osbourne’s remarks were labelled “ill informed” and “ignorant” by a friend of the McCanns, but the retort got nothing like the same kind of media coverage.

Meantime, blogs in Portugal following the McCanns legal fight have stressed that the couple’s appeal to the Supreme Court is by no means a ‘done deal’.

The “next step” will be to find out if the court accepts it. This decision is unlikely to be taken before the end of June, reports Textusa (one of the blogs most active for what it calls “the right to exercise the duty of being a citizen), with “expected notification around a week later”.

“If there are no technical mistakes” - Textusa explains that the appeal has to follow certain rules - Amaral will then have his own time-scale to submit counter-arguments, all of which will take the case well past the judicial holidays in August.

“We don’t see a decision from the Supreme Justice Court on this case before Christmas, and even then we’re being optimistic”, says the blog that writes all its posts in English.

Also writing in English for the benefit of non-Portuguese visitors, the Projecto Justiça Gonçalo Amaral blogsite has revealed that contributions raised largely from Brits last year (click here) will cover Amaral’s latest call to defend what he maintains is an issue of the right to freedom of expression.

Says the blog: We remain confident, as always, that Justice will be served and Freedom of Speech, of Opinion and of Information will prevail.

I'm posting this article written by Natasha Donn but it will need to be amended as the information she's posted about this forum isn't quite right and she said she'll amend it (when she gets back from the pub!) 

But, basically, this forum has not attracted 81 million views on its own - it is the total views that this forum plus my four blogs that have attracted over 81 million views as shown on this link https://plus.google.com/109579544709177381612/plusones  It seems to update twice a day.

And it is the total of all blogs and this forum that is attracting 200-300 thousand views per day. This month there has been more than 2 million views in total.

Truth of the Lie blog has had over 11 million views since I created it for AnnaEsse. There are other sites, including the original translation by AnnaEsse, and they will also have attracted many views.

More like 'he who laughs last laughs longest' and the laughter is beginning to be heard.

And there's no way Kate and Gerry can force the public to "un-read" what they have read, much as they'd like to, I'm sure.

Normally I'm quite complementary about Natasha Donn's reports from Portugal but here I'm rather surprised that she quotes 'Textusa' as a leading authority - not someone I would rely on as an authoritative source of information relative to the Madeleine McCann case.  In addition statistics are generally meaningless, they have no true value, just an indication of a trend.

If Textusa has direct access to the facts then I apologies unreservedly.

The McCanns just do not seem to understand that things have moved on from the heady days of May 2007.  Now they cannot just expect to read one of their pronouncements from a script, and have everyone automatically believe their story.  People are questioning and thinking a whole lot more, and most are coming to the conclusion that something just does not add up.  Now the ubiquitous "family friend" denounces Sharon Osbourne as "ignorant and ill-informed" and the world rushes to defend Shazza, and not Kate.  Their fairy tale is now well past it's sell-by date, the public are rejecting it in their droves, and they don't even realise it.  Or are too narcissistic and/or stupid to understand and grasp it.

The article says that Mr. & Mrs. have threatened to sue any publisher who threatens to publish in UK.

Is there not one publisher who is prepared to publish and see if they really will sue?

UK citizens are Hacked Off being told what they can and can't read, what they can and cannot say.

I don't think they are making any friends with all this talk of suing and if they lose this fight with Rocky I believe people with very long memories will waste no time in publishing what they really think.

I think they've dug such a deep hole for themselves they can't climb out.  At least not without losing face and that would be very much like an admission of guilt in the eyes of the world.

There's something of the David Walliams about Gerry McCann when he's got a microphone and an audience.

He also says "...the judiciary have said their is no evidence that Madeleine is dead and there is no evidence to implicate us in her death..."

They do "slip" up with the truth which they think is disguised in their lies in my opinion... Hence the title which is a direct quote from KM "We want people to believe that Madeleine is alive".
This is important because they think that there is a "good chance" she is still alive. This has been their stance along with the "abduction" theory from day one no matter what 'evidence' or 'intelligence' the investigation has brought to the fore. 

Only their 'theory' will do! 

Some could argue it's because they are desperate to get Madeleine back and hopeful that no harm has come to her? How they could devise that from being apparently taken by a "paedophile' as they suggested very early on. 
To now some 'bungling burglars' of also being "credible" and yet not "shout from the rooftops",when blood and cadaver scent was detected by the dogs, in need of more information in case 'harm' has come to Madeleine? 
No, they simply dismissed it as 'unreliable'?

They give themselves away on so many counts!

No 'missing alive child', no 'fund'? 

The pretence is glaringly obvious, yet they cannot stop! 
Why?
I believe because if they set the "truth" free that would implicate another, one who perhaps is well-known; they are "protected" only as long as the need is to protect the "significant" other(s)?

Hence the tiresome, costly and prolonged "charade" 
But do I believe that they are "dispensable" if and when the time comes? Yes, yes I do.
Maybe that is when there will be justice for Madeleine.

I think they do speak in code. I've often wondered whether the 'No stone unturned' motto might be their smug private little joke because they hid poor Madeleine under a big stone somewhere.

Like the grey &  cold one Kate mentions in her book?

It has troubled me from  day one in the first appeal they did where Kate says a few words to the person who is with Madeleine and Gerry nudges her shoulder (whilst looking rather annoyed as if she has gone off script?) and she changes it to "been" with Madeleine !?!? 
Wouldn't the correct term to use be "taken" Madeleine?

1. Introduction

As everyone knows Mr Amaral has challenged the UK to do a reconstruction of the evening/night of May 3 2007 in Praia da Luz (article from the Express on May 1 2016 by James Murray “We must reconstruct Maddie’s fateful night”).

We know an attempt was made to do a reconstruction in March 2008 by Mr Paulo Rebelo but due to the strange unavailability shown by some of the T7 it never went ahead.

Very strange how this group of friends came to the conclusion that the effort proposed by the rightful and legitimate authorities responsible for the investigation was useless to help find out what had happened to Maddie and so put whatever they had to do at the time before the interests of their friends McCanns.

After all, the reconstruction was supposed to help the McCanns clarify what had happened to their daughter and definitely help clear up all the suspicions that were hanging over them at the time but their friends apparently didn’t care less.

One would even be tempted to say that such friends only took such a position because they already knew what had happened to Maddie and so knew that participating in such an exercise would only serve the interests of the truth and not theirs.
