What Uncle Brian said
I've just been reading a new thread called McCann Interview Transcripts and came across this quote from Uncle Brian when he was interviewed just after Madeleine went missing. He was asked about the fund and this was part of his reply 'We've just set up a mechanism for people who said they wanted to do something and contribute, so that the money can be used, errr... for all sorts of reasons but probably mainly for legal expenditure.'
Now why would he say 'mainly for for legal expenditure' and not 'mainly to help find Madeleine'?

Re: What Uncle Brian said
Because the McCanns knew damn well they'd need a "fighting fund" and lawyered up with one of the most expensive .... Find Madeleine was /is a guise for fund the family and their bogus "never ever found a missing child" detectives?!?!?!?!?!?
Uncle Brian let the cat out of the bag in my opinion....

Re: What Uncle Brian said
By the same token one could question why so many legal pundits were commissioned, some who arrived in Portugal within hour/days of Madeleine's alleged disappearance.Kathian1997 wrote:I've just been reading a new thread called McCann Interview Transcripts and came across this quote from Uncle Brian when he was interviewed just after Madeleine went missing. You suspect your child has been abducted, most likely by a peadophile or child trafficking syndicate, the Portuguese police are on the case so to speak - what do you need lawyers for?
You are essentially taking money from the innocent public to help with 'the search' for your precious little daughter - what do you need lawyers for?
You are entirely innocent of any wrongdoing - what do you need lawyers for?

Re: What Uncle Brian said
This was published by the BBC News on 12th September 2007 just three days after the McCanns left Portugal having been made arguidos. The same period of time that saw the double glazing magnate, Brian Kennedy, revealed as their mystery benefactor. To coin a phrase - do the maths!
Madeleine's Fund statement in full
The board of Madeleine's Fund: Leaving No Stone Unturned Limited issued a statement on Wednesday on its decision not to use the funds to pay for Madeleine McCann's parents' legal costs.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] The fund would like to thank everyone for their kindness, support and generosity.
Madeleine's Fund was set up to find Madeleine, support the family and bring the abductor or abductors to justice, and subject to that to help other missing children.
With the sudden dramatic and unexpected turn of events at the weekend the directors had to consider whether legal defence costs could be paid for by the fund.
The board has taken advice from (solicitors) Bates Wells & Braithwaite London LLP and Christopher McCall QC.
The board has been advised that payment of Gerry and Kate's legal defence costs would be legally permissible subject to conditions about repayment in the event of a guilty conviction.
The directors of the fund discussed this today.
The two family directors, Brian Kennedy and John McCann, withdrew from the meeting when the decision was made. I chaired the meeting.
The fund directors realise that there is not only a legal answer and recognise the spirit which underlies the generous donations to Madeleine's Fund, which it is the directors' responsibility to steer.
For this reason the fund directors have decided not to pay for Gerry and Kate's legal defence costs.
We stress that Gerry and Kate have not asked for these costs to be paid.
However, people have already called in offering their financial support.
Any such fund to pay legal defence costs would have to be separately set up and administered.
At the heart of this campaign and fund is a little girl confused, lonely and in need of her parents.
This fund's money will be focused on finding that little girl and leaving no stone unturned. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: What Uncle Brian said
I just want to say thank you for the bit I've highlighted in red - that you read a quote from a reference thread and took the initiative to start a new thread to ask a question about it rather than turn the reference thread into a discussion.Kathian1997 wrote:I've just been reading a new thread called McCann Interview Transcripts and came across this quote from Uncle Brian when he was interviewed just after Madeleine went missing. Many thanks. You did the right thing!

Re: What Uncle Brian said
Thank you. I wasn't sure if I could start a discussion on that thread as I'm quite new on here and I didn't want to get into trouble so I took it on myself to start this new thread. At least I got something right! Yaaayyy!
