I suspect that you are right.  And sadly, if that is indeed the case, then it is highly suggestive that even the Faro PJ are not actively pursuing them in this new reopened case.  For if they truly had discovered 'new' evidence against them (sufficient to permit the case to be reopened), then making them arguido and presenting that evidence to them would seem a logical step.

The complete lack of any movement or information from Faro perhaps suggests that the case was actually reopened purely as a precaution in case SY had actually discovered anything of value.  As it turns out they have not, and so the Faro team appear to have gone back into hibernation - and who can blame them.

Yes, it could be a possibility that it was re-opened in the hope SY did actually discover something of value - but re-opening it could also serve another  purpose ?
If nothing is found by SY and the PJ dont have enough evidence for a water tight case,  they could then shelve the case again - only this time when the files are released there may be some incriminating evidence ( may have been held back last time ) involving the Mccann's or friends which would make SY look like the keystone cops ?  Just a thought and my own opinion

I see no reason to suppose that the PJ's investigation has 'gone back into hibernation' and, on the basis of what occurred last time, I can see no useful purpose being served by the McCanns again being made persons of interest and every purpose being served in waiting until such time as they can be formally charged as suspects in the disappearance of their eldest daughter.

Just thinking out loud again, - I'ts possible SY talk in terms of weeks and months because it does not know how long, or if, and when, the PJ will shelve this case again ?
It may be that SY are afraid to wind this case down with  " sorry we did our best "   only to have the PJ release the files which may contain very damming evidence that SY should have detected during its three year "review" ?       What would AR say then ?   What a revelation moment ?

'assurances' from whom?

I suspect this information came from either the UK source or his opposite number in Portugal and I find it significant that, despite such assurances having allegedly been given, the McCanns do not seem capable of visiting Portugal unless they are accompained by their UK criminal lawyer and are met on arrival by his Portuguese counterpart.

Well IF Gerry is to go to Portugal, on Monday, he'd better 'dig out' a GQWB, or 'borrow' one of Kate's, to wear and be photographed to be wearing, outside of the courtroom!
Otherwise people might well start to think he dosen't 'support the campaign' to find his 'missing' daughter!

FIFTEEN (15) days AFTER Madeleine COULD have been 'declared, sadly dead'
NO GQWB!

They have told so many 'lies' who's to say they have NOT, behind closed doors, asked for Madeleine and applied for her, to be declared dead?

Has Mr McCann 'finally given up the pretence/ghost'?
No wearing of GQWB?

(btw: In the first photo, who looks more 'wooden', Gerry or the tree?)

AND before the 'shills' start screaming 'photoshopped' they'd better check these:

exactly, who would give out such an assurance. It sounds to me like a throwaway bit of pink nonsense used to give an impression to the british general public. If it's stated in the paper that such assurances have been given, most people will beleive this to be the case.

I wonder if a paedophile/possible burglator who the elite MET police 'suspected' would also be given an 'assurance' that he could come and go as he likes, even to leaving the country, if he wished?

JS,SH IW and CS were 'probably' given 'assurances' that THEY wouldn't be 'arrested', but not a 'run of the mill' crim, imo.

Anyway, how can someone be given an assurance, to come and go, as they like, IF the police, have garnered 'evidence' they don't know about, since an 'assurance'?

It is pure Mitchell nonsense.
Sometimes during the investigation of a case you start with not enough to arrest, you may be just chatting informally to someone who you may not even think is a significant witness,
and then very suddenly that changes, and you make the arrest.
For example you get a phone call from the scenes of crime dept, about a fingerprint, and suddenly the whole thing changes, and then it's
"Bring himian and bring his grandmother in. . "

We know because we have read and understood the archiving / shelving report that nothing further could be done at that stage,
and that because the offence of Child abandonment in Portuguese law requires an element of malice or intent to cause harm, and that element was not proved sufficiently,
and that for all those reasons the case could not proceed further, but should be "shelved" that is set aside FOR THE MOMENT, until other evidence should be produced or revealed.

But nothing prevents either SY or the PJ picking it all up again if evidence comes to light, the scenes of crime department phone, the forensic science lab send the report,
or a significant and credible and substantial witness signs a statement

Agreed. And their recent statement about the dig reinforcing their belief that Maddie is still alive will be front and centre during their closing statement.  You can expect today's statement in full, along with the old favourite about there being "no evidence that she has come to any harm" being trotted out also.  As far as they are concerned, the recent SY activity strengthens their libel case - even if for the rest of the world it is clear that SY do not for a second believe she is alive.  Gerry will be positively looking forward to his day in court.  He for sure will be there.

Is there some significance to two cannabis plants/a man's sock/animal bones? Does it point, even in a very obtuse or roundabout way to places/people/events/times that might be significant to 'unlocking the key'.

If the police knew bones where animal, why would they take them?   It's the Daily Mail and others that seem to be sugessting all the police found was 'pet bones' and an old sock etc.  and I don't think they (or Amaral) have access to the lab reports on the objects that were found and sent off by SY, so how would they know?

Martin Geissler of ITV said he saw 'many' pieces of evidence being collected.

Madeleine McCann's parents say search reinforces 'hope'

''The parents of missing Madeleine McCann say the fact that recent searches found no trace of their daughter reinforces their belief she could still be alive.
Kate and Gerry McCann said they were "very pleased" at the searches over the last 10 days in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
Scotland Yard said there was still a "substantial amount of work" still to do in the investigation after three areas of land were searched.
Madeleine was three when she went missing in the Algarve resort in 2007.
Scotland Yard has said the searches, carried out with Portuguese officers and covering approximately 60,000 square metres, were the "first phase of this major investigation".
In a statement released through their spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, Mr and Mrs McCann said: "We are very pleased that significant activity has taken place in Praia da Luz over the last 10 days with police officers and support teams from the UK working closely with the Policia Judiciaria and the Guarda Nacional Republicana.''

Isn't there a conflict here?

Met officers under fire for failed Madeleine searches
Times, The (London, England) - Thursday, June 12, 2014
Author: David Brown
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/uk/article4116348.ece

Scotland Yard admitted last night that officers investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann had failed to find any evidence relating to her during searches of three Algarve sites.

Officers arrived at the final site yesterday on the outskirts of Praia da Luz to be greeted with graffiti criticising the "stupid" English police.

The failure to find any evidence in the search sites will raise questions about the £5 million British investigation ordered by David Cameron after the Portuguese police closed the case.

Officers searched wasteland close to the Ocean Club resort where Madeleine disappeared in May 2007 and two sites to the west of the town.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "At this time no evidence relating to Madeleine McCann has been identified.

"However it has given us an essential understanding of the activity on - and people that have used - this piece of land."

A spokesman for Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, from Rothley, Leicestershire, said: "In the absence of any evidence to the contrary, Kate and Gerry continue to believe that Madeleine is still alive" Search teams used sniffer dogs and ground-penetrating radar to examine 60,000 square metres of land including all utilities, drainage channels and derelict buildings.

Scotland Yard has asked the Portuguese authorities to speak to three "people of interest", believed to be former workers at the Ocean Club. They have been told that they will be allowed to sit in during the interviews but cannot intervene.

Yes, I agree too, but it wont be so easy for them to push their initial arguements about Mr Amaral's book hindering the search for an alive child ...

The recent diggings by SY were not because it was expecting to find an unharmed child so has SY also hindered the Mccann's search ?   What happens now if the Mccann's continue to claim she could be alive ?  Do SY get sued as well ?

i am sure gerry will be back for the trial. he is convinced of his position, and arguably has cornered himself from day one when he shouted abductor.

The latest digs have shown up the marmite entrenched views - those who believe they did and those that don't.

Evidence (court evidence) is all circumstantial. sy/pj need concrete evidence of the crime. The most amusing part of the latest investigation is that the mccanns are not in the loop with SY. Look at their last three utterances - all follow a PY statement. they are playing a game of repeating SY and adding a little to try to show they are in on the investigation/searches. SY have obviously told them as they have told us they will not be giving a running commentary on the progress of the investigation. the mccanns like us are playing catch up.

My god - if this case is not solved one way or another we will have that man popping up year after year to say the same thing over and over again     There is no evidence she has come to any harm"

Kate and Gerry Mccann are well aware imo, that this is their freedom ticket - even the fund stays safely in their hands as long as the " no evidence she has come to any harm "  is pushed down everyones throats at every given opportunity !

The British investigators are seeking information about a man who sneaked into bedrooms to assault young girls holidaying with their families on the Algarve on at least 12 occasions. Caption:  Insulting graffiti greeted British police at their final search site in Praia da Luz

My god - if this case is not solved one way or another we will have that man popping up year after year to say the same thing over and over again     There is no evidence she has come to any harm"

Kate and Gerry Mccann are well aware imo, that this is their freedom ticket - even the fund stays safely in their hands as long as the " no evidence she has come to any harm "  is pushed down everyones throats at every given opportunity !
no body - no evidence - no conviction. gerry is no fool.

  • Detectives have finished eight-day search around Praia da Luz, Portugal
  • Kate and Gerry McCann say they still believe their child could still be alive
  • 'We're encouraged that despite the intensive searches, no trace of Madeleine has been found and this reinforces our belief she could still be alive'

Madeleine McCann's parents said today their belief she could be alive has been 'reinforced' after police failed to find any clues during an eight-day search operation in Portugal.
Kate and Gerry McCann said they were 'very pleased' forensic searches had taken place in Praia da Luz and it was 'gratifying' to know more will happen over the coming months.
It comes as the couple will return to Portugal on Monday to deliver statements to the libel trial of former Portuguese police chief Goncalo Amaral, who the McCanns are suing over claims in his book The Truth Of The Lie.

Investigation: British police sifting through soil on an area of wasteland during a search for Madeleine McCann
Amaral claims in his book that the McCann's faked their daughter's abduction to cover up her death in their holiday apartment.
Spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: 'I can confirm that Kate and Gerry are planning to attend court in Lisbon on Monday when they will give their personal statements having successfully appealed to do so.'

Scotland Yard yesterday abandoned their search of land close to where Madeleine vanished in 2007, but said the multi-million-pound inquiry will soon move into a new phase after negotiations with the Portuguese authorities.

Mr and Mrs McCann said in a statement today: 'We are very pleased that significant activity has taken place in Praia da Luz over the last 10 days.

'We are further encouraged that despite the intensive searches, no trace of Madeleine has been found and this reinforces our belief that she could still be alive.

'As parents of a missing child, we have always wanted all reasonable lines of inquiry to be followed and it is gratifying to know that a substantial amount of work will take place over the coming months with the close co-operation of the British and Portuguese authorities.

Specialist officers: A sniffer dog handler from South Wales police and his springer spaniel were flown in to Portugal to help with the search
'We would like to thank all those involved for their efforts and the members of the public who have come forward with information.'

Senior officers said the searches were the ‘first phase’ of the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine, who was three when she went missing in Praia da Luz in May 2007, and more activity will ‘commence shortly’.
This could include the arrest of a handful of suspects who detectives suspect may be able to cast fresh light on the notorious case.
The announcement came just hours after graffiti was daubed in large orange letters on a brick wall opposite one of the search areas.
Written in Portuguese, the misspelled message translated as: ‘Maddie’s parents killed her. English police are stupid!’
The attack was the latest sign of anger among locals at the high-profile police inquiry, which is taking place as the annual tourist season takes off.

New phase: Police also inspected sewers under wasteland minutes from where Madeleine was last seen
Business owners have been joking that the police operation is a new tourist attraction, with many visitors asking for directions to the latest search site.
Over the past eight days, officers have undertaken the biggest search undertaken overseas by a team of British police.
They have searched to the ‘highest possible standards’ an area of scrubland equal in size to around nine football pitches.
This included checking water pipes, drainage channels and derelict buildings around the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz on the Algarve.
Police also searched a horseshoe-shaped piece of waste ground that was specifically identified as an area of interest by the latest inquiry.
A Met spokesman said 41 ‘ground anomalies’ – areas where the earth had been disturbed – were discovered by aerial surveys and ground-penetrating radar equipment.

These sites, which included three outside the original area, were then painstakingly checked by search teams. The spokesman added: ‘At this time no evidence relating to Madeleine McCann has been identified.
‘However it has given us an essential understanding of the activity on – and people that have used – this piece of land.
‘This was the first phase of this major investigation, which has been agreed with the Portuguese following the four International Letters of Request submitted to date. More activity has been agreed and we expect that to commence shortly.
‘In addition, further requests are being compiled and will be submitted in due course.’

From above: An aerial image shows the ground where police first started digging in the Madeleine McCann investigation yards from the apartment where she was last seen
The Met launched a fresh investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance in 2011, codenamed Operation Grange.
Senior officers stress that the operation in Portugal mirrors what would take place in Britain for a murder or high-risk missing person inquiry. They say there is still a ‘substantial amount of work’ to be done in the coming weeks and months.
Police said the searches  covered ‘just the one hypothesis’ that Madeleine was killed and buried locally. There are many others.
The dawn-to-dusk searches have involved teams of officers armed with pickaxes, spades and specialist search dogs.
Accompanied by Portuguese officers, they examined three sites and removed several items for further analysis.
One shopkeeper was sceptical over whether the searches would bring police any close to finding Madeleine. ‘People keep coming in asking what’s going on and where,’ he said. ‘It seems to be the new tourist attraction.
‘It is a beautiful resort and shouldn’t be spoiled by searches for a girl who disappeared a long time ago and will probably never be found.’
