Gonçalo Amaral: “The most important thing is to reopen the process”

What is happening “is propaganda”, given that “nobody is looking for the little girl, neither here nor there (in England)”.
The PI's are
These words are from former PJ inspector Gonçalo Amaral, who sees the criticism from the McCann couple and from the English press against the Portuguese investigation as pure “folklore”.
“These sightings, that are being talked about, almost always came from the English police, if they are so important, as some people are saying now, why weren’t they investigated by the Scotland Yard? After all, the little girl is a British citizen”, the author of the book “The Truth of the Lie”, based on the case of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann in the Algarve, in 2007, recalls.
how does he know where they come from. He should never have access to those files.
“The important things is not going around talking about sightings, saying that the little girl was seen here and there, the important thing is to reopen the process. The truth is that after I left Portimão, nothing more was done, the process was archived by the Public Ministry half way through, many diligences remained to be carried out, and that is what not allows for all sort of speculation”, the former inspector told 24horas.
He has just dropped Pavia his friend in it there
“The process was possibly archived half way through because the State was afraid of (the McCanns’) demands for compensation. That fear was also transmitted to us by our colleagues, the English policemen, who used to say that it was a very common thing in England”, Gonçalo Amaral recalled.
Thats just rubbish. You know thats not the case dont you Jill?
The McCanns’ lawyer, Isabel Duarte, has a very different opinion about the evolution of the Maddie case. For her, “it is shocking and sad” that the leads that are now being publicly revealed “were not handed over to the parents”. The revelation of that information is also criticised by Isabel Duarte, because “it puts the little girl’s safety at risk”.

It's interesting that GA is referring to the UK police a lot more in his statements.
Maybe they will make a return statement soon.
Maybe they will make a return statement soon.

They wouldn't answer questions, they wouldn't take part in the official reconstruction although they preferred to do their own televised version. Not even Maddie's grandparents requested the investigation remain open.
That's a complete nonsense and you know it. They complied and made themselves available for months, this is all well documented stuff. However on being informed that the police thought their daughter dead (without evidence) and them involved (again without evidence), Kate refused to answer questions under arguido status as was her right that she had answered before and that were frankly mental questions designed to do nothing to help her child.
That's it, one two hour refusal in extremely trying circumstances compared to months of being there available for anything.
Right.
Well, if Maddie were my child I would do everything to help the investigation. Everything.
But not defend yourself from false accusations or stop liars making money selling books asserting your child is dead. You would just shrug that off?

Loads of times, just not from Maddie's parents.

but at the point you realised that the police were focused on you, and were not looking for your child, and were not looking for the person who took her....isn't there a point where you would know there was nothing you could do or say to them that would make them look for her?

And what if the police locked you up wrongly? how would you find your child then? who would be looking for her if the police think you harmed her and you had your liberty taken away?

You don't think that the general public thinking you are a murderer or at the very least hiding your childs body would have any effect on the search or in fact your own safety and that of the rest of your family?

The McCanns weren't locked up, they just fled Portugal.

If not renewing their rented accmodation months earlier and planning to leave, in fact extending their stay so they could be questioned again can be called fleeing, then you might have a point.

Its what could have happened though isnt it?
Its what many want and with no evidence to support it either, So everyone gives up cause you are guilty, you know you arent. But no one bothers looking for her because the police said you did it.

Actually, it would make me do more to prove my innocence and do what I could to help the investigation and prove people wrong. But I don't see the McCanns doing that. They just seem hell bent on suing people and gathering as much cash as they can. Maddie seems to be an afterthought.
Hell, I did more than they did when my cat went missing. I found my cat, too.

Arguido had nothing to do with it. they booked the tickets out of the algarve BEFORE they were made ARGUIDOS. It was the PJ who said they were allowed to leave the country...or should I say prosecutor.
So are you annoyed with the Portuguese for allowing that to happen?

Were people sticking up posters saying you had killed your cat, did your local paper have a picture of you with 'cat killer' across the front page, did the following weeks edition point out that you had neglected your cat anyway and frankly served to have your cat taken away because how else would the cat have got away unless it had been abandoned in some way by you, did you believe that someone had taken your cat and did you worry that if they had your cat and then read the horrible stories blaming you think well they might get away with it and keep your cat?

Yeah, but they weren't arguidos then. They only fled when they were made arguidos.
But they had nowhere to live the following week, did you expect them to be named arguido and then decide to change their plans and stay on longer, find a new house? Why?
