A mother-of-three has been convicted of murdering her five-year-old son - more than two decades after telling police he had disappeared at a carnival.
Michelle Lodzinski, 48, looked visibly shaken after a jury found her guilty of killing Timothy Wiltsey on May 25, 1991.
The verdict comes a week before the 25th anniversary of the youngster's disappearance.
'I'm glad Timmy got justice,' said Lodzinski's brother Michael, who has stood by her throughout the trial and decades of suspicion.

New Jersey prosecutors had painted a damning portrait of Lodzinksi during the eight week trial at Middlesex County Superior Court, describing her as a troubled young mother who killed the boy and dumped his body in a ditch because he had become a 'burden' to her.
The description contrasted sharply with the one offered by her defense attorney, who cast her as a loving parent who worked two jobs to send the boy to a private school and had made plans to travel with him to Florida that summer.

Lodzinksi has always denied killing her son who went missing in May 1991 when they lived in New Jersey.
After today's guilty verdict, she is facing up to life in jail.
The 48-year-old didn't comment as she was led out of the courtroom. But as she went to leave, her brother Micheal was overheard telling her: 'I love you sis, very, very much.'
Her attorney, Gerald Krovatin, said after the hearing that his client was devastated by the verdict and plans to appeal.
Lodzinski, who was returned to custody on $2 million bail, is scheduled back in court on August 23 to be sentenced.
The mother-of-three told authorities at the time she lost track of her son at a Sayreville carnival, then changed her story several times to claim the boy was abducted.
Despite weeks of searching, police were unable to find the boy.
It was not until 11 months later, that Timothy's remains were discovered several miles away in a marshy area near a building where Lodzinski once worked, prosecutors said.

Near the body was a blanket, a sneaker and a balloon both sporting logos of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Timothy's favorite cartoon characters.
Despite suspicions about her changing stories, Lodzinski wasn't charged until 2014, after prosecutors reopened the case after they identified the blanket as a key piece of evidence in the case.
Alan Rockoff, the Middlesex County prosecutor when Timothy disappeared, now retired, said prosecutors didn't have enough evidence to charge her previously.
'We didn't have sufficient evidence at the time to pull the trigger,' said Rockoff.
'There was no direct smoking gun here. ... Hopefully now, there's a possibility of closure. Justice works slowly, but works surely.'
Investigators found three of Timothy's former baby sitters who identified the blanket as coming from Lodzinski's apartment.
Danielle Gerding, the boy's cousin, said she had seen the blanket in the family home when she babysat for him.
Gerding, who had been at the carnival on the day Timothy disappeared, described the moment Lodzinski said she had lost her son.
'She said she turned her back to get soda and he was missing,' she said. 'She appeared calm, almost shocked.'
People who knew Timothy and were at the carnival didn't see him there on the night in question although they saw Lodzinski, Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Christie Bevacqua said.
Leaving the blanket by the body was something 'only a mother would do,' she told jurors.
'The carnival was a cover-up,' she said. 'It was a way the defendant sought to escape detection. Timothy was in the ditch around the corner from where she worked, with his blanket and a balloon.'
'She was a young, struggling mother, struggling to survive and take care of her child,' Bevacqua said during her trial. 'Timothy was a burden on her. He was just no longer wanted, and her solution was a life without Timothy.'
Gerald Krovatin, Lodzinski's attorney, disputed prosecutors' characterization of Lodzinski and said she was a loving, devoted mother to her little boy.

'She didn't wake up one day and out of the clear blue sky say, 'I'm going to murder my son,'' he said.
He insisted there was no hair or fiber evidence on the blanket that could connect it to Lodzinski or Wiltsey. He noted that one of the baby sitters had been angry at Lodzinski in the past, while the recollections of the other two were suspect.
Meanwhile, he said, three carnival workers told authorities at the time that they saw a boy who looked like Wiltsey, including one who said she saw a woman calling the boy 'Timmy' or 'Jimmy' and, later, saw her on her own and looking for him.
Outside the courthouse, Michael Lodzinski said he had only asked his sister about Timothy a few times over the years and that she hadn't told family members what happened.
'She's the only one that knows. We don't know anything, and she never told us anything,' he said. 'He was a great little boy, and this should never have happened to him.'
Lodzinski said he had remained close to his sister in the intervening years even amid the lingering uncertainty about her son's death.
'After a certain point I had to compromise myself,' he said. 'I knew something wasn't right, but I had to put it aside. And I have to live with that myself. We didn't know anything.'
Lodzinski, who has two other sons in Florida and who was living in Port St. Lucie, was charged with murder in 2014, after investigators reopened the case and found witnesses who could identify a blanket found near the boy's remains as having come from Lodzinski's apartment.
No forensic evidence tied Lodzinski or the boy to the blanket or other items found near his remains 11 months after he disappeared. A cause of death couldn't be established due to the deterioration of the skeleton.

Instead, prosecutors told jurors Lodzinski's changing stories about the boy's disappearance demonstrated consciousness of guilt. They painted her as a young woman — she was 23 at the time of his disappearance — who struggled with jobs and relationships because of the boy and wanted to move on in life without him.
They contended Lodzinski used the carnival to concoct the kidnapping story and that no one who knew Timothy saw him with her.
Krovatin focused his defense on the absence of physical evidence.
He also produced witnesses who worked at the carnival who claimed they saw a boy who looked like Timothy. And he put on the stand an ex-convict from Arizona who testified that a former associate confessed to killing a young boy under circumstances similar to the Timothy's death.
Krovatin also noted that one of the baby sitters who identified the blanket and testified during the trial had expressed anger at Lodzinski in the past over a custody issue, and said the recollections of two other baby sitters were suspect.
Prosecutors didn't comment after Wednesday's verdict.

She thought she had escaped justice, she thought she was scot free.

She wasn't and she finally faced the justice she had avoided for so many years.

Think about it for a moment.

Waking up every day for 25 years wondering if today was the day it all came crashing down.
Going to bed every night for 25 years wondering if this was going to be her last night of freedom before the police come knocking to arrest her for murder.
The changing stories she told, does this sound familiar kate and gerry?
The blanket found nearby, strange given he was allegedly abducted at a fair.
I wonder kate and gerry, if the missing pink blanket, the one photographed on the bed and that suddenly got whoosh clucked, is near Maddie's dump site, or turns up somewhere.

How will you explain that one away?

Did the abductor come back and abduct Maddie's blanket under the noses of the police, the media and you and your chums and families noses?

Did you decide to place the blanket with Maddie perhaps as a comforter or maybe to hide incriminating evidence, not realizing that its presence and then non presence was noted, along with the missing blue bag which clarrie claimed you didn't own, yet was photographed in your wardrobe?

So far it has been 9 years.

Criminal cases are never closed, especially those involving murder, rape, abduction etc.

I know you will have made full use of your medical knowledge and the internet to see what can cause cadaverine and body fluid indications, how long decomposition takes, how far forensic science has progressed.

Forensic science has progressed to where a single skin cell, drop of blood, a hair or a fiber can reveal the truth of what happened.

You may have cleaned up the obvious evidence, you missed plenty though.

The blood behind the sofa,under the tiles, the curtains and the walls, the fluids found in the hire car, the cadaverine scent detected around the apartment and hire car as well as on items of clothing including a child's red t shirt and your checked pants and cuddlecat.

Forensics has advanced so much that all it needs is one skin cell of drop of blood to prove murder, after all kate, that is what you told us it was.
Gery also helpfully told us if it was an accident, why would they cover it up? telling us right there Maddie's death was non accidental.

I wonder, can you really trust your tapas chums to stay silent until the day they die?
I wonder, can you and gerry trust each other not to spill the beans till the day you die, especially if divorce rears its head and custody of the twins becomes the issue?
Your marriage was in big trouble before Maddie died, it is in even bigger trouble now.
You are both trapped in a loveless marriage, knowing that if you separate, it will be every man for themselves regarding the twins and passing the buck.

It's been 9 years kate and gerry.

We can see how it has aged you kate, how long before a younger, better looking model catches gerry's eye?

Just think, another 16 years at least of you being in the spotlight of suspicion.
Another 16 years at least of going to sleep and waking up wondering if today is the day it all comes crashing down.
Another 16 years at least of being unemployable, all those years you have wasted on studying to be a doctor and now kate, you can't even find a job in a fast food joint or shelf stacking.
Another 16 years at least of suspicion, of whispered comments from family, friends and neighbors, the media and the public.
Another 16 years at least wondering if one of your chums decides to tell the truth, especially if divorce is in the air and custody of their kids is on the table.
Another 16 years at least of living with your own guilt, leaking the truth as your brain seeks to relieve the stress you are under.

From the get go these last nine years you, gerry, clarrie and chums have leaked the truth despite your best efforts not to.
You have told us Maddie is dead and it was non accidental, can you continue the lies and deception till the day you die?
You are fooling yourselves and your few remaining supporters.
We the public, the media, law enforcement agencies are no longer fooled, we listened, we watched, we acted and learned the truth of your lie.

What about the twins?

I guarantee they know more than you think, all those discussions when you thought they were asleep or didn't understand what was being discussed.
What did they see and hear that week?
What if they decide to talk to the police about what they have seen and heard these past 9 years?

Could it be that the people who finally bring you and gerry to prison and get justice for Maddie will be Sean and Amelie?

How do you feel when they bring up Maddie or ask the awkward questions about that week in PDL, the non searching, the subtle demeaning, the refusal to answer questions or cooperate, the refusal to do a police reconstruction yet finding time to do your own reconstruction,The suing of anyone disbelieving your version of events?
How long can you keep the charade up?

Even you wealthy supporters have distanced themselves.
The politicians you were close to are no longer in power and several are fighting their own scandals.

Will they throw you under the bus to cover their own asses?
