I thought they'd always said both that she'd been taken by a paedophile and that she'd come to no harm.jeanmonroe wrote:Maddie McCann was snatched by an Algarve paedo ring according to new police theory

Most people would not agree that paedophiles are harmless but in my opinion the McCanns and their friends have rather different standards to those of the majority.

To get phone records of 'thousands of people' is the only way they will be able to track down those anonymous payasyougo mobiles that were bought for the mccanns shortly after the event. I wonder where those phones will 'ping'.russiandoll wrote:Guardian 4th October.
British detectives say the key to Madeleine McCann's disappearance could emerge from a "targeted attack" on mobile phone data from thousands of people who were around the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz at the moment she went missing.
The line of investigation was disclosed as it was announced that Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate, would appear on the BBC's Crimewatch programme with the British detective in charge of the case.
The programme will broadcast a reconstruction of the events before Madeleine disappeared and the McCanns will make an appeal for anyone who was in the resort at the time, and has yet to come forward, to contact police.
Similar appeals will be broadcast in Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland.
The "footprints" from the phones of holidaymakers, staff and local people who were in the vicinity of the McCanns' holiday apartment in Praia da Luz when the three-year-old disappeared in May 2007 are being examined and cross-referenced with other information coming into the British inquiry team, officers have said.
Forty-one individuals from several countries including the UK are being investigated as persons of interest by the Metropolitan police, and official requests for assistance have been sent to 31 countries including Portugal to identify other people whose mobile footprints have emerged in the sifting and resifting of tens of thousands of documents, communications data and eyewitness statements.
The new British investigation began as part of a £5m review of all the evidence after an appeal for help by Madeleine's parents to David Cameron.
It is not known how many of the 41 individuals – among them 15 Britons – are considered suspects.
Many are people who need to be questioned in order to be eliminated from the inquiry. But detectives are known to have uncovered new leads and theories about what happened to Madeleine while her parents were eating a meal with friends at a restaurant in the resort.
It is known that some of the people of interest are sex offenders who were in the area at the time.Police will analyse mobile phone data to track any calls that might have been made from the resort to others outside it, as they investigate whether there was any kind of ring involved in the girl's suspected abduction.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, who is leading the investigation, said the analysis of mobile phone data originally collected by the Portuguese had gone beyond the stage of a general trawl, and was now being cross-referenced with other information.
His team have been cross-referencing tens of thousands of documents, communications data and witness statements from the Portuguese investigation, from eight private detectives and from the Leicestershire force.
"The mobile phone data is a substantial amount of data and a significant amount of it is unattributed. Putting this with layers and layers of other information, we are carrying out a targeted attack on the information. We are doing this in a focused way, working back from the moment that Madeleine was found to have gone. It is like pulling back the layers of an onion. Every hour my officers work on this case is designed to get to that very moment and find out what happened," he said.
Six detectives in Portugal are working with the Met and making inquiries on their behalf. But the plan to send a team of Met officers to work out of Portugal has yet to be acted upon, as delicate negotiations continue with the Portuguese authorities, who closed their investigation and have refused all appeals to reopen it.

Wednesday 2nd : Gerry drawing his Luggage, looking destroyed, not present at Trish's statement ( he was outside), Freudian slip "facts of the file", Isabel bowing her head", journalist '" the coming days", no hearings yesterday and today but tomorrow, Saturday, 2x postponed hearings.Cristobell wrote:It should be remembered that the Philpotts did a shoulder to shoulder appeal with the Met police alongside them and look how that turned out.Tony Bennett wrote:Is this right?candyfloss wrote:I have always had faith in SY and that they would bring whoever was responsible for Madeleine's disappearance to justice. However there is one niggle, [i]call me cynical[i], but releasing this info, slap bang in the middle of a libel trial, and just when Mr Amaral's witnesses are about to give evidence??
Kate & Gerry have already agreed to stand shoulder to shoulder with detectives on the Crimewatch programme (whether live or pre-recorded I am not sure, presumably the latter).
The reconstruction has probably been done, is in the can, and was probaaly approved by the McCann Team weeks ago.
The only thing left to be decided was which Monday the Crimewatch programme was to be shown.
They have chosen 14 October. Why is anyone's guess.
All I want to say, and I acknowledge the optimism of sallypelt, ShuBob and many others, is that there must be a very very good professional reason for the police and the BBC to give us a Crimewatch special on Madeleine McCann 6 years and 5 months after her disappearance.
Just as there must also be a very very good professional reason for Scotland Yard to want to:
* interview 41 persons of interest
* examine 37,148 documents
* pursue nearly 4,000 'actions'
* pursue, in 31 countries, the ownership of thousands of cell phones (many of them pay-as-you-go) and the data on them
* establish a team based in the Algarve to conduct their ongoing investigations.
What is the purpose and premise of Crimewatch?
That someone watching will come up with the vital clue which will solve the crime.
So it remains to be seen exactly what they want the millions of people watching the programme to do
Are Tapas 9 and Isabel Duarte in Algare now?

The reconstruction was already done, and NOT waiting to be done, hence the announced schedule to be aired first on BBC on the 14th; and subsequent later dates in other countries.loopzdaloop wrote:Me too, I read the story as a ploy to get the mccanns and Tapas to do a reconstruction.MRNOODLES wrote:Crimewatch should be interesting.

At best, involving them to appear alongside Police is a subtle way to force them to acknowledge IT as a joint-effort with the Police.
When in reality the Police had probably already got it done, but obliged by law to inform them about it.
Hence the roping in of them to watch the preview and invite them to co-appear, which they can hardly refuse!
The Mccanns can hardly object to the script Police used if it adheres closely to statements of Mccanns and Friends in the files.
They can't suddenly say the statements were incorrect can they?
I wonder whether the CPS letter got to do with this reconstruction where actors have to be hired and a place of shoot set up in Portugal all shrouded in top secrecy.

I agree with the other posters who believe that this could be the beginning of the breakthrough. I have always said about the SY investigation that it is unlikely to be a whitewash as there would have been no need to proceed beyond the review stage as it would have been all done at dusted at that point. And of course, in order to arrest and charge someone, there needs to be evidence, real evidence, and unless there is something substantial being held back from the PJ files that we don't know about, then there is no evidence.
I also doubt they will try to pin it on a dead guy..what would be the point, there can be no proper resolution if that were the case, and of course, the latest development re mobile calls may be to do the complete opposite, i.e. prove that Raymond Hewlett and Urs Hans Von Aesch were no where near the vicinity at the time of Madeleine's disappearance.
In my opinion, I still believe that the Met are playing the long game, eliminate absolutely everything else, before turning the focus back to the McCanns and their friends, leaving them no wiggle room whatsoever and building a totally watertight case against them

Also, Gerry's demeanour on the steps of the courthouse was not one of someone who is about to be "officially" exonerated and the mystery of what happened to his daughter solved, rather more a man who doesn't know exactly what is going to hit him next. I also cast my mind back to the wretched faces at the 6th anniversary and I wondered exactly what had happened at that point as they've never looked like that before, and then of course a few weeks later, SY announced that the review had moved to an investigation.
End times imo

Exactly Jean, which also makes me doubt any sort of cover up/protection, because SY could have concluded that sadly Madeleine had been abducted by said paedo, was most likely dead, the McCanns would have been "officially" cleared, and closed the fund, saying that whilst they would have donated the remainder to missing childrens charities, sadly there was none left etc etc and that would have been the last we heard of them.jeanmonroe wrote:I also doubt they will try to pin it on a dead guy..what would be the point, there can be no proper resolution if that were the case, and of course, the latest development re mobile calls may be to do the complete opposite, i.e. prove that Raymond Hewlett and Urs Hans Von Aesch were no where near the vicinity at the time of Madeleine's disappearance.

The timing of this announcement is good as well, because it puts the final nail in the coffin of the libel trial...clearly Snr Amaral's book has not influenced the SY investigation in any way whatsoever, there they are thoroughly investigation every single potential clue, at a cost of millions...hardly a "hampered and hindered" search!

It's only just over a week ago that Scotland Yard chief, Bernard Hogan-Howe, said 'The police should strive to be loved and respected by the public'. Well, if they whitewash this case they can kiss goodbye to that.

A reconstruction without the original people is pointless in this case and any policeman worth his salt would know it. In a true investigation, the police need to see in real time the reactions and explanations of those involved when their stated timeline/positioning turns out to be impossible. Unfortunately I fear this will prove to be another PR exercise for the Mcs who can later say 'we have done the reconstruction'.
I can't be optimistic because the Met state they do not consider Mcs as suspects, I really don't think the Met are that clever in terms of this whole palaver being a sting operation on the Mcs. They have stated that their new perspective includes 'evidence' gathered by Private Investigators -who were in the pay of said suspects in the case. This is a whitewash and it's a real shame that none of this will ever be made public like the PJ files (I actually think the Portuguese justice system is superior in that respect).

If the reconstruction was badly received by the public, are they going to sue Scotland Yard as poisoning the public against them or blame them for the psychological negative effects on the twins.

it seems that the McCanns were the ones who asked for the dogs.
and they were made arguidos.
they insisted on a review
and it became an investigation
and we will get a reconstruction.
will they learn to keep their mouths?
