Suspects of what? Cleaning up or taking away the child?

Hope they are not going to bleach it using this excuse.

Then one has to wonder why they made up this cock and bull story about broken shutters and windows etc, refused to answer simple questions if only to help the police, refused to go back for the reconstruction.
If they'd pre knowledge that an elderly couple had come in to soothe their crying children they did not mention it to the Police - very strange!

Just wait - the Mccanns are going to jump onto this gravy train, change their focus from swarthy egg-face man to blame the cleaners.

Mystery couple seen going into McCanns’ flat on night before sobbing Maddie disappeared

SCOTLAND YARD detectives are trying to find a middle-aged couple said to have entered Madeleine McCann’s holiday apartment to comfort her because she was crying, we can reveal today.

Madeleine’s tears alerted a resident on eve of her disappearance

It is believed they entered the bedroom on May 2, 2007, the evening before Madeleine disappeared from the Ocean Club at Praia da Luz on Portugal’s Algarve.

The tip-off was given by two key witnesses who were reinterviewed as part of the Yard’s two-year, £4.5million investigation.

It is already known that Pamela Fenn, who lived directly above apartment 5a, heard a child, believed to be Madeleine, crying for about an hour on the evening of May 2.

She was so concerned she rang a friend in the village to ask what to do and considered ringing Portugal’s Policia Judiciaria.

At the time, Madeleine’s mother Kate and father Gerry were dining with friends at a tapas bar some 50 yards from the apartment.

A source said: “Police were astonished when this new information came to light. Officers spoke to other key witnesses to discover more about the middle-aged couple.

“Apparently they were concerned about the crying and went to see if they could comfort the girl.”

Pamela Fenn has since died, so police have been speaking to other people who were staying in the same apartments.

Our revelation comes as Scotland Yard detectives say there are potentially 20 suspects they want to speak to. Retiring Detective Chief Superintendent Hamish Campbell, head of the Yard’s Homicide and Serious Crime Command, urged Portuguese authorities to investigate the new leads.

He said: “There are a lot of people of interest. There are people who could be properly explored further, if only to be eliminated.”

Scotland Yard officers have been interviewing witnesses here for months, although the public prosecutor in Portugal has decided against reopening the investigation.

Despite claims of a “Mexican stand off” between Portuguese police and Yard officers, the Sunday Express understands there is in fact very good co-operation between both squads.

Pedro de Carmo, deputy national leader of the PJ, said yesterday: “We still co-operate with their team. There are good communications.”

Portuguese officers are very impressed with the diligence of the Met investigation and have been impressed with their interviews with witnesses in Britain.

We can confirm that a couple staying in the same block as apartment 5a were interviewed last February.

They were in their apartment on the night Madeleine vanished. Afterwards they wrote an account of what they saw but were never formally interviewed by Portuguese detectives.

They had been at a restaurant earlier in the evening and left at about 9pm.

The woman’s statement

On their way home they walked directly past the entrance to the Ocean Club pool, where the “Tapas 7” (the name given to the friends eating with the McCanns on the night Madeleine disappeared) were enjoying the meal with Kate and Gerry.

They walked past apartment 5a but noticed nothing untoward. The woman said in her statement: “I stood on the balcony at about 9.15 with a whisky.

“I saw people eating at the tapas bar and children in the play area. We went to bed at 10pm-ish. We were woken up by our bell ringing at 11.30pm. It was a friend of the McCanns, saying that a little girl had been abducted. The friend asked if we had a computer so they could get the media involved in the search.

“Two police were on the corner of our block, one lady said that off-duty police had come and were searching. We did see single men on mobiles while we were out who could have been police.”

The couple took part in the search for Madeleine and then returned to their apartment.

The woman’s statement continues: “We walked back up towards our apartment, a group had gathered on the corner. The McCanns were in bits, he was crying on the shoulder of a friend. She was screaming: ‘The f*****g bastards have taken her’. Finally, at around 4am, we said: ‘Is it OK if we go to bed?’ We directed this comment towards a man in a white shirt and jeans, who seemed to be authoritative.”

At the couple’s home here, two Yard officers questioned them separately for three hours and got them to sign lengthy statements. They further interviewed them this year to double check their information.

The couple are key because at precisely 9.15pm on May 3, Jane Tanner, a friend of the McCanns, said she left the tapas bar and walked past Gerry, who was talking to holidaymaker Jez Wilkins outside apartment 5a.

Neither Gerry nor Kate said they saw Jane. She reported that she had seen a man carrying a child, believed to be Madeleine, walking across the top of the road.

At the time she had not realised the significance. Officers asked the couple if they saw Jane, Gerry or Jez but they insist they did not.

The Sunday Express has visited the couple’s holiday apartment, which looks over the tapas bar. From its balcony you can see directly into the garden of apartment 5a.

The woman said: “We have one of the best views of the whole block. We are sure of the timings. If we had seen anyone we would have remembered.

“We will continue to answer the Yard’s questions. We have given our fingerprints and DNA. We were happy to assist. They should be left to get on with their inquiries.”

HOLY COW!!!

Is it i just me or do we have a front page story for the first time since 2007, from an indepedent witness, blowing to smithereens Jane Tanner's sighthing and the only "evidence" in the files of an abduction?

What is certain is that since the start of the investigation there were  incongruent and even contradictory situations concerning the witness statements; the telephone records of calls that were made and received on mobile phones that belonged to the couple and to the group of friends that were on holidays with them; the movements of people right after the disappearance of the little girl was noticed, concerning the state in which the bedroom from where the child disappeared from was found (closed window? open window? partially open window?) etc., and the mystery would only become even thicker due to the clues that were left by the already mentioned sniffer dogs. - The Words of a JUDGE in relation to the McCanns

It's a true mystery worriedmum (if Clarry will permit me to use that word) but if the 'soothing couple' left the cadaver odour and blood, how was their DNA 'selectively' cleaned up since only that of the McCanns, their friends, etc. was found in the apartment.

The couple has not been identified. If you ask me, this could very well be a Tapas9 couple. It was dark. They could see a man and women entering the apt but maybe didn't recognise them?

Is this article a Clarry/McCann posit. The date of the Fenn/ crying incident is being touted as 2nd May, i.e. the night before Maddie disappeared and which coincides with Kate's fictitious claimed crying event whereas Mrs. Fenn reported the crying incident as being on 1st May.
Deliberate confusion still, trying to back fill to make things fit when all else is being blown apart?

What would be the point of the McCann's undermining and discrediting their only source of abduction evidence when they themselves have used it as the central plank to support their claims for the last 6 years?

The McCann's will not have wanted this to come out becuase it casts doubt on the claims of Tanner.

This hasn't come from them.

If some one had gone in and soothed Maddie, unless they were known to Maddie, how would Maddie be soothed?
If they were strangers, logic dictates Maddie would have been very frightened and would have cried louder.
More importantly why didn't she tell her mum about the elderly couple's visit when she mentioned the crying.

You can see where all these is going to end up in. The MET is doing a hatchet job on the PJ.
They could have involved the PJ, investigate and interview the witnesses behind the scenes on the quiet without having to announce to the world prematurely when it may turn out to be nothing.

Besides, if Mccanns had pre-knowledge of this couple's visit, surely it would only be logical for them to tell the Police about it.

Mystery couple, cleaners, what happened to this from me's post

Detectives were concerned that the original enquiry had not traced and interviewed all the holidaymakers and staff at the Ocean Club complex in PDL from where Madeleine went missing. They also found gaps in the chronology of events around the time of her disappearance that were unexplained and had not been investigated. There has been inadequate forensic examination of mobile phone activity in the area ion the night that Madeleine disappeared six years ago this month.

Well, well, well, this is getting to be a very interesting twist to the tale.

It was always going to be the Express who capitalised the most from "new discoveries" following their large payout. And reminding the public at large of Mrs Fenn's observances (although they got the date wrong, the impact upon the public will be the same), along with another story of crying, from which the McCann's insist she "moved on" from pretty sharpish, and all that, will no doubt "turn" the minds of a good number of people who had previously considered the Mc's have already paid a heavy price for their "mistake".

Clearly there are versions, and then there are other versions, so the public's interest may well be piqued to look for more info on the net, and hopefully they will stumble across the video of the dogs!

I wonder if the McCanns are quite so pleased this morning, or are they wondering if they have had one bounce too many on the sofa with Lorraine?

I have a sneaking suspicion that Gerry's declaration to Cameron that his government would be failing if he failed to enforce Leveson to the degree that Hacked Off demanded (outraged luvvies are such a drag), was the last straw.

The "wider agenda" of their "marketing ploy" might just have fallen off the rails…..

I'm not too sure of that myself.

What we have is a statement given by Campbell on Friday which quite skillfuly said nothing at all but suggested a lot.

Since then we have had a frenzy of stories all coming from that one statement but presented in lots of different ways.

There appears to be lots of stories without quotes or attributable sources in order to sell papers.

The Sunday Express story is different as that has direct quotes and directly and unequivocally undermines the Tanner evidence.

It's just in the main a feeding frenzy in order to sell papers.

McCann case solved. It were them there cleaners that done it.

Could this case get any more like a bad Keystone cops movie?

After 6 years the old bill are now putting 6 British cleaners and 6 Portuguese manual workers in the frame!

And you know whose f****** paying for this s*** don’t you?

Meantime, Portuguese, Italian and Argentinian newspapers are carrying reports today about Stephen Birch’s findings, yet you will not find the merest mention of his name in the British MSM.

Moreover a South African radio station SAFM, have cancelled a forthcoming interview with Stephen.

The radio station cancelled after receiving an E-mail threatening legal action, a copy of which I have seen. Their Email to Stephen begins:

This is the email that we received this morning, warning us about your interview. In light of this development, we were advised not to proceed with the interview until further notice.

If you look at the photo above of Robert Murats driveway you can see how simple a task it would be to excavate the area that Stephen claims Madeleine is buried in. Whoever undertook the task would be doing Murat a favour since all those weeds would be cleared.

I would also remind you that ever since the 1st of July 2012, the British newspaper, the Daily Star has been trying to force the UK’s Home Secretary, Theresa May to release crucial files relating to Madeleine’s disappearance.

For reasons unknown – but not hard to guess at – Theresa May has taken all steps necessary to thwart the Star:

CRUCIAL files relating to Madeleine McCann’s disappearance are being kept secret by the Government to avoid a diplomatic war with Portugal.

They contain discussions between Home Office officials and the Met over vital information on the case.

But Home Secretary Theresa May and her staff have spent the past nine months preventing the Daily Star Sunday from obtaining the papers.

They said there would be “specific detriment to the UK’s relationship with Portugal” if the four files were released.

Ms May also claimed disclosure of three of the documents would “stifle discussion” between officials.

But we understand the papers may show a difference of opinion between the Home Office and Met officers, who are reviewing the files on Madeleine’s 2007 disappearance in Praia da Luz. Read more

Yet it was Theresa May who – given the above – inexplicably gave the go ahead for Operation Grange, the Mets on going review of the McCann case.

Put another way, the Met are investigating Madeleine’s disappearance while their own government are withholding evidence… You couldn’t make this s*** up.

As I said in an earlier article, the simple task of digging Murats driveway up would put an end to the speculation.

Instead, the Portuguese authorities, Scotland Yard and the McCann’s who – in theory – all have something to gain by digging up the drive are out-rightly opposed to it.

By the same token, Stephen Birch, who – in theory – has everything to lose by digging up the drive is being silenced under threat of legal action.

And, in the meantime, instead of investigating a wholly credible, potential burial site, our diligent police force waste more of the taxpayers money chasing cleaners and labourers.

The world has gone f****** mad

From the Portuguese press

A senior detective from Scotland Yard said today that British police identified a "good number" of potential suspects related to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, during a case review ordered by Prime Minister David Cameron.

"There are more than a handful of people of interest that can be investigated further, even to be eliminated" as suspicious, said Detective Chief superindentente Hamish Campbell, director of command homicide and serious crime, in remarks broadcast by the Metropolitan Police , the official name of the Scotland Yard.

Detective chief, however, did not elaborate on these potential suspects, identified during a review of the case by a team of nearly 40 members of the British police, which led to at least ten trips to Portugal, to contact with agents of the Judicial Police.

British police released this Friday, there is a new list of possible suspects in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and that no information that could help the Portuguese authorities.

The lead detective Hamish Campbell, of Scotland Yard, told Sky News that "the purpose of case review (begun in 2001) was to look at the facts with a fresh look that allowed some progress in the investigation of the Portuguese authorities."

Following this new research, "came up with a list of persons of interest that will be explored," the researcher added.

Detective chief gave no details about these potential suspects, identified during a review of the case by a team of nearly 40 members of the British police, which led to at least ten trips to Portugal, to contact with agents of the Judicial Police. This new research cost about two million pounds (nearly 2.37 million euros).

Remember that the Portuguese police investigation was widely criticized by the British authorities.

Parents and another British Robert Murat, were made defendants by the Portuguese authorities in July 2007, but the July 21, 2008, the Attorney General's Office ordered the closure of the case, which spelled the end of the investigation .

The British authorities are reviewing the case came to a list of "persons of interest" will be contacted to make statements about the disappearance of their daughter McCann in May 2007 in Praia da Luz in the Algarve.

The list, according to British media, is now in the hands of the Portuguese police.

The case was closed in 2008 by the Portuguese authorities, but returned to Scotland Yard investigations in 2011. According to the section responsible for the murders of police of London, Hamish Campbell, are on the case 30 agents.

Madeleine McCann was nearly four when she vanished from the apartment he occupied with his parents and twin brothers, a village in the Algarve.

It would be interesting to know why Campbell is now saying all these after he'd retired and no longer in charge of the case?
Why did he not say any of these while he was still on the job?
This fresh media frenzy over nothing may affect his successor and the review.

No, Mrs Fenn heard the crying on the 1st. 19 May Mail on Sunday: 'MADDIE: UK CLEANERS ARE SUSPECTS' + WHO SOOTHED A WEEPING MADDIE the Express - Page 15 260239

I expect the McCanns wouldn't like to see themselves described as 'a middle-aged couple' when they were soon-to-be young, fit and beautiful celebrities.

Crying acc. to Mrs. Fenn definitely on the 1st. However, she wasn't at home on the 2nd and made a statement to that effect.

Sequence of crying story:
4/5/07 --the twins cried
5/5/07 - the LPO is asked to tell the PJ again about the twins crying.
10/5/07 - the Sean and Maddie cried.
09/07 - Maddie cried.

Link the mysterious 'tea stain' episode of the morning of the 3rd and we have the full narrative:
On the night of the 2nd a nasty man came in and may have 'interfered' with Maddie which made her cry.
Nasty man went away and came back next night with adequate and previously unknown sedative which will take seconds to administer and work.

My vote is for the twins crying, it's very possible that e.g. a nanny in another apartment had noticed this and told the McCanns.
Therefore it is in their earliest statements. It has to be explained and incorporated instead of only coming from a third party. The developing story of Maddie alone doesn't surface until sept 07.
The tea stain is even later I believe.
Mrs. Fenn spoils it all in August 07 by giving it as the 1st and give a duration. It's then leaked to the press. Mrs. Fenn gets demonised in the book.

Mirror : [bold mine ]

A British property owner in the Portuguese resort of Praia Da Luz
told the Sunday Mirror police had pinpointed “persons of interest” to
the blocks.

He said officers had told him some properties had been sub-let at the time WITHOUT the owners’ knowledge.
The
owner said police had spoken to him twice about the Ocean Club
apartment blocks, which include the one where Madeleine was snatched.

“The officer who spoke to me blurted out the blocks ....five, six, two and four, in that order. I was amazed,” said the Brit.
Every
one of the properties they are interested in is right next door to, or
on top of the one where the little girl went missing.

“The officer said the people of interest were located in one of those blocks at the time.
“Knowing the resort layout, anyone in one of those flats could have looked down on that family.
"The McCanns were in the very lowest one on the corner.”

The British owner showed us a letter from the Met Police’s Operation Grange unit re-investigating Madeleine’s disappearance.
He spoke as it emerged detectives have 20 potential suspects.
The four blocks contain 59 holiday flats, including flat 5A, which Kate and Gerry McCann were renting.
Officers are believed to have discounted several of the remaining 58 apartments after contacting owners and occupiers.

So easy to spy on the McCanns

The four blocks at the heart of
the Scotland Yard investigation would be an ideal location for an
abductor to snatch Madeleine McCann.
Vantage points from some apartments give clear views of key areas at the centre of the police probe.
A
patio window and the front door of the apartment where Madeleine slept
with her brother and sister can be watched from many of them.
Crucially,
there are also views of the tapas bar where her parents were dining
with friends the night she vanished, along with the route they took to
check on their children.
Yesterday the Sunday Mirror visited the
four blocks in Praia da Luz and it was clear why detectives are focusing
on the properties.

The McCanns were staying in Apartment 5A of Block 5.
Its front
door is on the car park side of the block, so a kidnapper could be
fleeing by car along the Algarve’s main highway within minutes of a
kidnap.

In the days before Madeleine went missing, anybody with
access to certain apartments could easily watch her family’s every
movement without looking suspicious.
Next door to Block 5 is Block 4, which provides similar views.
Detectives are also focusing on Block 6, which is over the road from the other two blocks.
The
building provides a direct view of Madeleine’s apartment, the pathway
behind the apartment, the rear patio doors, the Tapas bar entrance and
the key roads out of the resort.
Finally police are also focusing on a fourth building, Block 2, which overlooks the whole area.

One police theory is that an abductor spied on the family from the moment they arrived.
Gerry McCann has said he believes they were being watched.
Met
detectives are keen to trace everyone with access to flats there at
the time of her disappearance but they have been hampered by the fact
that many are sublet.
There was an eerie silence outside Apartment 5A yesterday and the shutters were firmly closed.
The
yard was neat and tidy but without any activity inside it felt frozen
in time, keeping the secrets of Madeleine’s fate locked behind the large
wooden front door.

There were only a handful of tourists in the
resort which, while still open for business, is clearly tainted for ever
by the events in 2007.

Holidaymaker Jola Wrzesinska, 52, of
London, is staying directly above Apartment 5A and said she woke in a
panic a few days ago after she thought she could hear noises downstairs.
She said: “I was having a nightmare about Madeleine and I was convinced I could hear somebody downstairs, it was horrible.
"I realised it was only a bad dream but it shows that our thoughts are always with what happened to that poor little girl.

That is what we are being asked to believe yes.

A couple enter an apartment to soothe a crying child, windows and doors
closed and yet the couple could hear the distress of that child
outside. Sounds more like sobbing than crying to me. Poor, poor
Maddie.

If I were Mr. & Mrs. reading this in the papers I
would be hanging my head in shame, never mind spokesperson saying they
are pleased with the progress being made by the SY review.

was just going to say same Tigger, re the date. Mrs Fenn was away from her apartment 2nd if I remember correctly?

Anyway, anyone not knowing the Mcs or pals might describe them as middle aged, hitting 40, although I tend to refer to people in their 50s by that term. [ I refuse to be called middle aged in my 40s!]

These people who went in to soothe Maddie surely would have come forward at the time when it all hit the headlines or been traced?
It blows the checking out of the water if it was a pair of strangers and it is staggering to think M did not tell her parents how scared she was when strangers came into her room.

Do the Mcs now want us to believe the following scenario:

Couple had criticised them for leaving kids unattended. [never revealed by them as they were ashamed of length of time without checks, not even hearing crying because they were very far away for a long time]. How the neglect shows up in this express story !!
Threatened that they had better not do it again maybe [never revealed] or action would be taken [ reported to police?]
McCanns decide to eat at tapas to placate people who now knew of extent of neglect [ news travels around those staying nearby] remember Gerry not knowing if they would get in that Thursday [even tho 'prebooked !]
Couple had decided if it happened again they would act in the child's interests and doubtless decided they could give her a loving home where she has been for last 6 years.

cue....those fing b...s have taken her. [ and none of this told to police]
what a crock......
