It's a great pity that Tony Bennett has introduced a new element to this debate, yet has failed to come back to this thread to defend his thesis. One would have liked to have seen it developed, argued, analysed and dissected, and a conclusion reached. Others have taken the trouble to find the relevant statements from the files and posted them here, but the debate has died because the initiator, it seems, can no longer be bothered.

Much is made by Bennett and others of their desire for proper debate about this case, yet when the opportunity presents itself for such debate, Bennett disappears. He introduced an interesting and novel point which was well worth discussion, IMO, yet he has absented himself from this discussion. The "take it or leave it" attitude is not debate; it is impolite and unethical. If he feels, now, that he was mistaken, then one would hope he has the good manners and courage to admit this; if he feels he is correct in his interpretation of the events in question, then it would be useful to hear it.
