'Faked Abduction' Book - The Sun 27.01.2010
The Sun 27th Jan 2010
New Maddie slur for parentsBy ANTONELLA LAZZERI and NEIL SYSON
Published: Today
MADELEINE McCann's parents face more heartbreak as a second vile book claims they lied about her disappearance.
The slur comes as they today mark the 1,000th day since she vanished.
Claims ... new book
Faked Abduction, by Briton Steve Marsden, repeats claims in a book by ex-Portuguese police chief Goncalo Amaral.
Marsden, writing under the pseudonym Brian Johnson, alleges three-year-old Maddie was not snatched from her family's holiday flat in Portugal.
He says sniffer dogs detected the scent of a dead body in a car rented by parents Gerry and Kate, and cops concluded she died in the apartment and the body was hidden.
The McCanns won a court order banning the book by Amaral, 50, who was sacked from the Maddie inquiry.
Missing ... Maddie
Marsden, a regular contributor to anti-McCann websites, says libel laws can't touch him as he lives in America. But McCanns spokesman Clarence Mitchell said: "Everything Mr Marsden alleges is entirely untrue, as is everything Mr Amaral claims.
"Lawyers will take action if anything defamatory is said."
A thousand lanterns will be released across Britain today to mark the 1,000 days as Kate and Gerry, both 41, of Rothley, Leics, bid to keep the Maddie hunt active.
The Find Madeleine Fund has dwindled below £500,000 and could run out by March.

I'm sorry but any book that has been advertised via email to email addresses that have been gleaned unethically holds no interest for me whatsoever regardless of subject matter.
For this reason alone, I would question the credence of the author.

I think Stevo has merely pinched the translation of Goncalo's original book done by AnnaEsse and put a new cover on it.
I don't think he even got Goncalo's permission to do it.

You mean he's not going to take the opportunity to write about his in-depth scientific analysis of the playhouse or the no neck theories?

What information? It's all out there already.
The files, the 60-30-10 reasons, mr Amaral's book, the forums.
There's no need for Stevo's book.

There is so much ignorance amongst the general public regarding the Portuguese investigation that, imo, anything that will increase people's awareness of the PJ Files has to be for the greater good.
As for wether its the truth or not, let people make their own minds up.

Can't you just like borrow a copy or something? Give the money to Haiti? Buy a share in a pair of shoes?
It'll be the biggest pile of shite you've ever wasted money on. Save your money and treat yourself.

Yet you have nothing to say about the McCanns' shameless use of their daughter as a 'cash cow'.

A bunch of washed up, faded 'celebs' means nothing. I think this event was organised as a 'knee-jerk' reaction in a desperate attempt to re-invent themselves in light of what happened in the courtroom in Lisbon.
This changes nothing - they must return to the courtroom in Feb for the verdict which, so far, looks set to go in Snr Amaral's favour.

Who knows but, they may feel on cloud nine tonite but theyl be back to reality with a bump come the conclusion of the hearing. Amaral doesn't go in for the tacky publicity courted by the McCanns, he remains quietly dignified and confident - that is what appeals to the public.

I can't imagine they're feeling on cloud nine.
No matter what side of the fence you're on - at the end of the day Madeleine has been missing for 1000 days. 1000 days without your baby daughter.
That's not what cloud nine is about.

Those on my side of the fence believe that Madeleine died in the holiday apartment 1000 days ago - hardly something to celebrate. Now they have done hob-nobbing with their 'zzzz list celeb' friends, they can get back to planning their return to the courtroom in Lisbon to face their demons. Lets hope that Gerry does not do another runner.

Even if you believe she did in an accident, they wouldn't be on cloud nine.
They certainly don't look to be on cloud nine in that photo.

Hi
Totally agree with Vaguely and Inyx. It is there in several forms for people to read if they wish to. Joe Public doesn't need the information written again just by somebody different.
I don't think the majority of people are interested enough either to want to go and buy a book about the McCanns. As harsh as it may seem, they probably don't give the McCanns or Madeleine a second thought once the latest news programme featuring them ends.
Take care

No support from The Madeleine Foundation for 'Faked Abduction' by Steve Marsden
It is for these reasons that The Madeleine Foundation cannot support this book.jkh wrote:I think Stevo has merely pinched the translation of Goncalo's original book done by AnnaEsse and put a new cover on it. I don't think he even got Goncalo's permission to do it.
No matter how accurate the facts in the book, and no matter how good the interpretations of those facts, our understanding is that he is simply reproducing Goncalo Amaral's book lock, stock and two smoking barrels without his permission (if we're wrong no doubt Steve Marsden will tell us). But in addition, it appears that according to statements Mr Marsden has made in the past that he is lifting word-for-word AnneEsse's own translation, no doubt painstakingly done, again without permission (once more, we are open to being corrected). The only changes he said he is going to make is to convert a few words from AnnaEsse's English into Americanisms.
It is doubtful whether anyone should buy a book that is guilty of such a double plagiarism.
In addition, there was a suggestion that he was going to reproduce '60 Reasons' within 'Fake Abduction'. If he does that without our written and express consent, that would be a third reason why this book should not be supported.

Im not convinced that this book actually exists, we'v heard it all before. The cover itself is bizarre and off-putting and don't think many would be tempted to pick it up off the shelf to leaf through it, let alone buy it. I'l wait until the injunction is lifted from Snr Amaral's book, which surely if there is any justice in the world it will be, and buy up enough to give as presents. I don not like the way that Stevo has gone about this and, from what Tony says, has been most unfair in his dealings with the Madeleine Foundation. I beleive, also, that Stevo has set up an online shop selling tacky items - as with the McCanns, I do not think that this is right and feel that the online Madeleine shops are distasteful.
