In 2010, Clarence Mitchell, whilst hinting for funds to continue the alleged search for Madeleine, claimed that the McCanns had hired a team of crack detectives, the best there was. He named this company as Alpha Investigations Group. It turns out that there was no such company and the actual company was a bogus company called Alphaig Limited set purely for McCann purposes. The company had one director of Arthur Cowley, no other staff, no assets, no cash.
