Celebrities including Stephen Fry and Simon Cowell have joined a charity Twitter campaign to help find missing children.
The QI host and X Factor supremo reached out to their combined total of nearly 22 million followers in support of Missing People’s Big Tweet, on International Missing Children’s Day.
They were joined by Madeleine McCann’s mother Kate, who said the campaign “harnesses social media for good”.
Kate McCann will also lead a 500-mile (805km) bike ride from Edinburgh to London in June to raise £10,000 for a missing persons charity.
Mrs McCann will lead 20 cyclists on a Cycle Challenge starting at Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh’s landmark hill, on June 13. They will then take in Newcastle, York, Nottingham and Northampton before finishing at the Tower of London on June 17.

Madeleine McCann
Madeleine’s disappearance is one of the most famous missing persons cases of all time.
Her parents recently won a libel payout against Portuguese detective Goncalo Amaral, who had been on trial over claims he made in a book and a documentary that the couple were involved in Madeleine’s disappearance in Praia da Luz.
In a written verdict, a Lisbon court agreed that Mr Amaral should pay Mr and Mrs McCann 250,000 euros (£179,000) each in damages and it banned further sales of his book, The Truth Of The Lie.
British police officers spent eight days searching three areas of land in Praia da Luz last June, close to where Madeleine disappeared, but found no new evidence.
The Metropolitan Police launched their own operation in 2011.
Missing People is launching a fund-raising effort alongside Mrs McCann’s ride. £MissforMay encourages people to give up a luxury for May and donate the money they save.
Its chief executive, Jo Youle, said: “We are hugely grateful to Kate McCann for taking on this incredible challenge to help missing people and their families across the UK.”

It seems to me Portia there is only one missing persons 'charity'. If there were only one bus company, one supermarket, one energy company then the monopolies commission might have something to say about that.

Missing People is endorsed by the UK Home Office, UK Police and receives funding from the EU.

Missing People whooshed away their Patron Cliff Richard from their website and swiftly re-introduced his photograph.

Pat Geenty, Chief Constable of Wiltshire is quoted on MP's website as urging other police authorities to refer to this charity. Pat Geenty was a guest speaker at MP's first conference for the families of missing people. Pat Geenty is now under investigation over his handling of a sexual abuse case.

Missing People seems to be a poisoned chalice for Pat Geenty - I don't actually believe he is anything other than genuine but that's my opinion.

What charity indeed!

500 mile bike ride yaaaaaaawn.

Fern Briton has recently completed a 1,000 mile bike ride (not that I am a fan of hers) but I cannot undertand why all the fuss because Mrs. and her bezzie mate, R Fi are doing this bike ride. The bezzie mate who didn't even go to Portugal and stand in the witness box and tell the judge just how devastated her bezzie mate and bezzie mate's husband were after their daughter disappeared - as after all she witnessed it first hand, the devastation, we recently read.

Fry, Cowell who cares - another yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn from me.

I assume Kate's dad is ok now then as he was too ill for her to attend Madeleine's memorial yet she can do a 500 mile bike ride.

How long would it take to ride 500 miles, just in case she needs to nip home? A bit longer than a memorial service I assume.

Don't fret happychick. Mr Healy seems to be on the mend. Ma and Pa Healy have donated £50 and best wishes to their daughter's fundraiser.Only about another 5K to go. Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Odd thing is, Missing People seem to have become the Mccann personal charity. Most donations to Kate's bikeathon make ref to Madeleine or Kate's suffering and who can forget when the charity publicly stated it was going to concentrate on Madeleine during a high profile push. Well played Birmingham Evening mail in that instance. It published an article saying it was wrong that other missing persons didn't get a look in. The same publication has also published readers letters questioning the abduction theory and bias by other media outlets.

Well, I don't know.

I'm still very surprise by Alan Pike's statement in the Lisbon court that they were advised to use publicity to spread the news of the abductionby an organisation who specialise in Missing People.

That raises a couple of questions. How soon did MP know about the abduction in order to advise spreading the news far and wide?

Why are they giving such advice which is exactly the opposite of that of the police both in Portugal and the UK?

Is it not the case that this charity professes to work alongside the police?

The only activity I've seen from MP was an appearance on TV telling people 'who might be too frightened to call the police' that they could phone MP. In effect iirc he said that's what they were for. I think it was in relation to either the Tia or April Jones case.

be prepared for a massive push by MSM over this event for the next week or so, as has been said already it is supposed to be about raising funds for "Missing people" of which Madeleine McCann is obviously missing, as no one officially knows of her whereabouts!
If you happen to see the charity riders passing by,Please do not allow your self to shout abuse or behave in an offensive manner, if you disagree just turn your back on them.
Simon Cowell is offensive enough in his image already, he only uses's the people from his crap TV shows to make money for his company, he doesn't care of the mockery and sneers directed at the shows participants, "it's Entertainment" yeah right?
No wonder the UK Government love these programmes, keeping the masses from what is really happening in the world?

The MSM would love to post stories of offensive nature /attitudes directed towards Kate McCann and the charity riders so as to prompt headlines for their Wrag newspaper proprietors.
