You're correct in thinking it was Joe Peoples that reportedly gave that information but the bolded bit is not right. He said, Johnny McCann was cremated in Glasgow and his ashes buried in St Johnston (Donegal).MissDaisy wrote:Does anyone know where in England Gerry McCann was born? Also earlier in the thread there is a news article that says John McCann was cremated in England but his ashes buried in Glasgow - I think this came from Joe Peoples. I thought surely if he lived in Glasgow he would have been cremated there too.
There's also a funeral Directors in St Johnston in the name of Joe Peoples.

Thanks Daisy, you're right his ashes were buried in St. Johnston and not Glasgow. However, in the Irish Daily Mirror, 2008 Joe Peoples said " He was cremated in England but is buried in the graveyard in St Johnston." Maybe the paper made a mistake, I just thought it was odd if he lived in Glasgow why he would be cremated in England. Also unusual for a Catholic of that generation to be cremated, I know when my Aunt died in England she was desperate to be buried in Ireland so made arrangements in advance for her body to be brought over, she would not consider cremation on account of her faith.Daisy wrote:You're correct in thinking it was Joe Peoples that reportedly gave that information but the bolded bit is not right. I was reading again what Joe Peoples had to say back in 2008, he said this "Johnny passed away four years ago in 2004. Thursday will mark his fourth anniversary.
I looked at Irishgraveyards.ie and there is a plot for John McCann, it says he died "March 2005, aged 68." Hugh is buried there too. Sorry if I keeping banging on about Joe Peoples, but it seems he didn't know the McCanns well at all if he gets these facts wrong.

There was discussion about the McCann family cemetery plot, with pictures. Might have been earlier in this thread. Was quite a while ago.

When I first read this thread last year I remember a poster called Gillyspot said she thought she had cracked the Donegal story, did she ever come back with her conclusions?

Phone calls between Praia da Luz and Ireland, 3 May 2007
From the police files I was reading through a mobile phone analysis report from 29th May 2007 and found the following interesting
"two sets of calls seen during the "critical period", understood to be between 20h00 and 22h00 on 3 May 2007immediately stand out:
- Number 916... (unknown user), between 20h39 and 21h15,received 5 (five) connections from 969... ("Porto das Grutas - Sociedade Imobiliaria - Turistica");
- this same number (unknown user), at 21h01 and 21h16 also received two calls from an Irish number, 353872... (whose user can be determined if justified).
Widening the analysis period it can seen that:
- on that same day, at 17h40 and 17h48, the "Porto das Grutas" number made two calls to that Irish number (whose user can be determined if justified);
- at 11h52, the "Porto das Grutas" number made one call to the (unknown user) number. "
From - http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/MOBILE_PHONE_ANALYSIS.htm
I thought I would put this here as the Irish connection still intrigues me.

Is that Irish phone number so called because it is registered in Ireland or because the phone was in Ireland when it was contacted ?

Is it possible that the 11.52 is morning, since the times seem to be coming backwards from evening to 17 hours and then 11.52.
It's all very interesting but need to know if the 11.52 is am or pm to be sure.

The number corresponds as follows:
+353 (Ireland) (0)87 2......
The "0" is dropped, following the international code, with "87" then giving a Vodafone registered mobile, in Ireland. The two is the first of the rest of the number. Wish there was the rest available...

No problem, but it is further confusing although a local to Pd L might know.
I looked up the Porto das Grutas, Imobiliaria and the business details are confusing.
What is the address and contact information of PORTO DAS GRUTAS SOCIEDADE IMOBILIARIA-TURISTICA LDA?
PORTO DAS GRUTAS SOCIEDADE IMOBILIARIA-TURISTICA LDA is located at RUA PRAIA NR. 6 Fenais Da Luz, Portugal, 8600-156 and can be contacted by phone at ()-.
Who is the owner of PORTO DAS GRUTAS SOCIEDADE IMOBILIARIA-TURISTICA LDA?
The person who created the business is unavailable.
What type of business is PORTO DAS GRUTAS SOCIEDADE IMOBILIARIA-TURISTICA LDA?
PORTO DAS GRUTAS SOCIEDADE IMOBILIARIA-TURISTICA LDA is a business categorized under Real Estate Agents And Managers.
OK, so from google earth, Fenais da Luz is in the Azores, not in Mainland Portugal.
Portugal 8600-156 is Praia da Luz.
There is a 'Rua da Praia' in Praia da Luz but no 'Rua Praia'.
If you type in Fenais da Luz, you get the Azores, but the post code gives PdL.
So since the owner is 'not available' what is going on.
The address looks to be inconsistent and the owner unattainable.

Thank you. The link does not work for me, I was not being lazy. I would love to know if that phone was in PDL when it was called. Yet another Irish connection.

It's the only game in town out there, to some extent.
Purely coincidentally trading in property is also a popular method of money laundering.

That's interesting CR - I previously made the point on the albufeira trip thread (https://jillhavern.forumotion.net/t9021-gerry-s-albufeira-trip-1994)
that both Robert Murat and GPM seem to have links with local golf clubs around Praia de Luz (further explained if you read through the Albufeira thread) - and that a lot of the golf clubs seem to also deal in real estate property:-
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Could be the only game in town out there as you say or could be linked to other activities. And the call to the PORTO DAS GRUTAS SOCIEDADE IMOBILIARIA-TURISTICA LDA on the 3rd May which is also listed as a real estate/property managing outfit (4 shareholders would dearly like to find out who).
Yes real estate/estate agents really do seem to be popping up in this a lot. Hmmm
All in my own opinion

Blackcat boogie, I agree, was just doing some reading on Oceanio Developments, real estate/ golf course developers in Algarve - part owned by Irish man Gerry Fagan. They also developed Estrela da luz where Martin Smith stayed. Seems they are in a spot of bother for failing to return money to investors, coincidentally one of the aggrieved investors is a UK based doctor called Gerry! (not the same one though)

Re: McCanns Easter break Donegal 2007
There is a Jill-sociedade De Mediação Imobiliária Lda, at #8 on Rua da Praia, in Praia da Luz. There is also a property agent-type (Cool Houses) thing at number 6A. I wonder whether this used to be a single outfit that then split, or whether there has been a change of management.
ETA - the real estate connections are interesting, but could we return to the Easter break topic? I find this fascinating, as there are so many apparent inconsistencies. Something doesn't feel right about the photos (and statements), especially with regard to the supposed timeframes.

I don't think this has been posted yet so just adding for reference.
Joe Peoples talking about the Crime Watch programme. Still maintaining he rents the pub from Eileen McCann.
Snipped: Meanwhile, a Donegal pub owner who played with Madeleine just three weeks before she disappeared said he hopes police are now close to a breakthrough in the case.
Joe Peoples rents a bar from the girl’s grandmother Eileen McCann in the village of St Johnston.
Madeleine was in the pub with her parents Kate and Gerry, when they visited Ireland before going on holiday to Portugal where she was snatched.
Mr Peoples said he feels police are getting closer and closer to finding out what happened to Madeleine.
“I do feel that they are making progress all the time and I hope the television documentary will jog people’s memories. I will be watching the documentary as I know so many millions of others will be as well. I just hope they find the wee lassie. I go down on my knees and pray like a lot of other people and she is always in my prayers.
“I just hope they find her safe and well and I hope they also find the person who took her away.”
