Revisited - A handy 'Telegraph' guide to the 9 abductors and 2 abductresses we are supposed to be looking for
Hope Tony doesn't mind me resurrecting his OP about 'The Telegraph' rogue's gallery of abductors we are all supposed to be searching for.

Some of the newspapers have a nice, gentle line when it comes to ridicule or sarcasm.
Today the Daily Telegraph has a report on how 'pleased and delighted' the McCanns are with the continued banning of Goncalo Amaral's 'The Truth About A Lie'.
But it also has, most helpfully, a rogues' gallery containing artists sketches of the 11 abductors we are all supposed to be looking for.
CORRECTION - 9 abductors, and two abductresses - for the McCanns' senior detective Dave Edgar maintains that Jane Tanner might have seen a woman - and indeed on of ther two abductresses shown is that Aussie-speaking 'Victoria Beckham-lookalike' - except that the artists' sketch makes her look quite different from 'Posh Spice'.
Actually, I make it 14 different sketches we've had of the abductor - but I won't quibble too much with the Telegraph's 11.
It does make it hard to look for someone, though.
Isn't it all a tad confusing?
By now, couldn't we narrow it down to, say, one man and one woman?
Anyway, if you want to look at this rogue's gallery, and in case it helps someone 'search for Madeleine', here they all are.
Let's start at...
...say...
...No. 5...

Confusing to say the least Come on Dave and Arthur help us out here, is there anyone of these rogues we should be looking closely at?
ETA - word of caution, do not look at the rogue's gallery while drinking or you may my sides hurt from laughing so brace yourself before clicking on the link

Sorry, but '''we" are supposed to be looking ? I thought various firms of private detectives had already been paid millions to do just that, and Dave and Arthur still were being.
Give me a million and I would find the "hellish lair" within a fortnight. It is a very easy thing to do. The area is only 150 square miles, [circle radius 10 miles, but half is sea, so pi.r squared, over 2, and another chunk is a town - Lagos, and a smaller chunk is PdL. Edgar is very specific when he says M is being held in the "lawless hinterland". So by definition not in a town.
Is the golf course under construction north of PdL included in the definition "Lawless hinterland" ? I don't know. I don't play golf, so it may be a totally lawless game - involving men in strange clothing wandering around the countryside armed with clubs !
For the record,
a couple of microlights taking good resolution photos - 1 day
A small team scanning the photos and eliminating most - 1 day (max.)
Small team visiting hamlets - Espiche, Almadena, Alma Verde, Barao de Sao Miguel etc - to talk with locals - several days, as it would involve long lunches of sardines and red wine !
Identification of possible sites
Physical search of those sites - medium sized teams of volunteers, local scout groups, farmers, walkers, shepherds, goatherds, concerned residents, and a police officer or two to make it all official. Liaison beforehand with local mayor. Another long lunch !
But apart from the long lunches, why bother, when we all know it is nonsense. Perhaps the Private Detectives had got it right after all. Just take the money, and don't actually do anything.

The child's remains still need to be found so I guess that's a good reason to bother. Unless, of course, Madeleine was cremated which is why they must be confident she won't be found before the book launch.

No idea really, but what mother (and father for that matter) would have an expression like that if her daughter was really being held in a lawless village with a paedophile?
They know.

The caption would read "You pathetic people. You will never, ever, find her. We are too good for you. Right from the first night we had you in the palms of our hands and the whole team cooperated to keep you on track of our cunning plan. And now we are millionaires !"
Kate is just about to burst into fits of laughter, and Gerry already is.

You can't be the only (former) police officer to have serious doubts about the McCanns...why do you think the UK police are doing nothing about them? Or the Fund for that matter.

I suppose the short answer is that whatever happened "It" was on Portuguese soil.
Although it is possible to prosecute someone in England for a murder anywhere in the world, the standard of proof required is very high indeed, and lack of a body is a serious, though not an insuperable problem.
The only crimes that may have been committed on English soil would be to do with the Fund, and again, to prove "beyond a reasonable doubt, to be certain so that you are sure of their guilt", you would have to prove that they KNEW that Madeleine was dead. Again the standard of proof required in English law is very high. Rightly so, I should add !
And to start that particular ball rolling would require a substantial complaint of a specific crime, probably by somone who had been de-frauded, rather than a general suspicion that all was not well.

I don't think there is any need to go looking for Madeleine or any of the supposed abductors. The "abductor theory" is just that - the cover. To enable "The Fund" to continue to keep up the charade of abduction.I think the McCanns know perfectly well that no one will "find" Madeleine, she is and was dead at the time of her removal from the apartment. The cadaver scent proved that - even the McCanns have admitted the scent was cadaver by using Kate's contact with cadavers as the reason for it. I don't think they disposed of the body - someone else did that - though Kate would have been with Madeleine for some time after her death - grieving - hence the Cuddle cat contamination.
They will forever continue with the abduction theory because they have no choice. They know who killed Madeleine - but I don't think it was them. I think they are guilty of conspiracy and involved in disposing of her body. Even though sometimes they slip up at interviews and the truth seeps out.

I agree. Their only real choice would be a full and frank confession. If they did anything else, like a subtle drip feed of information, it would simply provide more exacerbating factors when they are sentenced after whichever of the trials eventually took place.
But a full and frank confession would involve admission of knowledge of the death, cover up of the death, concealment of the body, fraud on a massive scale, deception of family, friends, the general public, the Pope, the media, and inter alia accusing and involving all those actually in the know as conspirators in some or all of the above.
Which is why I don't think it will happen. Better from their point of view, and from the point of view of their solicitors and all the others involved, to maintain their innocence and to brazen it out, hoping that people will "refuse to believe" and will aquit.

I could forgive them for allegedly covering up the death/concealing the body to save their careers and remaining children. I cannot forgive them the alleged massive fraud and deception and taking libel money. For that, if guilty, they really do need to be punished. They are not above the law and nor should they be allowed to be. They pushed what IMO is the abduction fairystory too far by getting greedy for money. They should be punished. How are their remaining children going to feel when they read about this one day? Sorry, but they are [word deleted].
