The only scenario I can think of is that they've overdosed poor MM ( one parent gave her a dose without the other one knowing, hence the overdosing) and then they've panicked, thinking things like losing the twins, job, lifestyle etc. then because they've got away with it for so long, and things have escalated, other people getting involved etc, that it's too late to turn back.
Of course the other scenario is an abduction, kidnapping etc.......................

I agree. Vienna Convention

I think something along these lines with some recreational drugs in the mix.
2007 was pre Savile exposure and swinging could have caused family & career problems for some and connections were called in.

IMO the McCanns looked scared, guilty and grief stricken the first day, over the next few days they realised a cover up not directly about Madeleine and not for their benefit gave them protection by default.

As for English: The same Glaswegian friend, having lived in France for 4 years, one evening said, that he was thinking about taking a course in French. We all said in one voice, as if we had rehearsed it: "Why don't you take a course in English first?". All of this said with a smile and loving memories big grin
