How have the BBC spent £750,000 promoting the e-fits?tasprin wrote:It does seem that way, especially given the BBC has spent £750,000 of license payers money promoting two crucial E-fits which the McCanns have had suppressed since 2008.pennylane wrote:The whole McCann thing is horrifyingly corrupt! No Fate Worse Than De'Ath wrote:I'm going green at the gills already with the thought of the usual spin - tragic mum's thoughts for others in the same boat - etc.

Everything else aside, how can a charity have a mother who LEFT her three toddler CHILDREN alone, night after night to party, speak for them. Are they nuts or what.

The purpose of Crimewatch was to unveil Scotland Yard's new revelation - promoting the crucial E-fits and discarding the Tanner sighting - there is a media report somewhere on the forum that states the cost of making the programme, including the reconstruction, amounted to £750,000.Aoife wrote:How have the BBC spent £750,000 promoting the e-fits?tasprin wrote:It does seem that way, especially given the BBC has spent £750,000 of license payers money promoting two crucial E-fits which the McCanns have had suppressed since 2008.pennylane wrote:The whole McCann thing is horrifyingly corrupt! No Fate Worse Than De'Ath wrote:I'm going green at the gills already with the thought of the usual spin - tragic mum's thoughts for others in the same boat - etc.

But the money would have been spent on other material for Crimewatch, and the coverage was much more than the e-fits. Sometimes it does seem that any attempt to get further information is seen as some sort of affront.tasprin wrote:The purpose of Crimewatch was to unveil Scotland Yard's new revelation - promoting the crucial E-fits and discarding the Tanner sighting - there is a media report somewhere on the forum that states the cost of making the programme, including the reconstruction, amounted to £750,000.Aoife wrote:How have the BBC spent £750,000 promoting the e-fits?tasprin wrote:It does seem that way, especially given the BBC has spent £750,000 of license payers money promoting two crucial E-fits which the McCanns have had suppressed since 2008.pennylane wrote:The whole McCann thing is horrifyingly corrupt! No Fate Worse Than De'Ath wrote:I'm going green at the gills already with the thought of the usual spin - tragic mum's thoughts for others in the same boat - etc.

Maybe not as in salary (although I can believe that too), but no doubt she'll receive a generous reimbursement of "costs".secrets and lies wrote:Does KM get PAID for doing this sort of thing??
All my opinion of course.

Are the pauses due to the 'erms' being edited out?
Is she more than happy to support this appeal by handing over a large chunk of the dosh donated to McCann Enterprises Limited by an unsuspecting public, or does this mean we'll be seeing more pix of the saintly one and her lycra-clad spouse leaving no stone unturned as they compete in assorted marathons to raise money for a cause infinitely more worthy than their own?
This sound of this woman's voice contriving to sound as if she has an iota of empathy for those who have suffered grievous loss of the kind she has no experience of has me reaching for the spittoon.

Oh how very sweet, how calm, how modulated, how lovely. Certainly not the same woman who says 'f*****g t*****s' nah that would be a foul mouthed harpy.
Sickening, but eh, what an actress, what a command of the spoken word.

Nor would I, and I told them so at the time.plebgate wrote:I wouldn't send a penny to this cause as long as she is their ambassador.Nina wrote:Oh how very sweet, how calm, how modulated, how lovely. Certainly not the same woman who says 'f*****g t*****s' nah that would be a foul mouthed harpy.

The grandfather of someone I know went missing (unfortunately eventually found dead in undergrowth very near a footpath on Peckham Rye, cause of death unknown because the police did not find the body for weeks despite several searches during which time it had drawn the attention of dogs etc, in fact it was somebody walking a dog who found the body) and he had been "advertised" on Missing People.
I genuinely did consider contributing to them, but this was very shortly before they announced that the saintly Kate McCann was to become their ambassador.
When I emailed them to tell them why they would get no money from me, I got a "stock" reply which implied they had received loads of emails of complaint re Kate McCann.
But this stock reply implied that I had said that Kate McCann was implicated in Madeleine's death, which I was very careful not to say. I just said I could not understand how a mother who had - by her own account - left her three children under four in a dark unlocked room in a foreign country night after night could possibly be considered a suitable "ambassador" for them.
Anyway, when I pointed this out to them, there was no further reply.
F*****g T*****s indeed, the lot of them.

I go even further than that. I avoid buying anything at all from companies et al that support the debacle. It's probably a pathetic protest (I'm hardly a big spender) but nevertheless it makes me feel better to know that in some small way I'm not lining their pockets.plebgate wrote:I wouldn't send a penny to this cause as long as she is their ambassador.Nina wrote:Oh how very sweet, how calm, how modulated, how lovely. I have also sent an email regarding the appointment of Kate McCann as ambassador of Missing People. She is totally unsuitable!

Loads of people sent e-mails at the time this happened - including me. Standard replies were sent saying that the charity does not make judgements on anyone and basically those who disagree can lump it.

The Missing People appeal was broadcast.
My notes:
Madeleine was taken...
...stolen...
...the impact was awful...
...can't put it into words...
...it was horrible...
...living with uncertainty...
...new world of emotions...
...like living in limbo...
...nightmarish...
...child in the UK goes missing every 2 minutes...
...of these, 20,000 a year go missing for 'more than a week'...
...people need support and guidance...
...Missing People provides that support and guidance...
....with publicity and posters...
...they keep the search alive...
...they also use social media...
...they provide 'tailored counselling'...
...£30 will provide 'specialist counselling' for 1 hour...
...this help is available day and night, 24/7...
...a £100 donation will keep the 'phone being staffed overnight...
...they never stop looking...
...they never give up hope...
...they are a vital lifeline...
...I make this appeal from the bottom of my heart...
...you too can become that vital lifeiine...
...by donating to Missing People...
...send a cheque...
...or...
... 'phone 0800 404 8144

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

I certainly won't be listening to it but I have to question Kate McCann's motive for doing something like this.
Either it's an ego thrill-a natural pull towards being in the media, and also a product of being in deep denial of the actual facts.
Or it's a calculated PR stunt in creating and putting out there the image of Kate as the suffering mother reaching out to others.
But one way or another, surely keeping a bit of distance would be more beneficial at this particular time with the whole story turning into more of a farce, daily.
Was the endgame always to get rich and become an ambassador?

I too couldn't face tuning in...but from the main points noted by Tony I'm unsurprised at the gist of the appeal...help for those who have to deal with the missing, rather than help for the missing. I can't imagine an hours worth of counselling would be very helpful.Thirty million spent actually looking for the missing on the other hand, would...
