Would the #McCann s settle voluntarily if there was the tiniest chance they could win? #never #longliveGoncaloAmaral

the answer is yes, they would settle if they believe that Amaral has no funds to pay any damages or legal costs. Amaral would settle to avoid bankruptcy.

you seem so sure that it is MrAmaral that has given in,why couldnt it be the Mccanns, after all they have more to lose than Mr Amaral, like all thier dirty washing being hung out to dry.

I thought Dr A was virtually destitute and his life has been shattered by team mc so why would he back out now? What's he got to lose?

I pray justice prevails and the truth will out. Dr A has lost everything and has been pursued with a vengeance.

This really is an incredible situation. Has Amaral decided he cannot defend what he has said in the book? If he could surely he would relish his day in court seeing the McCanns squirm. if he had done this would have been fantastic for Tony. We don't know yet. Interesting times ahead.

I would think if Mr Amaral had wanted to back down he would have done a long time ago. This has been going on for a couple of years, it makes no sense for him to spend all that money on lawyers fees then back down if he thought he didn't have a good chance of winning, especially as his book ban was overturned. As someone else said, he had nothing to lose, on the other hand.......

Makes you wonder what is happening what with that strange lawyer going off to Brazil, wasn't he a witness against Mr Amaral?

As i have said, we don't know yet. We do know that if an agreement isn't reached in 6 months then the libel action will go ahead.

Ed76 I can see no reason whatsoever for Mr A reaching any agreement with the Mccs unless they pay him millions in compensation and issue a public apology

Rubbish, IMO
They don't want to, never did, go to court and have to testify.
IMO, again.
They've blocked all of his assets since YEARS.
To avoid that there wouldn't be any assets if they'd win.
This must be a different kind of settlement ...

It would appear that one of them has backed down. This has enormous implications. We will, have to wait and see.

They cannot risk Dr Amaral calling SY as witnesses. It's as simple as that.

So they must have offered him to withdraw their case, release his assets and pay his legal expenses, on condition that he waive all present and future claims against them and keeps mum about the deal.

That's the way these things are done.

Hmmm...makes one wonder what operation Grange might have found that backs Amaral, possibly. And judging by the released funds, and having LOST two cases against Amaral already, it is evident they are not to meet the costs and compensation that were coming their way.

Although they are too cowardly to actually go to court in person, they cannot risk it as there is no chance of success.

It is also a matter of PR IMHO. Two separate people in court within a couple of weeks, and they called off the search themselves in March? Pffff. The public wouldn't be standing for that.

Perhaps, Gerry pulled out meaning Kate would have had to go it alone. This wouldn't have looked good. It makes no sense pulling out NOW when they could have done so earlier and I believe it is the McCanns who are backing out.

I cannot see Snr Amaral agreeing to a proposal that stops him from proving to all that what he has been saying is the truth. It's not just the money, he really wants to break them.

But equally, I can't see him offering the McCanns anything. Why should he?

That doesn't mean that the next few weeks won't be very interesting.

I find it difficult to give this rumour any more credence than Coldwater's deserved in the end.

Not a rumour espeland the trial has been suspended/postponed whilst negotiations take place. See post earlier on with Portuguese article copied and pasted.

That's the way these things are done alright but there’s no way the McCanns would want to settle out of court in favour of GA before Tony’s case is dealt with here. They wouldn’t want to arm him with that little beauty.

Even if BS is right, this has quite some way to be dragged out methinks.
