[b]That man has caused us so much upset and anger because of how he has treated my beautiful Madeleine

Nobody treated poor Madeleine anymore heinous than her own parents.

BS is right, she is off her trolley. Mr Amaral was the coordinator of a huge investigation involving hundreds of police officers, he didnt treat Madeleine in any other way as a child to be found and what her fate was. He was doing his job and the mccanns crucified him for doing so,now, I wonder what that could mean?

He wasnt the only person in this grisly case to be targetted for doing their job or just standing around as a witness. Cough. Its amazing really how many people have been targetted by the so called Team Mccann.

Too true. Lets hope for the beginning of the end

Yes this does have an El Alamein feeling about it. As Churchill famously put it at his Mansion House speech:

'The late M. Venizelos observed that in all her wars England -- he should have said Britain, of course -- always wins one battle -- the last. It would seem to have begun rather earlier this time. General Alexander, with his brilliant comrade and lieutenant, General Montgomery, has gained a glorious and decisive victory in what I think should be called the battle of Egypt. Rommel's army has been defeated. It has been routed. It has been very largely destroyed as a fighting force.

This battle was not fought for the sake of gaining positions or so many square miles of desert territory. General Alexander and General Montgomery fought it with one single idea. they meant to destroy the armed force of the enemy and to destroy it at the place where the disaster would be most far-reaching and irrecoverable....

Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.'

More from Blacksmith......

Friday, 18 January 2013

Libel Diary January 17, evening

Goncalo Amaral statement on May 18 2009.

"I can say that we are going to sue the McCanns and others that, for the moment, I am not saying who they are, because we have a team of lawyers who are studying the case because we feel defamed and slandered, and we will move forward."

Goncalo Amaral interview with Algarve 123 December 8 2011.

“I have my anger well-guarded. No feelings for revenge. Like I say, they will pay for what they have done to me and my family – but through the courts. Even after everything that has happened, I still have faith in the Portuguese justice system”.

The Mirror,February 12 2012

Revealed: How shamed cop made a fortune spouting lies about Madeleine McCann's parents.

The Portuguese detective who was thrown off the Madeleine McCann case in disgrace has made a fortune spouting lies about the missing girl’s parents.

During his stint heading the inquiry, the Sunday Mirror caught him enjoying regular boozy lunches, one of which lasted more than three hours.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/goncalo-amaral-made-a-fortune-spouting-681722

ECU Ruling: East Midlands Today, BBC1 (East Midlands), 12 January 2011

Complaint
The programme included a brief exchange between a reporter and Gonçalo Amaral (a former policeman who had worked on the disappearance of Madeleine McCann and had since written a book on the case). One word in the exchange was bleeped, and the report gave the impression that this was because Sr Amaral had used offensive language about the MrCanns. A viewer complained that this was inaccurate and unfair to Sr Amaral.

Outcome
The reporter's belief, reinforced by others on the programme team who viewed the recording, was that Sr Amaral had indeed used an English phrase which included an offensive term applied to the McCanns. On further examination, however, it became clear that Sr Amaral had been speaking Portuguese, and that an inoffensive phrase had been misconstrued. Upheld

The Mail, January 15 2010. By-lined David Jones

"During the first few weeks after Madeleine McCann's disappearance, Goncalo Amaral came to symbolise all that was wrong with the abysmally mishandled Portuguese police investigation into the case. A portly provincial CID chief who was plainly out of his depth and had a penchant for long, wine-fuelled lunches and leaking favourable stories about himself to the Press, he was removed as head of the investigation after six months." Article continues. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1243596/Shes-terrifyingly-hes-boiling-rage-So-HAVE-McCanns-trial.html
Article ends "Even if this is only a remote possibility, surely it should be explored - but not by a flashy detective who is so cocksure he knows all the answers he can't see beyond his own giant ego."

The Mirror 16/1/2010 Tony Parsons

IF, as has been suggested in Portugal, there was a "media circus" around the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, then it is the Portuguese police who are the clowns.
Cruel, stupid, spiteful clowns.
You would never guess it but Kate and Gerry McCann are not actually on trial in Lisbon.
Madeleine's parents have brought legal action against detective Goncalo Amaral, who they accuse of libelling them in his book, Maddie: The Truth Of The Lie.
But the Portuguese plods have used the libel case to declare open season on the McCanns. One former policeman, Francisco Moita Flores, told the court that only the "distraction" of the "media circus" prevented the McCanns from being charged with negligence.
"No one believed it was an abduction," he told the court. "It was a fairytale, a fable."
But if Madeleine was not abducted, then what happened?
The Portuguese police were shown up as a bunch of clueless amateurs by the Madeleine case, and - shamed, embarrassed, infuriated - they turned their rage on the McCanns.
Even now, the Portuguese cops treat Kate and Gerry McCann with a grotesque lack of respect.
Asked if he cared that he had hurt the McCanns, Goncalo Amaral told a BBC reporter: "No, f the McCanns ."
A class act, that fat copper, who has sought to make money out of a stolen child - and the endless grief of her parents.
And what a shock to see the faces of Kate and Gerry McCann back in our newspapers.
The indelible pain is stamped on their faces for ever.
The greatest tragedy is, of course, that a little girl was stolen from her family.
But it is also genuinely tragic that the Portuguese police did not seriously look for the bastard who stole her.
And that's because they have always been far too busy slandering that little girl's parents.

A very interesting month ahead with GA'S libel trial and Tony's hearing and a libel trial almost certain to follow. Tony has surely broken the undertaking that he gave and the judge seems to have ruled that the only way to determine punishment is via a libel trial.

When it comes to that ...a full blown libel trial, the Mccanns will bow out.

They can't afford to be in front of Court and be crossed examined under Oath, they will stand absolutely no chance whatsoever.
Especially since their case against Amaral has collapsed (or soon to be). That will be taken into consideration by the Court.

Looks like Blacksmith was right There are those on twitter now spinning away trying to make it look as if Mr Amaral has bottled it

Google translation........

McCann judgment that opposes the Gonçalo Amaral suspended

The trial that pits the McCanns Gonçalo Amaral, in which Madeleine's parents claim compensation of € 1.2 million for allegedly defaming the former PJ inspector, is suspended in an attempt to settlement. judicial source told Agence Lusa that the beginning of the trial, scheduled for 24 and 25 of this month, at 1. Civil Court of Lisbon, "was suspended because the parties are seeking an agreement." The order of the court to defer the suspension was signed at the end of Last week, for what now follows a period of six months, after which, in the absence of agreement between Gonçalo Amaral and the parents of missing child in 2007, in the Algarve, the hearing will be scheduled. beginning of the trial of this case was postponed twice , the first of which the February 9, 2012. Judge later marked the beginning of the trial in the Palais de Justice for September 13 of that year, with three more scheduled sessions, but did not take place either due to unavailability of attorney Gonçalo Amaral, who underwent an examination under anesthesia to the stomach. this action that prompted the request for seizure of goods Gonçalo Amaral as a precautionary measure, Kate and Gerry McCann still complain protection of rights, freedoms and guarantees. related case In, 7 . th Civil Court of Lisbon decided in January 2010 to maintain a ban on the book 'Maddie - The Truth of the Lie' written by Goncalo Amaral, and video with the same title, based on a documentary broadcast TVI. It doesn't say who is seeking an out of court settlement. In my opinion it can only be Amaral.

Just wondering.......if the McCanns were so sure Mr Amaral had committed libel, and took him to court for 1.2 million pounds, with all the huge costs that involved, why would they then want negotiations and now settle, this could have been done months and months ago????? @ Ed1976
You may be right and I may be wrong. But, I sincerely think "they" never ever expected/wanted a trial to go ahead. Neither with Dr. Amaral, nor with Mr. Bennett. IMO "they" were mistaken, as both put their heels in the sand and "they" really don't want to be in a court, answering questions, proving accusations. IMO, of course.

Maybe not. They cant afford to pay him for the damage they have caused, so I think its the other way around. I could be wrong.

of course if Aamral agrees to withdraw his book and his accusations then...the McCanns will settle on Amarals terms and Blacksmith will be right. From what I can see a libel trial is of no benefit to the McCanns as Amaral has no money and would not be able to pay damages, including the McCanns legal fees.

Similarly with Tony. Once Tony has paid the costs of Smethurst he will have no money to pay any amounts awarded by the court should he lose the libel case.

Because a libel trial is a waste of time if Amaral has no money which appears to be the case. they will run up huge legal fees which Amaral will be liable for but will have no money to pay. as you say, we will have to sit and wait to find the truth.

Why on earth would Mr Amaral withdraw his book, the Supreme court ruled he could sell it. As I said these negotiations could have taken place many moons ago, the trial has already been postponed twice, they have had plenty of time.... why at the 11th hour if they were so sure of winning??

Exactly! They will have known it for ages and at least since the Supreme Court denied their appeal to reverse the Appeal Courts decision that said Mr Amarals book was true to the files of the investigation.

So if they are asking Mr Amaral for money now I think he may well send them away with a flea in their ear

the answer is yes, they would settle if they believe that Amaral has no funds to pay any damages or legal costs. Amaral would settle to avoid bankruptcy.
