But it all looks very strange, particularly, as you observe, SY are not trying to find Madeleine. Their remit is to review the way the so called search has been organised. And this must involve looking at the way funds were spent.

The fund is a pte ltd company, effectively the mccanns can spend it anyhow they want even if they were to splash out on luxuries, it will not not illegal to do so. Only by scrutinizing works orders, and works done or not done by the pte detectives can the Yard determined whether the pte detectives is just a front or doing authentic work.

If they can prove the mccanns pte detectives are fraudulent where money transactions and instructions between team mccanns and pte detectives are a scam, as in bogus instructions, bogus sightings, bogus claims, and bogus payments (tokenistic payments but made out to look more) and their objective wasn't about searching for Maddie then not only the Fund becomes suspicious and justify further investigation but crucially the mccanns abduction hence search stories need to be seriously looked at.

I believe if the Yard cannot get hold of the rest of PJ files and PP not cooperating with the Yard as reported then maybe the Yard is working in reverse order. If the Yard can prove fraudulent fund and the mccanns are hauled up for interrogation over it then everything else will be revealed in the process.

Otherwise I cant see what the Yard can do their review results because the investigation of the crime of homicide remains the remit of the Portuguese police.

On the hypothesis that they find irregularities in the fund, they can take the mccanns to book over the fraudulent fund because this illegal criminality is considered predominantly committed on UK soil and remit of UK law enforcers.

On the hypothesis the Yard discovered the mccanns abduction tale is a cover up for a more serious crime, there is nothing they can do about bringing the mccanns to book or prosecuting them, unless they've unearthed new evidence that PJ can use to justify a reopening of the case.
