"THE MCCANN'S TURN OF THE SCREW"

On the 7th of September Kate McCann was interviewed by police at Portimao police station by the lead investigating officer Chief Inspector Tavares Almeida. It was at this interview Chief Inspector Almeida told the McCann's lawyer Pinto d'Abreu there was a proven 100% DNA match between Madeleine's DNA and that the DNA identified in the bodily fluids which had been discovered in the boot of the Renault hire car. The next day when it was Gerry McCann's turn to be interviewed the PJ made the same assertion. This time the Chief Inspector supported the allegation with a document which was shown to Gerry McCann that appeared to prove the case.
Kate McCann's initial interview was in depth and in detail. In it she was asked by the PJ to explain the dog alerts at the driver's side door of their hire car, "You’re the police," she said, "You tell me. Are you trying to destroy our family altogether?" The question put to Kate McCann by the police was an obvious one to ask as the PJ were fully aware Kate McCann was not insured to drive the Renault hire car in Portugal and that Gerry McCann, Sandy Cameron, Michael Wright and Justine McGuinness all were.

After Kate McCann's first interview the police at Portimao were in an upbeat mood. Finally it looked as if they had their man or woman, depending on which horse you'd backed in this one horse race. As Kate left the police station the police were seen joking one to another and sharing stories about the case. For Kate McCann however the mood was less light hearted. Kate McCann and Trish Cameron returned to the family's rented villa at Luz. The mood that evening was sombre.
Those that attended to the McCanns included Trish Cameron, Michael Wright, David Hughes and Justine McGuinness. It is thought Mark Chitty the director the Ocean Club resort and perhaps the most intimate of the McCanns business acquaintances from Luz was also present. The Hubbard’s, David and Susan, the closest of all the new McCann friends were only notable by their absence at the side of the McCanns during this, the McCann's most crucial and testing of times.
The McCanns now privately voiced the doubts they held about the robustness of their defence to police allegations and even spoke of the fear they harboured, namely that their own lawyer Abreu now believed the fact the McCanns themselves were in some way responsible for Madeleine's death. Without Abreu's support they would be on their own and quite exposed.
The next day Gerry McCann was interviewed by Almedia and the very same questions that had been put to Kate the day before were this time asked of Gerry McCann. The PJ were astonished to learn Gerry McCann either could not or more importantly would not offer any answers, of any kind. A short while before the start of this interview a Leicestershire police officer, not a Familiy Liason Officer but one who was based for the duration inside the police station at Portimao, approached Gerry McCann and advised him to, 'just stick to what you know Gerry'.
Again the PJ were insistent of the facts. The McCanns had in some way concealed Madeleine's body. One officer whilst brandishing the dog-handler’s report demanded answers from Gerry McCann, "Your daughter’s DNA was found and identified in places where it shouldn't have been. Your daughter Madeleine McCann. How do you explain that?" "Show me that report," Gerry McCann insisted. "No" the officer retorted, "This is the report that matters – with the dog."
Gerry McCann left the police station that day as an arguido or official suspect in the case. Paul Luckman the editor and owner of the Portugal News, a local paper written both in English and Portuguese, was astounded at the disastrous turn of events for the McCanns.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Luckman's interview with it's dire warnings of high level intervention should the PJ be unable or unwilling to substantiate their accusations against the McCanns as official suspects in the case, was as shocking as it was incredulous. Why would the McCann case provoke diplomatic intervention and how could any such action go undetected or unnoticed to onlookers of the case.
The net day the McCanns left Portugal and the crucial question, so reasonably put remained unanswered. Why did the dogs alert only when they were close to objects and materials belonging to the McCanns?
Three weeks after this series of intense and rigorous interviews Chief Inspector Almeida asked for a 'licenga sem vencimento' – an extended period of absence usually granted for study or training. Such periods of leave have no maximum length but generally last between a month and a year. On the same day it was also reported in the papers Almedia's request for leave had been made some time previously, but no formal statement was offered to the press by the police to support this suggestion.
Mr Almeida was portrayed by the Portuguese papers, and as the McCann interviews have subsequently borne out, as a man who according to his colleagues, who is a shrewd investigator, especially in the field of domestic crime. "He is very good. A very committed and persistent police officer," one colleague told 24 Horas newspaper. Mr Almeida was the head of the unit investigating the McCanns within the Judicial Police in Portimao and by 2007 had held the rank of chief inspector for six years. Almeida's previous expertise was in the field of theft and forced entry. Knowledge he gained whilst attached to the robbery unit at national PJ HQ in Lisbon might well have proved invaluable in the case of the McCanns which involved the supposed 'theft' of a body.
When Clarence Mitchell was asked for a comment about Mr Almeida's reported leave, he said 'the couple merely hoped that any replacement would be in place soon'. Mitchell then added "Gerry and Kate are very happy to continue to co-operate with the Portuguese inquiry, irrespective of which officers are in charge of it, and we would hope that any officers who are removed are replaced swiftly and that this is an opportunity to refocus and re-energise the search for Madeleine."
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
It is ironic indeed that the public should for once thank the McCann's spokesman for identifying and explaining the true meaning behind the Chief Inspector's sudden departure from the case. Clarence Mitchell's statement highlights and points out to us all the fact that Almedia was at this most ominous of times both for the McCanns and the judicial process in Portugal, "removed " and "replaced".

Re: "THE MCCANN'S TURN OF THE SCREW"
Sorry I feel a few expletives coming WTF, FFS, holy sh*t, this is a damning article and telling of the brazen attitude of the McCanns.. Most sinister is the REMOVED & REPLACED quote..I actually feel enraged reading that. There has to be a way to get this info and the other stuff we know out to the wider public.
Kate saying "you are the policeman you tell me" is what you would expect from some street wise criminal well versed in the law & their rights, she sounds like a common slut not a doctor and certainly not a grieving mother.

Re: "THE MCCANN'S TURN OF THE SCREW"
Just when you think you've heard every damning piece about the McCanns, along comes another piece. It really is galling to watch them taunting the police and conning the public when they should be behind bars, on charges of child neglect, at the very least.
Wikileaks have a massive audience right now. I wonder would they be interested in this story?

Brilliant idea maebee, if no one else wants to put it up I have no problem doing so.
Re: "THE MCCANN'S TURN OF THE SCREW"
If wikileaks can leak the stuff they are doing at the moment I dont understand why they dont leak the truth about operation ore and all the other child abuse going on in the care homes and also why they dont leak the facts on the Mccann case, I would say anyone who has facebook and twitter put it on there as well, the more people who know what kate said and what was going on the better.

A rag soaked in something flammable stuffed into a receptacle, the rag acts as a wick....generally they are done with bottles-light the wick and throw them and they explode into a conflagration.

Keep it down a little, Rainbow.
Good Lord! We will have the anti-terror squad down here in a jiffy.
Having said that, where have you learned how to do all this? Mum's the word on here, Rainbow. It will go no further. Were you in a posse or a gang at some point in your life?

Would it be too improper to ask if you were a mercenary in the late 1970s? Not a problem if you do not wish to answer this on the board.

I have never heard of a molotov cocktail in a bucket before. It looks more like stuff to clean the windows. A spray bottle of windowlene and a rag.

Hi Jill,
Not significant at all.
Sandy is obviously a tidy person and like all tidy people he likes to keep his car clean.
It is so important to him to be seen in a clean car that on the day the Google car photographed his driveway Cameron appeared to have cleaned the car in something of a rush. On show to all is the evidence that Sandy didn't have enough time to put the bucket, clothes and detergents back in the cupboard.
Unusual for such an organised person to be so disorganised, but cleaning the car and being seen in a clean car is plainly more important to him than tidying up afterwards.
I only wonder when this photo was taken. Was it pre or post 2007? The answer to that might offer us all a clue as to when Sandy developed his frantic car cleaning routine.Maybe he has always been particular about this sort of thing.
Sandy was insured and was seen at the wheel of the Renault hire car in Portugal. It was Sandy who was photographed driving Gerry to Faro airport for Gerry to board the plane back to the UK, when an ambulance appeared on the tarmac.
Probably nothing, nothing at all, but then I don't have a tidy mind and make nothing of any of this,

Call me stupid or i've got the wrong day but could Gerry's tale about the Man having a heart attack on the plane that he helped be linked to this ambulance sighted on the tarmac? Did TM put out this story in case anybody spotted that ambulance and started asking questions?

Re: "THE MCCANN'S TURN OF THE SCREW"
Not sure but wasn't it found there was no record of a ambulance or admittance of someone in to hospital with a heart attack? Some say this is when Madeleine's body was brought home in Gerry's missing sports bag& how he didn't go through customs with the bag.coppernob wrote:Call me stupid or i've got the wrong day but could Gerry's tale about the Man having a heart attack on the plane that he helped be linked to this ambulance sighted on the tarmac? I had never thought of that before. Gerry said this person needed a full assessment or something. I presume it was done at a hospital. I wonder if he went in the ambulance with the patient.

That's what I was trying to say,Little Pixie, the story about the guy (who has never came forward after all this time, strange in itself) having the heart attack was put out in the media in case anybody spotted the ambulance and queried it.

Madeleine's father has wallet stolen in London [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Times Online
June 20, 2007
The father of Madeleine McCann, the child abducted in Portugal 48 days ago, has had his wallet stolen when he flew to Britain yesterday for only his second visit since his daughter went missing.
Gerry McCann was in London for a series of meetings examining how to prolong the campaign to find his daughter into the months ahead, but it was an unexpectedly eventful trip. As he recounted in his blog, the 49-year-old doctor from Rothley, in Leicestershire, first helped a man taken ill on the flight from Portugal, before someone took his wallet, which is believed to contain pictures of Madeleine.
"Flew in to London to for a series of meetings," wrote Mr McCann, a cardiologist. "Helped a passenger on the flight who collapsed. He was ill enough to require a full assessment on arrival and went off to hospital in an ambulance.
"Unfortunately shortly after arriving in London I had my wallet stolen which meant I was running late. I did manage to get to all my meetings which ran late into the evening."
Mr McCann, who works at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, is scheduled to return to his job at the end of the month when his compassionate leave finishes, but he has said that he does not yet think he is in the right frame of mind to treat people. His wife, Kate, a part-time GP, has sworn not to return to England until Madeleine is found.
The couple's four-year-old daughter disappeared from the family hotel room at a resort in Praia da Luz in the Algarve on May 3.
Since then, one of the largest police investigations in Portuguese history has failed to turn up any definitive information about her abduction. One British man, Robert Murat, has been declared an official suspect in the case but no lead, including a letter last week that claimed to know where Madeleine had been buried, has produced a breakthrough.
In his blog entry, Mr McCann said that as the summer wore on, he and his family were considering new ways to sustain the search for his daughter into the future. Buoyed by extraordinary support and financial donations from the public, the couple are interviewing candidates before appointing a full-time campaign manager to keep the case alive.
"The role for Kate and I in the campaign will not be nearly be so public," wrote Mr McCann. "We have to balance any campaigning in the search for Madeleine with protecting Sean and Amelie and making sure their privacy is protected."
The McCann's have orchestrated the release of 50 green and yellow balloons in 50 countries on Friday to mark the 50th day since Madeleine's disappearance.
