It knocks on the head the theory that the MSM are scared to report anything negative about the McCanns because of a risk of a libel writ.

There's so many wheels within wheels it's difficult to jump the tracks into the middle of it all, and I'd very much like to know which spider is sitting plumb centre in this tangled web.

I remember that in 2008 it was published that Amaral's publication of the book had less pages than his plan was, initialy. Even the Britsh media published it. Possibly he could have found out that that part of his book was not released by the PJ and he had to cut off those pages.

So SY have been spending millions of taxpayers money to investigate how Goncalo Amaral's book affected her and Gerry because that is what the court case is about or has Kate forgotten why they took Mr Amaral to court?

IF Andy Redwood whitewashes an investigation into a three-year-old child's disappearance, because he's under pressure from certain quarters, he'll have to live with the shame of it.

I very much doubt he'd lose any sleep over that, tasprin. Andy's superiors have allowed him to make public appearances because they consider him to be a safe pair of hands, i.e. unlikely to open his mouth and drop them in it.

A guilty conscience is an affliction that rarely affects police officers because the vast majority become ~~brainwashed~~ indoctrinated by whatever culture is prevalent in the force. As with other instiutions such as the armed forces, church, civil service, local government, the body politic, etc, the prevailing culture usually embraces the dangerous precept that the end justifies the means and that, when it comes to realising this warped ideal, no one person can or should be held accountable for the collective failings of many.

If Kate has spun to say "LET ME CLEAR MY NAME" and "BEGS TO BE HEARD IN COURT", then ironically, it totally goes to undermine their claim about the power that books have over public opinion.

Kates book has sold more than Goncalo's and that was her "TRUE STORY".
She clearly feels that her book has not cleared her name or got her story out to enough people.
Therefore, what effect does she really think Goncalo's book may or might not have had?
If she feels that a court is a stronger place to convince the public, then they have definitly undermined themselves after the 'unhelpful' claims in the media today.

What are they playing at?

I can only conclude that they have lost the plot entirely and are in freefall.
