I devoured all 437 pages of this book in less than three days.
And although I must have already read hundreds of thousands of words about this case over the years, it had plenty of information I didn't know.
Jon Clarke has clearly carried out a comprehensive and forensic investigation of the case in order to write it.
But equally impressive is the way he successfully takes the reader on his journey investigating it - from the morning this case first began, right up until the present day - with a very readable writing style, which made me want to keep on reading right until the end.
I would recommend it to anyone, from people who have very little knowledge of this mystery to those who are experts on it, including the authorities now investigating.

"Jon Clarke was the first journalist on the scene when Madeleine McCann went missing in 2007 . . ."
NO HE WASN'T
There is YouTube news footage showing him in a group of at least 6, comparing notes and reading what they had found out. He got there comparatively late having driven the 4 hours from his home in Spain.
So the first sentence is a lie. One he has repeated over the years.
Read the rest with this in mind.

There is no doubt that Jon has become more immersed in this case than almost anyone… and his knowledge and expertise easily explain why no-one should believe the conspiracy theorists and oddballs who still blame the parents!
Instead he builds a very thorough and detailed understanding of the prime suspect Christian Brueckner by talking to those who know him best as well as police and prosecutors.
The seedy underworld of the costas of Spain and the Algarve is there for all to see. … and his probe of the hundreds of paedophiles there is excellent, as his honest and alarming study of the rise of child pornography over recent years.
All parents will want to have a read of this book.
In fact, it’s essential reading.

This novel should really be under crime fiction. Clarke, not known for fair and honest reporting, has pictured a man on the front cover and is suggesting that he is guilty of abducting Madeleine McCann when the man has not even been questioned yet. To me, this book is highly libelous and both the publisher and Amazon should be mindful of this.

Yeah, it's self-published - I doubt a reputable publisher would have touched it with a bargepole especially with the photo of CB on the front who hasn't even been questioned by the police yet.crusader wrote:My copy has arrived, it won't be easy reading. We get a proper thrashing on this forum - as you might imagine well, actually PeterMac does - which is understandable considering Jon's bewk is his way of getting his own back on Peter for trashing his made up stories in the e-book.

Interesting that for the FIRST TIME he spells my name correctly, and gets my police service and rank correct.
Why wait till now ?
Some of the rest is just journalistic tosh and fluff, but he uses the form "–or his aliases or colleagues–" which I suppose he intends to give him immunity to Libel suits . . .
I am from a previous generation and served in a previous century, indeed a previous Millennium.
I am used to abuse from drunks, druggies, criminals, the mentally ill, . . . and journalists.
Sleep well..
I shall.
And will then reply. Here. Since we know he reads it.

Jon Clarke writes:
There was a highly credible sighting of a man fitting his description on May 28, 2007, at Tunnels restaurant in Alcossebre, a little-visited seaside town north of Valencia.
This part of the coastline sees few British tourists, which would have been important for B if he was travelling with Maddie, who was by then known to everyone in the UK.
The restaurant sits in a wild, isolated place called Capicorb and I spoke to two witnesses who are certain that they saw his yellow-and-white VW Westfalia van with German plates there.
One of them saw a girl identical to Maddie walk out of the restaurant around 11am and get into it.
They were so sure, they even made a note of the number plate – BMS 1049.
Juan, a handyman at the restaurant, still swears: “It was Maddie.”
The Mail 07.06.20 wrote:
According to the witness, Madeleine was seen at 11am on May 28, 2007 – three weeks after she vanished – coming out of popular local restaurant Tunnels in Alcossebre, some 600 miles from Praia da Luz. At the time, Leicestershire Police Detective Constable John Hughes issued an international Interpol alert with a ‘risk to life missing person’ warning demanding that Spanish and German police investigate.
He urged Spanish police to check the location for CCTV and witnesses and asked for the German vehicle keeper details. It is unclear what checks were made.
The police report, issued as part of Operation Task, says: ‘A caller has reported a possible sighting of Madeleine McCann, 11am, 28th May 2007.
‘Location given as a restaurant called Tunnels, in an old castle at an area called Cap Y Corp, Alcossebre, Spain. She was seen to leave with a man in a Volkswagen van.
‘We request the Spanish police check the location for any CCTV or witnesses. We request German vehicle details. Can the vehicle be circulated for a stop and check to be carried out if seen.’
Scotland Yard said Brueckner’s Volkswagen van had a Portuguese registration plate. It is not known whether he changed the registration plate at any time. As part of the appeal for information, the Met Police said in a statement that the suspect had ‘access to this van from at least April 2007 until sometime after May 2007’.
It added: ‘We believe he was living in this van for days, possibly weeks, and may have been using it on 3 May 2007.
‘We are appealing for anyone who may have seen it in or around Praia da Luz on 3 May, the night Madeleine went missing, the days before, or weeks following the disappearance.’
Last night, The Mail on Sunday asked Scotland Yard whether the van’s registration was the same as the one identified in the 2007 sighting, but the force said it was not revealing those details.

Brückner was running the VW Camper on Portuguese plates according to Scotland Yard.
The registration numbers for the Allegro Tiffin Camper A- and the Jaguar MD- were on German plates.
They do not match.

Re: Extract from Jon Clarke's new book: 'My Search for Madeleine McCann'
The current number plate format for Spanish Registered Vehicles has been in place since the year 2000 and consists of four numbers followed by three letters (eg. 1234 ABC). Prior to this regional letter codes were used.
Before the latest matriculation system was introduced in the year 2000, Spanish registration numbers were based on the province in which the vehicle was registered. It followed the format ABC-1234-YZ,
B arcelona
BA dajoz
BI lbao
BU rgos
There is no BMS. So it's not Spanish.
Nor is it portuguese.
The Portuguese vehicle registration plate system for automobiles and motorcycles is simple and sequential. The system has no link to geographical locations or similar. It is an incremental numbering system consisting of three groups of two characters, separated by dashes. This system started in 1937 with AA-10-00, which ran out on 29 February 1992. This then went on to 00-01-AA and changed to 00-AA-01 in 2005. This last sequence was exhausted early in 2020, and it was announced on 3 March that it had been replaced by the sequence AA-00-AA.

Re: Extract from Jon Clarke's new book: 'My Search for Madeleine McCann'
Even though the reporting witness photographed the vehicle and the number plates, not even OG or the BKA has confirmed the registration number of Brückner’s VW camper at the time.
No photographs have been released of this sighted vehicle publicly.
No mention that it was covered in cartoons.
Not a mention that it was white and yellow.
Just a report that a German, speaking English on his mobile phone, took a Madeleine into a VW Van. Which took 4 days to report.
Giving the Suspect a good head start, and increasing the search area.
So which Portuguese registration did Brückner really have?
I smell a rat.

Just checked and the figures are based on Amazon best sellers
If this lying cheat could manipulate the figures they would be ranked no. 1 or at least in the top 10

I took it down.
It was a reply to the chapter about me, but if you haven't read you would not see what I was talking about
and therefore it looked silly and self-indulgent.
And I am certainly not going to post the Chapter and give Clarke the pleasure of having his lies and innuendo
repeated here.
I'll review it in a different format later

This book is looking at angles I've been looking at over the last few years.
The lead investigator Gonçalo Amaral and his companions I feel are more involved then they would like to admit.
The missing child Joanna Cipriano ( the same man leading her investigation) she has never been found either!
Were the police turning a blind eye, while child trafficking was happening?
I'm on chapter 14 so far, and I can't put it down!
The undercurrent of human trafficking in Portugal has been kept quite hidden due to the impact on the tourist industry!
Child trafficking, especially to order can be an extremely lucrative practice, be it for the abductor or for the men who may possibly covering it up, under the guise of a police badge!
Absolutely gripping!

An investigator who has gome more than the extra mile. Detailed to go to Luz in the early morning of 4 May 2007 started 14 years of thorough investigation by Jon Clarke covering so many aspects of this mysterious case of missing Madeleine. I can't put the book down and am nearing the end. So glad he brought up the atrocious level of hatred, threats and trolling the McCann couple have had to endure on top of their pain at losing their first born. Nobody should have to put up with this.

Jon Clarke had added his name to the vast list of vile individuals who have done nothing but disrespect and abuse the name that is Madeleine McCann. She’s been nothing but a cash cow since her demise and the amount of people making money off of her name is despicable. If Jon Clarke had anything new to add to the investigation, (he doesn’t by the way) why not take that info to the authorities first instead of writing a book? I’m sure you’ll enjoy the proceeds Jon. Much the same as I’m sure poor Madeleine would love to know how you’re using her as a money maker. Poor Madeleine McCann. Abused in death as she was in life.
