3rd May 2014 - Seventh Anniversary Since Madeleine’s Abduction
1 May 2014 at 16:21
Seven years without our daughter, seven years without a big sister for Sean and Amelie. Sometimes we feel totally stuck for words. A lot of the time there are no words. Our situation seems as unbelievable as it did that very first night without Madeleine.

Whenever I find myself becoming paralysed with disbelief, unease, frustration or sadness, I have to refocus my mind on the positives, of which there are many.

The Metropolitan Police force continue to make encouraging progress in their investigation with new evidence being uncovered, fresh information coming in to the inquiry following appeals and subsequently, links being made between people and events. We are hugely grateful to the general public for continuing to support the investigation, especially those who have found the courage to come forward with information despite difficult circumstances. Whilst the MPS are cautiously optimistic of beginning enquiries on the ground in Portugal in the near future, we really hope that this will turn into a concerted effort from the Portuguese authorities as we know there is still a lot to do. Working together is key to the progress of the investigation and a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) could provide a more streamlined way of working with less bureaucracy. It may be seven years since we last saw Madeleine but the passing of further weeks and months as a result of unnecessary delays and barriers are not only frustrating, they are incredibly distressing. Each day without Madeleine and each day of not knowing is another day too many, regardless of how much time has already gone by.

May is an important month for all missing children and their families worldwide with May 25th being International Missing Children’s Day. This May is particularly special in the UK as a new enhanced Child Rescue Alert (CRA) system (to help find abducted and missing children in serious danger) is to be launched by the charity Missing People and the National Crime Agency. This system (based on the highly effective ‘Amber Alert’ in the USA) I believe, will help to save the lives of abducted children and ease the suffering faced by their families. It’s a very exciting step forward.

Throughout the whole month, the charity Missing People are running a ‘Forget-Me-Not’ campaign with several different ways for the public to get involved to help find missing children. One really important and simple way you can get on board is by signing up to the Child Rescue Alert. By registering, you will receive an alert with relevant information, by text or email, when a child is abducted in your area. This way you can join the search immediately and play a vital role in helping to find a child in danger. Please take a minute to visit www.childrescuealert.org.uk and sign up today. There are several other ways to help too – Take a look on www.missingpeople.org.uk.

It goes without saying, but needs to be said….We are grateful beyond words for the continued and unwavering commitment, help and love from all our faithful supporters. Thank you SO much for keeping Madeleine in your hearts.

                       SEVEN YEARS.

                       STILL MISSING.
                       STILL MISSED.
                       NEVER FORGOTTEN.
                       THANK YOU.

How rude!

Using her statement to complain about the investigations. How many other families of missing people have this level of resource given to them.

None!

And in the unlikely event that the unbelievable abduction did occur, she as ever fails to acknowledge their own culpability in leaving the children alone.

Out of all the tripe I've seen over the years,  think this statement is possibly the one that's angered me the most.

Yes, chilli, doesn't do much for one's blood pressure reading the above, particularly words such as "unnecessary delays and barriers", "less bureaucracy" (and we all know what that means).

I missed Lorraine yesterday, but saw Fiona Bruce having a chat with Mr&Mrs.  They present themselves as anguished parents, but I visualised standing behind them the dozens of assorted supporters: lawyers, MSM, tapas, family, PR, financial backers etc.  It really is a mini-industry.

Its an appalling statement, one that focuses entirely on THEIR loss, another day, another week, without Madeleine.  When will someone point out to Kate and Gerry, that is not about them as victims, its about the missing child!  Why do they never speak about Madeleine's loss? The life she should have had, the milestones she should have reached.

Where is Madeleine? She is now 11, she should be going to big school in September, if she is alive, her situation is desperate - only the McCanns, Scotland Yard's finest and that towering intellectual Lorraine Kelly believe she is being held prisoner by Mummy, Daddy and Baby Bear or seven little men with funny names who treat her kindly.

How much longer can the McCanns ask for sympathy because their family get togethers are not as happy as they could be?  We never hear words like this from real victims, they don't talk about their loss, they can't speak their loved one's name without crumpling into tears.  They talk about the life their loved has lost, not their own pain.  Their pain is obvious to anyone who sees them, they have no need to verbalise it.

If the powers that be and the McCann devotees cannot see the narcissism in Kate's latest statement, then we are going back to the dark ages.

FAQs

When do you use a Child Rescue Alert?

Child Rescue Alert is intended to be activated by the police when particular criteria are met:

The child is believed to be under 18 years old;
There is a perception that the child is in imminent danger of serious harm or death;    But you have told the world at every opportunity for the last SEVEN years that there is no evidence that Madeleine has come to harm, and no evidence that she is dead
There is sufficient information available to enable the public to assist police in locating the child.  Could you let us know exactly what this evidence is in Madeleine's case, particularly now that Tanner's fantasy has been exposed.

In other words this would NOT have been activated in your case, Kate.

"Sometimes we feel totally stuck for words"

Apart from the occasion when Kate was asked 48 questions by the PJ it doesn't appear to me that the McCanns have ever been 'totally stuck for words', albeit that Gerry's inability to speak his native language in a coherent manner causes him to stumble over them.

"A lot of the time there are no words"

There are no words which adequately describe the McCanns' behaviour and I suspect their legal advisers wish Kate had developed writer's block before she penned Exhibit KH1.

When asked by Fiona Bruce yesterday if she wanted to say something to Madeleine she was almost stuck for words. And didn't even look into the camera when she did speak to her daughter.

It may be seven years since we last saw Madeleine but the passing of further weeks and months as a result of unnecessary delays and barriers are not only frustrating, they are incredibly distressing. [In this age of the internet, mass communications and mobile phones, there is no need for further legislation or Amber Alert.  When a child goes missing it is flashed on the news, facebook, twitter and every relevant news outlet.within moments, and the police and public response is phenomenal. The number of children who are genuinely abducted is so small, that it does not warrant scaring the population into having their children microchipped and handing over their DNA].

I do feel sympathy for you Kate, but not for the reason you think.  The idea of spending a further 7 years chasing an obscure variety of suspects in the Algarve must be hell so too the knowledge that at any time, someone [be it a member of parliament - yeh, that'll never happen] or a journalist, will have the guts to stand up and say 'the Emperor isn't wearing any clothes'.

Christobell, I think the "difficult circumstances" she mentions, alludes to the parents of children who have been assaulted, who have found it difficult to make the decision to talk about their children's experiences. This was touched on in the Lorraine interview. I'm guessing this is the excuse they are using to explain why some of these stories supposedly went unreported for such a long time.

Totally agree about Exhibit KH1!  What were they thinking?  It proved they do not have any expert psychologists analysing their words before they go to publication.  Was it Blacksmith who said, it is longest suicide note in history?

The only reason I can think of why the parents of the children found it difficult to talk about the experiences is because they never took place.

The term "paid shills" comes to mind again to stir up suspicion on assaults on children to help the McCanns' cause.

It's strange that the "offender" wore such a distinctive jumper carrying out every offence, knew when the children were alone and in which room, got into the apartment/villa so easily without being seen or heard, yet no-one accosted him as he legged it out of the premises, hasn't given an e-fit of him, and no neighbour/friend has come forward as someone they know who is a predator of young girls.

Didn't someone mention on another thread that the obnoxious shills have disappeared.  Perhaps they've realised they've pushed their luck too far and are being investigated behind the scenes.

Could be Sofia, I have become to used to looking at this case with sinister goggles on.  I don't mean to trivialise the assaults, but the whole thing sounds as if they are clutching at straws.  The assaults must have been of a very minor nature, as they were never reported at the time, despite the Algarve playing host on several occasions to all the top investigative journalists in the world, and several official and unofficial investigations.

Just how traumatised were these kids, that they and their families could not and would not, report the matter to the police, either in Portugal or when they returned to the UK.  The editor of the Portuguese newspaper told us, no-one has ever heard about these attacks, and is it really likely that they didn't come forward when the £2.6m reward was on offer?

Very, in the Netherlands

Just this week a mother running away from domestic violence with her two small bairns immediately contacted the police upon the news of her disappearance being spread via a televised Amber Alert.

There are more instances of the Alert helping to find people since its introduction some years ago.

'Course not. But if -say- I first noticed all the motorway signs going up, and then noticed a child answering to the description crying and flailing her arms in the backseat of a passing car, I would certainly consider phoning in with the cars licence plate number; and so would probably more than half of the population

I'm curious as to how many children go missing and how often Amber Alert is used Portia?  And I fear for parents travelling with fractious toddlers.

In January this year, a little boy, Mikaeel Kular went missing and the response was phenomenal.  People came out in their hundreds, both locally and from afar to search through the night for the child.  It was the top story on every news channel and people were tweeting it and sharing it on FB, all of which have proved far more effective than any alert system in finding children.  Technology has overtaken the old police methods and ideas like Amber Alert, are simply not necessary.  Nothing beats social networking for getting an urgent message out to the public, and Amber Alert looks old fashioned and superfluous by comparison.

Amber Alert is a pre cursor to inserting microchips in all of us when we go for our next flu jab and passing our DNA to some power crazed wannabe despot with ambitions to take over the world.  I jest of course, nothing written in George Orwell's 1984, has ever come true, eh?

I wish they would stop with the constant scare stories!  I feel so sorry for young parents today, they daren't send their annoying little tykes out to play and burn off their excess energy for fear of abductors lurking on every corner.   And I pity the kids who dare not go out the door without a protective mummy checking behind every bush for a pervert.  This nonsense is depriving generations of kids the joy of childhood and their rites of passage, because society deems it safer to sit them in front of computer screens and feed them junk food.

I challenge the need for Amber Alert, not least because it is the McCanns who are trying to flog the idea.

Ps. I have updated an earlier comment on Kate's reply, on my blog.  smilie

So the abusive husband reported this as an ABDUCTION, with the mother likely to harm the children ?

So the abusive husband reported this as an ABDUCTION,  with the mother likely to harm the children ?
Exactly. One 'clerical error' or one lying spouse and a mother taking her children to a refuge could have dire consequences - and the decision to use Amber Alert is a decision that is taken quickly.

Very, in the Netherlands

Just this week a mother running away from domestic violence with her two small bairns immediately contacted the police upon the news of her disappearance being spread via a televised Amber Alert.

There are more instances of the Alert helping to find people since its introduction some years ago.

But would a 3 - 4 year old be able to do the same.

Ps. I have updated an earlier comment on Kate's reply, on my blog.  smilie

Whatever the McCanns are flogging you can bet it's to help themselves not anyone else.  They are desperate for the general public to see them as such caring, loving parents and would do anything to help other "missing" children but forgot to mention they never once got off their backsides to look for Madeleine in the crucial hours she needed looking for, 'cos they were too busy doing other things.

Since then they have never gone out of their way to look for Madeleine but have left it for the whole World wide population to look for Madeleine whilst the money came rolling into their "Fund" also known as the "Help the wider family of Madeleine" fund, none of whom I can recall have got off their backside to physically look for Madeleine in PDL or elsewhere.
