I remember that. Amaral was in Amsterdam for the presentation of the Dutch version of his book and on that occasion a very select number of people were invited to speak with him and his wife. Kazlux was one of them.

Ah say ah say thanks maam...
Thank you for drawing our attention to this article. I never new the dogs went though the Church and nearby drainage system. Old McCann ever the control freak cancelled the wife's request for sedation analysis, imagine my surprise. The good detective clearly know a significant amount of real info that has never seen the light of day through our gutter press mechanism. Well I look forward to the day that when it's all over and justice prevails.

Thank you for posting this, very interesting.
Especially because there's the only thing I don't agree with Mr Amaral, that she was last seen on the 3rd. Of course he knows many things regarding the case that we don't, but I don't agree with that for many reasons.

Well it does show that that the PJ weren't the "stupid plod" that the UK newspapers would have them being put down in history as, but that they were keeping things very much close to their chests and out of the public eye as all good police forces should do on an ongoing case.
I've never seen this article before but thank you "The Rooster" for bringing that to our attentiion.
It does give some hope to the ongoing SY investigation that there are a lot of facts that the public do not know about, as in the April Jones case.

I found this piece and wondered if anyone knows, or has an idea, who the female key witness may have been?Newintown wrote:Well it does show that that the PJ weren't the "stupid plod" that the UK newspapers would have them being put down in history as, but that they were keeping things very much close to their chests and out of the public eye as all good police forces should do on an ongoing case. The Rooster wrote:Thank you for drawing our attention to this article. Goncalo Amaral said that "he and other persons" believe Madeleine is dead and was preparing to bring to Portugal a 'key witness', on the day the head PJ decided to replace him with Paulo Rebelo, in the investigation of Madeleine's disappearance. "That key witness never came to Portugal and (PJ) never took her statement", Amaral told the 'Expresso'.

If Mr Amaral was quoted, verbatim, then it would imply he was making a reference to just one person as he says,' key witness' and 'her' statement. Interesting!

According to the files Mr Martin Smith made another statement, but Mrs Smith did not want to make another statement, therefore she could be the 'key witness' Here near the bottom of the page....Hicks wrote:Thanks for the link Admin. I took an additional statement from Mr Smith as requested. His wife does not want to make another statement.

It could be Mrs Smith, it could also be someone we are not yet aware of.candyfloss wrote:According to the files Mr Martin Smith made another statement, but Mrs Smith did not want to make another statement, therefore she could be the 'key witness' Here near the bottom of the page....Hicks wrote:Thanks for the link Admin. In the same article Mr Amaral was questioned and asked if he committed any mistake, Mr Amaral answered," I made one mistake, the first hour mistake, there are things I can't yet talk about".

SY detectives will be talking with Mr. Amaral presumably? Why wouldn't they? Should be a very interesting discussion.

Re: An interview with Mr Amaral
IIRC Amaral has mentioned his frustration about the fact that there was no documentation as to what the T9 were wearing that evening. IMO that had something to do with a possible change of clothes during the evening ... Or maybe a confirmation as to when KM was wearing the odorous pants of ganga?

Long ago, Amaral said he was prepared to witnesse against the McCanns, in a trial about the death. I believe that he still is. And I believe that he wants to talk to the Yard too. On that interview, he says 15 alleles are accepted as proof, in England, may angels be blessed.plebgate wrote:SY detectives will be talking with Mr. Amaral presumably? Why wouldn't they? I think the trial will happen in England. They accept the alleles, the fraudulent fund comes from there, Tapas 7 idem... too good to be true.
And less expenses for Portugal.
I wonder if the Yard investigation has already started in Algarve. The trouble is the silence of the PJ.
But Redwood will be prepared to talk to the media.

Re: An interview with Mr Amaral
Having re-read the news article concerning the middle aged couple seen going into 5a on the 2nd May, it could be that the female Key witness was part of that couple who gave this info. They say an account of the evening was written but they were never formally interview by the Portuguese detectives.candyfloss wrote:According to the files Mr Martin Smith made another statement, but Mrs Smith did not want to make another statement, therefore she could be the 'key witness' Here near the bottom of the page....Hicks wrote:Thanks for the link Admin. They had left the tapas at nine on the night in question, the article goes on to say that the- WOMAN- stood on the balcony at 9.15 with a whisky.
A the couples home here two SY officers questioned then separately for three hours and got them to sign lengthy statements, they were then interviewed again to double check their information.
Officers asked the couple if they had seen JW, JT, GM, in the street at that time, they couple insist they did not.
This key witness and her account of the evening May 3 blows all known statements by the MC'S and their friends right out of the water.
SY cannot ignore these facts now can they!

That fits nicely with the fact that JW refused to give that exact time. Imo it was more likely to be around 8.45.
