Martin Brunt on Sky News talking about Missing Madeleine
Martin Brunt's classic McCann quote of the year:
"When most of us initially heard what had happened we all thought "chavvy family from some estate in Essex who weren't looking after their children properly" but the fact that these were two middle-aged, middle-income or, even high-income professionals, doctors, it did rather take on a different hue."

Two days ago, Martin Brunt, Sky News Crime Correspondent, decided to use his blog to reveal the contents of an email Sky News had received from Gonçalo Amaral's agent.
The private email stated that it would cost 80,000 euros to facilitate an interview with the former PJ co-ordinator.
With unsurprising relish, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] has today regurgitated the information contained in Mr Brunt's blog into a full-blown article.
Speaking exclusively to mccannfiles.com today, Gonçalo Amaral revealed the reasoning behind the decision.
He said: "I want you to know that I made the decision to get paid for any interview given to any British media, but that doesn't apply to anywhere else in the world.
"Its quite simple. I have given so many "free" interviews to the British media that were never published. They were censored and thrown to the trash. Next time they do it, I'm sure they will think twice about the money they pay."
Only this week, in Amsterdam to launch the Dutch version of 'the Truth of the Lie', Gonçalo Amaral and Sofia Leal gave their time freely to members of the public and press. In a 'question and answer' session, scheduled for 30 minutes, they stayed for 1 and a half hours discussing the case.
Mr Brunt, who has published details from a private email, and Mr Lawton, who, like so many Britsh journalists, is unable to write the name of Gonçalo Amaral without prefacing it with 'axed', 'disgraced' or 'shamed', need to question what they are doing to help find the truth about what happened to Madeleine. And how much do they get paid for doing it?
Clarence Mitchell raged in The Daily Star: "It is scandalous that anyone should seek to make money out of Madeleine's abduction?" But should a man currently taking wages from Madeleine's Fund - which, let's not forget, draws from the pocket-money and savings of children and pensioners, and was donated in good faith - really be adopting such a high moral tone? And why do the McCanns even need a PR person? Can they no longer speak for themselves outside of a scripted TV studio or film set?
And, as Columbo would say, one final thing...
This interview with Gonçalo Amaral didn't cost one penny. Or euro.

The Find Madeleine Fund accounts have just been published on the internet and make intriguing reading.
They reveal income up to March last year of £1,846,178 and, after deductions of spending, a surplus of £1,052,027.
The details show the fund spent £81,904 on "awareness."
And £26,113 on "media monitoring"...a tiny sum, I suppose, because such scrutiny led to libel payouts of £925,000 to Kate and Gerry McCann and their Tapas 7 friends.
All of that will appear in the next set of accounts.
I wonder if they will show any donation from Robert Murat who collected more than £600,000 himself from the High Court?

You seemed at one point, quite early on, to take a personal interest and actually spoke to Mr and Mrs McCann, perhaps on more than one occasion. I just wondered what it was particularly about the parents of Madeleine that so captivated you.
Brown
I think every father and mother in the country felt for the McCanns and for such a thing to happen to any family would be awful and for them to have to go through this is something I felt I was very sorry about and I wanted to convince them that we were doing everything in our power given that we were not the investigators, given that we were not the police authorities to help them through this difficult time.
I talked initially to the relatives of the McCanns and then I talked to Mr. McCann himself and I tried to reassure them that we were doing everything we can.
Did you know them, was it the Scottish connection?
I hadn't known them before but I knew I knew them, I did know. They came obviously through, through, through those people but obviously for the parents it's the worse nightmare. (He stuttered very, very badly over this question.)
Gerry McCann said recently, I think, that if Madeleine had disappeared in Britain he felt the family would know the answer about what had happened to her. Now British police aren't always wonderful but it struck me on a number of vists out there that if she had disappeared in a tsunami or an earthquake Britain would send all its experts to help out. Why can't we on those occasions like her disappearance send our top detectives, who did offer to go. But, what are the protocols that stop it happening on those occasions?
You may be right. I talked to the Portuguese Prime Minister about this and we offered expert people from Britain, some of the offers were actually taken up, but not, because at the end of the day it was a police investigation of the Portuguese authorities. But I know the Prime Minister of Portugal well and he was concerned to assure us that everything possible was being done. You couldn't speculate about what might have happened in different authorities where there are different borders and we just do not know yet what actually happened. But what I do know is that the sympathies of the people of Britain are with a family who undergoes something that you hope never happens to you.

Bumping this up...hadn't seen the Brunt video before
If philomena mccann is telling the media kate is going to be arrested for Maddies death, how can the mccanns sue the press with what they said! beggars belief, one rule for them and one for everyone else
Interesting also from one the above posts that Brunt says he unable to write the name of Gonçalo Amaral without prefacing it with 'axed', 'disgraced' or 'shamed'...mmmmmmm

jd, Get em Goncalo said Martin Brunt could not write Goncalo Amaral's name without prefixing it with those words. I expect you read the post too quickly, like I do sometimes -
"Mr Brunt, who has published details from a private email, and Mr Lawton, who, like so many Britsh journalists, is unable to write the name of Gonçalo Amaral without prefacing it with 'axed', 'disgraced' or 'shamed', need to question what they are doing to help find the truth about what happened to Madeleine. I think that Brunt's name should be prefixed with the words "disgraced" and "shamed" as his style of journalism is pathetic. I don't know how he can call himself a journalist or get paid for being one.
(Sorry for not having the little wiggly thing under the "c" in Goncalo, but I don't know how to do it!!)
