English or Payneglish,? Empty English or Payneglish,?

Post by Kepharel 09.07.13 0:32

I had a 24 hour ban, but don't worry I won't be debating.  I did mention in a post that I was doing a précis of the Payne Rogatory, which some on here didn't think worth my while, because after all it is an English interview written in English and it has been researched many times.  I offer the following samples of unedited text from the McCannfiles website of this interview.

“yeah I know that Gerry left the table, you know, I can remember him, I remember him coming back to say well you know, he wasn't left, you know he didn't leave at you know an unreasonable amount of time, it didn't seem that he was away for particularly long, you know he did make some comment, which I know that if someone else was hearing as a group had said yeah, I'll say yeah you know that's what he said, but I can't remember err entirely, but err you know, the, the conversation at the table in terms of other people leaving and looking at the children was along the lines of you know that it, and again it transpired later that I, that other people were look, you know were popping in as an extra addition to what other people were generally doing in terms of looking after the err children and err you know when Matt came back I remember him saying to somebody oh yeah I've looked at, you know and they're fine you know and that was the way that the other families were, were working it.”

and this

“and that was before she'd even seen Kate so you know, the strength of that argument is just absolutely overwhelming, you know given the time frame err you know of when Madeleine must have gone, gone, that you know and for her to have described in detail the pull ups at the bottom of the pyjamas err you know the colours, you know and the timing is just, you know well, so.'”,

 and even this

Q. "Okay, and who did you walk back to the Ocean Club with''
Reply "Err there was Russell and Matt. As I say I can't, can't remember what hap, whether they went, we peeled off and they carried up to the apartment and I said oh I'll just go down to the tennis, you know, I can't remember exactly what happened at that stage, but I know I went and spoke to Gerry.'

Unfortunately there are 40,000 or so words of it equally as bad, and while some may find the above text self evident, I did not.  So I have spent the last few days translating and précising this monument to subterfuge into about 11,000 words of readable dialogue, which I am putting up for anyone interested, I know Rooster is, at least.

I think you should get an award if you can conjure that in something understandable.

Do you know anyone who gibbers like that in real life ?
Vicky Pollard is about the only one !
Normally the more educated the more coherent and articulate.
Exactly the reverse seems to have happened here.
Why?

Some similarity with the character in Kepharal's avatar.

As for the Tapas mob, the more unbelievable a story being told, the more waffling and rambling the speech.

BOLD MINE. TO WHOM IS HE REFERRING, OTHER PEOPLE? HE SAYS HIS GROUP WERE LOOKING IN AS OPPOSED TO OTHERS SUPPOSEDLY JUST LISTENING FROM OUTSIDE? WAS HE REF TO OTHER DINERS OUTSIDE THE GROUP? HOW WOULD HE KNOW? SOUNDS AS IF SOME OF THE  TAPAS GROUP WERE NOT ENTERING APARTMENTS, JUST LISTENING AT WINDOWS? AS HE DID NOT LEAVE THE TABLE HIMSELF HE MUST HAVE HEARD THEM SAYING THAT THIS IS WHAT THEY WERE DOING?
NOTE    ***  HE DOES NOT COMPLETE THE VERB TO SAY " WERE LOOKING IN."...GETS AS FAR AS LOOK-  THEN CHANGES THE VERB TO POPPING. THAT IS THE COMPLETE WORD BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT WAS GOING ON. THEY WERE POPPING IN, LISTENING FOR THE WANTED SILENCE SE EVEN A NON -MEDIC WOULD KNOW DOES NOT EQUAL SAFE AND WELL........ THEN RUSHING BACK TO THE TABLE. SOUNDS AS IF SOME WERE NOT GOING INSIDE TO CHECK AND THOSE WHO DID, WERE LISTENING BUT NOT LOOKING IN AT THEIR CHILDREN.
DID NO ONE ASK....WHY DID THE GROUP NOT TAKE FOOD TO A BALCONY/PATIO AREA, GET EXTRA CHAIRS FROM WHERE THEY WERE LOCATED, CLOSE BY ON NEIGHBOURING PATIOS AND EAT THERE TO SAVE ALL THE BLOODY FUSS! ANYTHING COOLED COULD HAVE GONE IN THE OVEN OR MICROWAVE, JUST AS THEY WOULD HAVE DONE WITH TAKEAWAYS AT HOME BEFORE DINING IN THE BACK GARDEN !

and this

*** NOTE AGAIN THE INCOMPLETE, THEN CHANGED VERB.

as am I ...thank you. [and I will ask only once that you reconsider leaving. You can avoid debate with those who rub you up the wrong way and vice versa , just as you would in the real world !]

I don't think Payne is easy to follow at all, I have deleted the nervous extras and what you are left with is shown above.

Why?

Because he is nervous. He is making parts up as he goes along, hence all the err......you know.............for thinking time.
       He is lying imo.

I am not sure though that he played any part in what happened, but I am convinced that he knows or has a damned good idea what took place. Imo he is trying to help his friend stay out of trouble.
I think far too much attention is paid to him at the expense of looking more closely at his wife who is a very good friend of Kate's and also an experienced anaesthetist.

I would like to be a fly on the wall of an interview room where she , not Tanner, was being asked a few rigorous questions under caution.

I'm interested

I've been looking at old interviews etc and sometimes something jumps out at you that you've missed or forgotten about or that later information revealed puts a different slant on it

I have met enough idiots in the medical world to not be completely surprised by this. Having said that, I think he takes the cake. To me it seems he is trying (lying) as he goes along. What otehr reason would there be for such an complete nonsense answers.

The rogatory statements are completely unbelievable.
All of them speak as if English was a foreign language to them and for educated people, mainly doctors, who must be used to speaking to patients at the very least, to speak so incoherently is very strange.
And, of course, they were allowed to just ramble and avoid answering the questions properly, why was that I wonder?
And Scotland Yard now want co-operation from the Portuguese?  Yeah just like the PJ got.
