Yes, indeed, another brilliant analysis from Dr Roberts. Cameron is in an impossible position but if I were him I would get it over with now, and blame the last government. Anway, the NHS is already the International Health Service - too many precedents have been set for Britain to suddenly start charging health tourists for their operations, so what is the problem if they are deterred by our little local difficulty with a few undesirable recruits to the medical profession? Just go for it Dave - procrastination is the thief of time.

Sounds about right Ashwarya. This is a problem that will not go away and it is implicating more and more people by the day. The SY review team are in the embarrassing position where they cannot come to a different conclusion to the Portuguese review team, without a major diplomatic incident. The only way to prevent this, is for SY to claim they have run out of funds and have to shelve it.

Unfortunately, even that will not be the end of the matter. At some time soon, the Portuguese will release the results of their finds - why wouldn't they? It is in their interests to protect their tourist industry and the reputation of their own police authorities.

Of course this could support TM's claim that they are being framed, but without 'clearance' from Scotland Yard, this argument is significantly weakened.

But back to your point Ashwarya, Cameron is indeed between the devil and the deep blue sea. Politicians have got away with 'big' lies in the past, and over time they are forgotten. This one however reappears at every anniversary and balloon releasing occasion (the main protagonists are hooked on the limelight), and the doubters are multiplying by the day. Not least those upset by the waste of their hard earned taxes.

At the moment I think we are seeing spin at its finest. Eighteen months and £3m later, people are going to want results. DI Redwood has already embarrassed himself with his asinine comment that Madeleine is either dead or alive - will his grand finale be 'there was an abductor or maybe there wasn't'.

Cameron must ask himself, how many more are willing to go down with the ship?

Going slightly off tangent, I always remember a scene from that wonderful film LA Confidential. The officers and staff of the police station had got drunk and had fought with the prisoners in the cells. There was a public outcry, so a few of the older detectives, whose pensions were safe, took the rap for it. The public had their scapegoats, and the real villains of the peace (or is it piece?) got away with it. Just musing.

Btw, excellent idea to blame it on the last government, they were up to their necks in it.

As you say, Cristobell, this will never go away. I am sure the Drs McCann have been advised to keep quiet, and the rest of the Tapas certainly seem to prefer to lie low. However the only defence the McCanns can possibly have now is to keep attracting attention to themselves and asking for reviews, so that when the s**t hits the fan they can say "Why would we have kept asking for SY to review the case if we were guilty? No-one would do that." Too right no-one else would do that, but this pair seem to be totally unique in their brazenness and arrogance. This case will be a gift for criminology students for generations to come, not to mention psychology, psychiatry and forensic science students, with all the material that is now available online and elsewhere. That will be their legacy, and the poor little twins will be the ones who have to live with it.
