I can't imagine Kate and Gerry singing!
Bryan Adams rang a bell for me - I believe he had an affair with Princess Diana, back in 1996.
I've never been a fan, I was surprised to find out he of English and Maltese heritage.
From the Malta Times :

He's a more interesting character than I thought -

Re: Canadian Connections...
I am eternally thankful that we were spared a McCann charity (of course) single.
It would have been interesting though to see if, in the almost universal goodwill there was in the early days, it sold as well as the revamped version of Candle in the Wind.

Maybe there's still a chance that Philomena McCann and John McCann can do their version of Hilda Baker and Arthur Mullard doing John Travolta and Olivia Newton John's You're The One That I want.
The thought of which brings this film scene to mind : 'The Horror ... The Horror.' Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now.

Re: Canadian Connections...
I think even though Gerry was "going Global" and it was probably one he would have liked to do it was probably the Royalties situation that scuppered it.

For those who have so far been spared from seeing what Gaggzy mentions.
Arthur Mullard rather than Hylda Baker does remind me of Philomena.

My first thought that flashed through my mind while reading this was...
This song, is Gerry singing it to Kate? "Yeah, I would fight for you, I'd lie for you"

Confusion (is good) ...... E L O
Let's Get Ready To Rumble (the McCanns) ...... The P J and Duncan

And of course, wouldn't they do a rousing rendition of Abba's Money Money Money.

Father Pacheco could join them on stage for that performance.

Going back a little bit further, the Scotsman had this on May 14th 2007.
The family have contacted Jim Kerr, the lead singer of Simple Minds, about using the band's song Don't You (Forget About Me) in a television advert with images of Madeleine. They have also contacted Bryan Adams to ask permission to use the song (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, the first line of which is "Look into my eyes".

So Bryan was on the table from quite early on then.
According to this - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - Jim Kerr, Charlie Burchill and Brian McGee of Simple Minds went to Holyrood Secondary School which was also, according to some sources (although, strangely, not that link), attended by one Gerry McCann. Weirdly enough, Frankie Boyle also went there....
