Yuck, gruesome. Beyond insane.
Pity the Court can't pass a sentence that is literally an eye for an eye.

Imprisoning him would be easy let off for him for the grief he caused her family and children.

The first case that I recall of a murder conviction without a body was that of the Hosein brothers and their victim Muriel McKay who was kidnapped in 1969.

Here's a link - http://www.hertsandessexobserver.co.uk/Bishops-Stortford/Writers-appeal-over-landmark-Stocking-Pelham-murder.htm

I think I'm right in saying (PeterMac will I'm sure correct me if not) that it was this case that led to news blackouts being put into place with subsequent kidnap victims (until they were released) so as not to endanger their lives.

I don't remember if is was specifically that case, but it has been a firm policy agreed by the entire press for a long time.
You can do nothing however, about parents who blab about kidnap; about specific identifying characteristics; about how the team of detectives know who is involved and how they are moving in on them - all of which would be a probable certain death sentence for the victim. Hence the agreement reached long ago by sensible and responsible people.

I don't know to whom you can possibly be alluding, PeterMac! Seriously, the McKay case was such a big story because the nature of the crime was so unusual in the U K at least. The only other one I can think of at the moment since then is that of Stephanie Slater in 1992.

P.S. Apologies for going off topic - this isn't of course a case where there was a conviction without a body.

Another trial without a body. Gilroy just found guilty..................

[snipped]

But he also said Suzanne's family were shocked by the fact that Gilroy has never disclosed where he discarded his former lover's body.
