McCann's petition

Muratfan and BB1 seem to be rejoicing at the McCann's petition reaching the 40k mark.
What are the McCanns going to do with this petition? If they really wanted this case to be reopened surely all they have to do is ask the PJ? Surely they don't need a petition? They had the chance to ask for the case to be kept open but they didn't bother then.
Muratfan says it is the anti's who don't want Madeleine found, but in reality it's Madeleine's parents who don't want her found otherwise they would never have let the case be shelved in the first place.
Plus the McCanns want to delay the launch of their book so as not to clash with the Royal Wedding but why not bring the book launch forward so that Madeleine may be found sooner?
Why do the McCanns make excuses for everything?
It's been nearly 4 years of them doing bugger all to help find Madeleine.

Don't think they've any intention of submitting their petition 
Didn't they say that they wouldn't hand it in until they had 100k sigs and am sure I read more recently that they will wait until the last person signs - so how long is a piece of string

Petitions were never necessary, all they had to do was ask the PJ to keep investigating.
Fund raising was never necessary either because the PJ would have investigated with no cost to the McCann's. Although, granted, that wouldn't have got their mortgage paid off.

30 million people in Britain have daily internet access.
Even if the 40,000 signatures were genuine it would still mean that 749 out of 750 people HAVEN'T signed!
