KATE and Gerry McCann have thanked the public for "being on our side" as they continue their desperate search for Madeleine.

They posted the moving message online after cops received a £300,000 funding boost to the £12million investigation this summer.

The couple said there's "still work to do" after the cash injection was announced in July by the Home Office more than 12 years after their daughter vanished.

They said this week: "Thank you for being by our side as we continue to search for Madeleine."

They have vowed to carry on the worldwide hunt “for as long as it takes” with or without the support of police.

We previously revealed Scotland Yard’s hunt for Madeleine McCann is being led by a top murder cop already battling London’s knife crime epidemic, The Sun can reveal.

Det Chief Insp Mark Cranwell has recently been put in part-time charge of Operation Grange, which has cost taxpayers £12 MILLION to date.

He runs a tiny four-cop team trying to crack a case the Met has been investigating for EIGHT years.

So far it has not made a single arrest - yet was still granted another £300,000 by the Home Office in June.

Shock figures showed blade offences had soared by seven per cent in the year to June, a record high.

DCI Cranwell is playing a leading role in trying to combat it - making a series of appeals to the public in a raft of recent teenage murders.

And a DNA expert in the US could provide a breakthrough in the Madeleine McCann case after he offered to analyse samples held in the UK.

Dr Mark Perlin has claimed his Cybernetics lab in Pittsburgh, which was used to identify victims of the 9/11 terror attack, could get results after testing in the UK failed to get any meaningful evidence.

Madeleine McCann went missing on May 3, 2007 while her family were on holiday in Praia da Luz and Portuguese cops sent the samples taken during the investigation and sent them to the UK’s Forensic Science Service (FSS) in Birmingham.

But the evidence was said to be “too complex” for the team and did not have a “meaningful inclusion/interpretation”.
DNA HOPE

Dr Perlin told the Daily Star Online: “Most of the apartment’s samples were taken from the wall, floor, and skirting board. One item was from the curtains.

“The mixture evidence could contain DNA from an unknown person who was not a member of the immediate McCann family.

“However, we wouldn’t know whether or not that stranger was actually an ‘intruder’.

“But the DNA results could provide an investigative lead, eg., for conducting a DNA database search to find the unknown person.

“And, once DNA from a suspected intruder became available, a TrueAllele comparison between the evidence and suspect would provide a match statistic.”

Why should they thank the public after £12 million of their money has been spent?  It wasn't as if they had any say so about it.

The thing I find difficult to understand about the SUN, is that they leave comments open.
The last time I looked there were 89, and every one – EVERY ONE – was critical of the Mccanns
and some simply abusive. 
Why do they do it ?

So DCI Mark Cranwell is in " part time " charge of Operation Grange ? With a " tiny four cop team " ! 

The other part of his time is dealing with knife crime . 

I know which I think is more important . 

What happened to Nichola Wall then , did she slink quietly out the back door ( was it locked or unlocked ? )

Is this the beginning of the Christmas McCann party , feel sorry for us , more money needed for the " search " , you know the " search " we never actually did !

Everything comes with a question. There is an article in the mainstream media today showing Madeleine's parents' gratefulness for public support which seems strange as there was a year's worth of funding allocated and would not have necessitated the usual pattern of Easter, October, Christmas and Birthday messages in May.

The funding has been paid in seasonal increments so far, except for this particular year, where there is no need to look for a headline to fill, Brexit is a disaster, our Government and political parties show themselves to be shallow and the Royal Family is the 'in thing' to display on the pages of the redtops and gossip news.

If he concentrates on "Knife Crime" then there is no hope.
There is no such thing as "Knife Crime", any more than there is "balaclava and shotgun crime" [which normal people refer to as Bank robbery]  or "Bending lamppost crime" [which most call drink driving]

The knives in question are simply the weapon-of-the-week for the enforcement of territorial and contractual disputes in the supply of controlled drugs.   They could just as easily use knuckle dusters, or sharpened bike chains, or baseball bats, or indeed any of the range of easily concealed weapons that young men have traditionally used.

Clearly to spell out the problem is not politically correct, we all understand that, but pretending that knives are the issue will have about as much success as sending in a team of carpenters to mend doors forced by burglars, and thinking that by so doing you are addressing the problem.
The knives and murders and stabbings are nothing more than a symptom of something else.

He aint having much luck sorting either crime out.

I give up.  Why can't PeterM be funded to join the team and get some sense back into the police force.

All this PC nonsense is sending good old fashioned policing out of the window and this is why we are in such a mess.

I shouldn't be surprised if it's designed to emphasise the 'troll' element.

The comments might be critical of the McCanns but at the same time they come across as inaccurate, vicious and if I might say - ignorant. It's no better than a twitter feed on a good day.

If you're going to air your views, it's preferable to have a good solid point that you can express coherently.

Kate and Gerry McCann have thanked the British public for "being by our side".

The parents of missing Madeleine McCann were granted a £300,000 fund to continue their search for their daughter.

They said on Facebook: "Thank you for being by our side as we continue to search for Madeleine."

Madeleine was three-years-old when she was last seen on holiday with her parents in Portugal in May 2007.

Scotland Yard launched its own investigation, Operation Grange, into her disappearance in 2013 after a Portuguese inquiry failed to make any headway.

So far the investigation, dubbed Operation Grange, has cost £12m, reports Birmingham Live.

The three-year-old's disappearance triggered the most heavily reported and high-profile missing-person case in modern history.

Her whereabouts remain unknown, but the case has recently been thrown back into the spotlight by a new eight-part Netflix series.

Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, both doctors, have always pledged never to give up the search for their daughter.

In a statement on the 12th anniversary of her disappearance, they said: "The months and years roll by too quickly, Madeleine will be 16 this month.

"It's impossible to put into words just how that makes us feel.

"There is comfort and reassurance though in knowing that the investigation continues and many people around the world remain vigilant.

"Thank you to everyone who continues to support us and for your ongoing hope and belief."

The parents of Madeleine McCann have not - I repeat not been granted £300,000 to continue the search for their daughter.

It takes two journalists to produce a short, totally inaccurate piece of tripe?  I despair!

I would have thought that £300K would have been a pittance for the McCann Fund itself to have contributed to the police search. Perhaps it might occur to them to do so; if there is any left!

What a travesty. They must know she's dead so how can they possibly justify this. Why can't the Mcawfuls emigrate so we don't have to put up with them.They could live in Katmandu or anywhere really as long as it's far from the UK and we never see or hear from them again.

The amount of money spent on this one child is beyond ridiculous and unfair to the rest of children missing in the UK. They know very well what happened to their daughter so it's laughable they thank the public. Eye roll

Knee-jerk reaction to PR pieces placed in the UK Press is the norm.

What I'd like to see is a full and frank disclosure of what Operation Grange has achieved to date, why it remains open, why it remains funded and what it hopes to achieve. I want the funding to go on for no other reason than to explain the continued existence of Operation Grange.

There are many people on this forum (called a cesspit), professional people, who are sticking a pin in everything in order to get to the truth. These people drop in FOI requests quite regularly and get a 'sod off' notice as expected.

I am hoping for faith in my Police Service. I admire UK Police and to think of any  skulduggery surrounding the demise of a three year old girl is disgusting. Keep it funded until it is forced to tell its own truth.

I would like to see evidence of this search for Madeleine as i haven't seen any yet except at the very beginning and that involved local police, local residents, expats and visitors/tourists and did not include the mccanns , the tapas 7 or the sundry family and friends that popped over for a freebie vacation.
Heck, the mccanns didn't even search the night she was allegedly abducted by a paedophile.
Instead they sent for their friendly priest, had a fake meltdown, prayed and slept in the apartment.

On their side - NEVER! They are so transparently guilty it's not funny. In the way they have spitefully and deviously gone after poor Dr Amaral they show their true colours. I pray I live long enough to see them dragged away in handcuffs.

Operation Grange are "by their side" for sure.

On the Find Madeleine Website, the posters that you can download of Madeleine show a 3 year old or a 9 year old.

There has been no updated progression image of Madeleine for 7 years, so just who are people supposed to be looking for, a 3 year old, a 9 yeas old or a 16 year old.

If they really believed Madeleine was abducted and still alive, they would at least be updating the progression image every year, at their own expence, or should I say, through the "Fund".

While the Operation Grange  charade is ongoing, it is legitimizing the Madeleine fund.

Do not thank me.  I did not and would not contribute to your begging bowl.  Maddie imo died in the apartment the night she went missing.  I believe Mr Amaral and his team solved the 'mystery' in the first six months.  Why has this been allowed to drag on for more than 12 years, and why are they still clutching a picture of a 3 year old when this girl if she had been alive, would be a teenager.  How is that supposed to help find what happened to her?
Why does our UK Government under 3 different PMs keep on throwing money to these people?  If they have not found her in all this time then they never will, and it does not say much for the quality of policing does it.  I believe it is time we ask for an itemised list of what our £12Million plus has been spent on.  Where are the accounts?  What have this couple got on our Government that they keep on funding the McCann fund?  When are they going to say enough is enough?  Thousands of other children have disappeared in the last 12 years, are they less worthy?

My questions would be:  'Why did Mr McCann say 'Confusion is good';  'Why did Mrs McCann have bruises on her wrists?'; Why did she refuse to answer the 68 questions that might have helped to find Madeleine? Why did the McCanns go after Mr Amaral who was trying to help find out what had happened to their daughter?';  Why didn't they go out and search for her themselves on that first night, why leave it to everyone else while they stayed in the apartment?'  Why did they 'phone their relatives in UK in the middle of the night M went missing and tell them that the shutters had been jemmied open, when the forensics people said they had not, it was impossible?'  Why did they say they could see the Apartment from the Tapas Bar when clearly they could not, and in any case the bar had plastic strip curtains at the windows, and the Macs sat with their back to the window?'  Why, if what they said was true, did they leave the front door, which was on the opposite side facing a car park, unlocked?  Anyone could walk in through an unlocked door, take the child out through the door and whisk her away in the car, but they came out with this really stupid story that someone had climbed in through the window and out again carrying a child in their arms.  Nothing they say adds up.  IMO Mr Amaral was right!  One other question:  Why were there so many businessmen, scientists, doctors, and a British Ambassador all at the holiday complex OUT OF SEASON?  Was it a meeting of minds?

Not only a teenager.  If Madeleine had been abducted by a pae**** group for exploitation, and survived only to pass into the one of the more usual outcomes of that sort of a start in life, the McCanns might now be unwitting Grandparents, perhaps even of another 2 year old.
Those of us in the public service have seen it all too often.

Kate McCann was advised by her lawyer not to answer 47 questions, when interviewed for the second time in September 2007.  This is normal

There weren't.  At least no more than you would expect to see at any holiday resort.   The British Ambassador was not at the Ocean Club on holiday

No it wasn't
