I find that article quite scary. As if he's not there to track down Madeleine, but other people of interest.

The PIs are there probably to cover the mccanns track than to look for Maddie.

Now that the book ban is unbanned, I wonder what the PIs are in Lisbon for?
They must be dispatched to dig up dirts on Amaral for the defamation trial.

For years now we have all been wondering about the reasons behind the choices that have been made with regard to the Private Investigators charged with finding Madeleine McCann by her parents and those with their hands on the very large sums of money which have been available for this search.

Last year, in May 2009, we were told about the latest (at the time) recruits to the cause. The intrepid duo, Arthur Cowley and Dave Edgar were introduced shortly after the second anniversary of the disappearance.

The latter scenario is the one that currently confronts the Alpha Investigations Group, the company headed by former detectives Dave Edgar, 52, and Arthur Cowley, 57, which has been employed since last year by the Find Madeleine Fund. The two men, who between have more than 60 years experience in the Royal Ulster Constabulary and Merseyside Police respectively, are part of a growing body of professional police officers whose skills are in demand in the private sector for work that ranges from threats to the security of large corporations to pursuing missing funds through tax havens.

That statement is quite interesting.

The date of publication of that Independent Article by By Cahal Milmo their Chief reporter is Saturday, 23 May 2009.
I suppose that there is a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why the company called, Alphaig Limited (Alpha Investigation Group) was founded officially after the date of the announcement – the announcement which included reference to the fact that the McCanns had been using the company since some time the previous year.



Perhaps the explanation is to be found in the slow speed of Arthur Cowley’s methods. Arthur, is after all an expert in one of the oldest communication methods used by military, security and other groups across the world.

Perhaps the company incorporation was delayed while the pigeons returned to their loft? Perhaps this specialism of his also explains the tardiness of any information which may be coming from his direction?

Maybe the pigeons got lost?

Ah well – this was one of the men chosen by the McCanns . Somehow he appears to have fallen off the radar since those halcyon days for the company which hadn’t even been formed. Strange things happen in this case.



And now we have three more expert detectives who have joined the intrepid duo. Three who we are told are working in Lisbon.

How expert are these new men in their chosen sphere?

Well let’s have a look at Ray Cooper for starters.

Ray, “who investigated war crimes in Bosnia and gang murders in Trinidad and Tobago” was introduced to us as being a new recruit to the team back at the beginning of this month in that throwaway paragraph at the end of the non-story in the Daily Mail about the non-sale of Apartment 5A.

The most cursory search on the internet brought up quite a bit about the keen amateur photographer, Ray. Some amateur mind you, his favoured camera cost many thousands of pounds back in 2007. We could see his photos from Turkey back in 2007, the Faroe Islands, New York and of course the Caribbean and Bosnia as well as the area of the UK which he seems to love – the coast of Northumbria – the photo of the houses by the sea in Craster being one of my favourites in his portfolio.


But a little more searching brought up quite a few little details – including photos of Ray.

Now you might think that he would be very occupied by his work looking for Madeleine. Well no doubt he has been and no doubt his work on his aquarium is all part of that search. Less obscure might be some of his other purchases whilst out in Portugal. Such as his Yaesu FT-900 HF Transceiver back in September, also in September a Brand New SWAT TEAM 8 SHOT RING CAP GUN. Back in August there was the 3-pack of 24hr Mains Plug In Timer Switch Time Clocks and back in June the essential Children’s Camouflage Boilersuit Overall and where would this case be without the vital Shower Curtain with hooks (mildew resistant)?

Perhaps in recent weeks the real clues have been drying up because more recently he has (as well as lots more bits and bobs for that aquarium) been spending his money on a few other things that clearly are essential for any investigator hot on the heels of the swarthy abductors such as the DVD of 111 Conspiracy Ebooks and the one containing 200 Crime Mystery & Detective Ebooks.

As for his activities in Portugal, I can tell you that he has not been spending all his time in Lisbon. His photos include shots of the coastline of the Algarve. And the Saturday AFTER Kate’s recent trip to Portugal (10th October) he spent his afternoon just a few miles from PDL out on the Atlantic coast at Amado. Nice photos by the way Ray!
