Scotland Yard detectives are said to have warned the couple it could hinder the ongoing £12m search if they discuss it publicly

MADELEINE McCann's parents have been warned by cops not to discuss the heartbreaking disappearance of their daughter ahead of the 11th anniversary next week.
Kate and Gerry were asked to appear on ITV show Loose Women but detectives told them it “would not be helpful” as they continue to chase leads in the £12m probe.

Loose Women producers were said to be “desperate” to secure an exclusive chat with the couple - also parents to 13-year-old twins Sean and Amelie -  to mark 11 years since Madeleine vanished on May 3, 2007.
A friend of the McCanns said today: “They were told it would be a softly softly discussion about how they are coping after all these years and how their twins are faring.
"But Gerry advised them they would only do media if the police wanted them to, if it could help the search for Madeleine.
"They told them it could hinder rather than help and specifically advised them not to.

“Interviewers always want to ask them about the investigation and why it has cost so much but they are not meant to discuss it for operational reasons.
"They are, of course, kept fully informed of what is going on and will be the first to know if there are any significant updates."
Heart doctor Gerry, 49, and former GP Kate, 50, have also turned down interview offers from a number of magazines and TV stations in France and Germany rather than jeopardise the investigation.
The pal added: "They’re always bombarded with requests for interviews in the run up to the anniversary.
“They are not trying to be awkward or evasive with the press, but if police don’t want them to discuss publicly their life without Madeleine they will not do so.
"They really appreciate the fact the the Metropolitan Police are still committed to looking for their daughter."
Scotland Yard and ITV both declined to comment.

Last year Kate and Gerry gave a moving interview to the BBC's Fiona Bruce to mark a decade since Madeleine went missing from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal.
Kate said she felt "guilty" over the huge sums spent on the search for her daughter when other families do not get the same publicity or money.
In the past, fees from TV and press interviews, plus the proceeds from Kate's book, have gone to the Find Madeleine Fund to pay for private investigators.
But they have also turned down "massive" offers if they did not feel they were right.
The pal said: "One American TV station told them to 'name their price' to visit the family home and film Madeleine’s bedroom. They refused.
“Their daughter’s pink room is a shrine to her, it remains unchanged since the day she vanished and no one, apart from family, is allowed in there."

Kate and Gerry, of Rothley, Leics, still cling onto a glimmer of hope Madeleine - who would now be almost 15 - could still be alive and are buoyed up by stories of other children being reunited with their families many years after going missing.
The Sun Online revealed last month that Scotland Yard had received a new cash boost from the Home Office to carry on their search until the end of September.
But the amount, rumoured to be as much as £150,000, is being kept secret amid fears of a public backlash after a rise in violent crime was linked to police budget cuts.
The Home Office said: “We are not publicising the figure applied for by the Metropolitan Police and the amount given this time.
"We remain committed to the investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine.”

Operation Grange, launched in May 2011, has so far cost the taxpayer around £12million.
Officers are pursuing “a final line of inquiry”. The Met declined to discuss any aspect of the case.
McCann family spokesman Clarence Mitchell has previously said: “Kate and Gerry are very encouraged that police still believe there is work left to be done and they are incredibly grateful to the Home Office for providing an extra budget for the investigation.”
Today a Spanish dad claimed a suspect in the Madeleine case tried to snatch his daughter from a hotel in Portugal in 2001.

So Gerry has told Loose woman programme makers,the "Police have Advised them" that it could hinder,rather than help in the search for Madeleine!
So the Police are issuing advice to Gerry,Kate in relation to missing Madeleine McCann Eleven Years later,whilst reviewing Operation Grange of a Remit of a Abduction,as per the Gold standard initiative acted on after the child had been reported missing 3 May 2007?

I'm pretty sure the Portuguese Police advised them not to say anything in the early days of Madeleine's 'abduction'  but hey! who are these sardine munching.....

The PJ told them definitely no press just hours after the disappearance was announced. But the Mcs totally ignored the only people to have ever searched for Madeleine. 

Then they paid £500,000 to Bell Pottinger to keep them in the press for 12 months. And for a further 10 years they couldn't help themselves but get in the press, for Pete's sake

Well Trace me ol' mucker, they were told much the same by the Portuguese authorities but there's always a way around these petty technicalities - I think it's generally known as a 'source close to the family'.

Fair comment.  

Allow me to clarify; as a Liverpool fan I reserve a special degree of hatred for that rag.

As far as I know they haven't "talked publicly" since the Supreme Court ruling in Portugal.

Why is this news?

I think the McCanns have overplayed the drama, they've exhausted the storyline, the public and no doubt themselves - there is nothing left to play.

Bearing in mind this vapid 'McCanns warned by cops not to speak about Madeleine during the eleventh anniversary' spews forth from the mighty hand of Tracey Kandohla, I'll wager it's an explanation as to why there will be no exclusive, no photoshoot, no bums on seats, no collection buckets - in fact no nothing!

They must understand the prevailing wind, they must understand that folk no longer swallow their proffered bones to chew.

Now the search for little Katrice Lee has been reopened in Germany , how long before Tracey Kandohla ( Olive Oyl ) jumps on the bandwagon with a new piece " connecting " her dear friends the McCanns to this search ?

At Christmas, Brian Healy's health problems were the excuse for no appeal.  On the 11th Anniverary, McCanns remained silent because police told them too. 

Isn't it a bit late for the police to ask them to keep quiet? We have put up them in our papers, book shops, magazines, on the TV and radio etc. non-stop for 11 years.

What's   the real reason for their silence?  Afraid of putting their foot in it?

Hi Sharon,perhaps the UK Police have been unable to "square the circle,a Brotherhood" of missing Madeleine McCann's case,especially after the Portugal PJ released their files on the case,something the"Spooks" may have overlooked?

The only people keeping the Lid closed is the Government with their special D notices(National Security) stipulated to Madeleine McCann case to MSM sources?

What can they say ? They must be scared of going into a TV studio and any mention of losing their court action against Amaral. How y'all getting on at the ECHR folks ? Are they going to come out in support of a 11 year investigation that hasn't turned over one new credible lead ? How is your own "investigation" getting along ? How does going on TV in the UK assist a search in Portugal - which was shelved (and which they were content with) ?  They have nothing new to say but face the prospect of a whole lot of new questions they'd rather avoid.

Loose Women is filmed with a studio audience. Don't want to risk an outraged member of the public voicing what most people believe, live on daytime telly, perhaps?
