A second man has been detained over the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl at a wedding party in Isère, eastern France.
The man, who was in the area at the time, will be questioned over "contradictions" in his statement to police, a source told French media.......
He was absent at a time that could correspond to Maelys's disappearance, said state prosecutor Dietlind Baudoin, and investigators wanted him to explain a "hole" in his account of his activities.
Police were also examining a mobile phone that he concealed from the authorities, a source close to the investigation told AFP news agency.

What would the public/police think if either of the men detained refused to answer 48 questions put to them about the "holes" and contradictions in their statements?

I must admit to being most surprised that a week after this poor girl's disappearance there has still been no attempt by team McCann and their media friends to jump aboard the band-wagon as they previously have done, even in circumstances which bore only the most tenuous similarities to Madeleine's "abduction". Here the police have said abduction is likely, yet no comment from the McCanns &Co. A striking factor is how Maelys' parents have stayed out of the spotlight. I have not seen them named, read of their anguish, heard of them joining forces with CEOP etc. By day one after Madeleine's disappearance Kate and Gerry were international household names. It only goes to reinforce how unique the aftermath of Madeleine's disappearance truly was. I pray for this young girl and her family.

With still no trace of missing nine-year-old Maelys de Aguiar - the daughter of a Portuguese emigré living in France and his French wife - French newspaper Dauphine Liberé has revealed that one of the men arrested last week has now been charged and placed in pre-trial custody on the basis of DNA traces discovered in his car. Portuguese papers are repeating the Dauphine Liberé story which claims the ‘first’ man arrested last week - and released on Friday - was re-arrested as a result of tests on the car which purportedly flagged “traces of Maelys’ DNA in the passenger compartment”.

AND her DNA was in his car . . .
How much more do Grange need to start questioning . . .?

Portuguese papers are repeating the Dauphine Liberé story which claims the ‘first’ man arrested last week - and released on Friday - was re-arrested as a result of tests on the car which purportedly flagged “traces of Maelys’ DNA in the passenger compartment”.
Whether the “passenger compartment” is the back seat or the passenger seat is not instantly clear.
What does appear clear is that the man had completely cleaned his car the day after Maelys went missing (click here), telling police this was because he was putting it up for sale.

A man has been charged with kidnapping in connection with the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl during a wedding in the French Alps.

A man has been charged with kidnapping . . .
Most of the 180 guests at the party have been questioned by detectives, and the suspect was initially detained on Thursday after inconsistencies were found in his statement.

Grenoble's public prosecutor said: "Brought before investigating judges, he contested the facts. Confronted with testimony, findings and scientific evidence, he persisted in his denials.
"This did not convince the investigative judges, who decided to hold him."
Concerns have grown that Maelys was kidnapped and driven away after sniffer dogs lost the scent from her cuddly toy in a car park outside the venue.
Scores of police - including specialist divers - have spent the week trawling through heavily wooded areas for signs of Maelys.
On Saturday, hundreds of volunteers braved heavy rain to join the search effort.
In the meantime, police have been scouring through photos and videos taken by wedding guests to look for any unusual activity.
