McCanns gutted by Maddie cop’s show:
Bid to halt a UK version on web
MADELEINE McCann’s parents were last night considering legal action over a TV show about their missing daughter.
By Jerry Lawton / Published 16th February 2017
ACTION: Maddie McCann’s parents were last night considering legal action
The programme appeared on the internet in English after the couple spent nine years trying to ban it.
It was made in Portugal to accompany ex-detective Goncalo Amaral’s controversial book about the three-year-old’s 2007 disappearance.
In it Mr Amaral, 57, repeats claims about events in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.
MYSTERY: The TV show is about missing Madeleine
Parents Kate and Gerry launched a legal bid for a lifelong gagging order on the show and book, and £1million in libel damages.
The couple, both 48, who believe their daughter was abducted and may still be alive, said his claim she was dead had hampered the search.
Both the programme and book were outlawed, and in 2015 Mr Amaral was ordered to pay them 500,000 euros (£430,000) in damages by a Portuguese judge.
PROGRAMME: It was made in Portugal to accompany Goncalo Amaral’s book
But the award was overturned, and both the book and a DVD of the show are back in circulation.
The McCanns have been ordered to pay Mr Amaral’s legal costs, which could wipe out the fund set up to find their daughter.
He is said to be seeking a British publisher to release his book in the UK for the first time.
TV SHOW: The programme appeared on the internet in English
Now the TV show has appeared on YouTube with an English voice-over.
Last night the McCanns’ lawyers, London libel specialists Carter-Ruck, were considering legal action.
The couple’s spokesman said: “Any potentially defamatory material found online will be reviewed and assessed by Kate and Gerry’s lawyers.”
During their legal battle against Mr Amaral one of the McCanns’ lawyers, Ricardo Correia Afonso, said in court: “His book is written like a novel and that’s exactly what it is.’’
-------------------------------------------
"The couple, both 48, who believe their daughter was abducted and may still be alive, said his claim she was dead had hampered the search."
but
When ex DCI Redwood, SIO of OG, for 3 1/2 YEARS said 'she (Madeleine) may not have left her apartment ALIVE" 'that' DIDN'T 'hamper' the 'search' for a 'live' Madeleine?
'quotes', verbatim:
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, added "that there was a possibility that she had not left her family's holiday apartment alive when she disappeared" in May 2007.
and
Ex DCI Redwood also said "the assumption that Madeleine was abducted, may not follow with all our thinking on the case."
jta: Thx for the 'heads up' for the 'TV show' being on the internet, in 'English', Jerry!

Dr Martin Roberts: "The evidence is that these are the pjyamas Madeleine wore on holiday in Praia da Luz. They were photographed and the photo handed to a press agency, who released it on 8 May, as the search for Madeleine continued. The McCanns held up these same pyjamas at two press conferences on 5 & 7June 2007. How could Madeleine have been abducted?"

The joys of the internet. They can't stop this. If it's legal to watch and read in Portugal, they should abandon all pursuit of trying to sue anyone for it in any country. It really is pointless since today's society is so global and instantly accessible. They probably didn't consider that would happen ten years ago.

The more they whinge about things that people shouldn't be allowed to see or read in this country, the more people share it on twitter, facebook groups, blogs, forums, youtube etc.
People DO see and read these things! All they do is draw attention to them
Gerry and Kate McCensor certainly are certainly 'Hacked off' !!
And running scared.

Defamatory? to defame someone they have to have an intact reputation. They stained their own character when saying they neglected their children.
Their character has been damaged further by the supreme court ruling that they are still not cleared and there are serious doubts over their story.
They may threaten but surely they don't have a leg to stand on.

"The McCanns have been ordered to pay Mr Amaral’s legal costs, which could wipe out the fund set up to find their daughter."
Why should the fund be used to pay? People donated to find Madeline not to provide the parents with the money to sue all and sundry and pay their legal costs, especially when they lose. The McCanns took the legal action and costs are their responsibility. That money was donated for Madeline. The way I see it, they are stealing from their daughter

Absolutely.
People donated to help find Madeleine, not to sue people whose opinions they don't like. Opinions based on "well founded suspicions".
This should be shouted long and hard.

We've all had one of those situations being told " don't look behind you now , but"
Human nature , you have to look !
So is it
The McCanns really are incredibly stupid
Their ' advisors ' really are incredibly stupid
Their 'advisors ' or whoever is ' using /manipulating ' them is following the " wider Agenda" ?
Once again Madeleine who ?

KM's book is frankly complete bollocks. Only a brain dead moron (large proportion of the British people included) could possibly believe the tripe written by that vile hag.

IT'S A FREE COUNTRY and PEOPLE CAN SPECULATE.
THERE WAS AN ARTICLE YESTERDAY IN THE PAPER WHICH QUOTED A SOURCE/SPOKESMAN/ FOR TEAM MR. & MRS.
IMO there is so much frustration/anger/disappointment/WHATEVER in their camp that nobody appears to know what to do or say.
Also IMO nobody will be sued over this. A letter from CR might be sent and that might work getting it removed but I do not believe that they will want to get into a civil court again. Unless of course they can prove that the SUPREME COURT JUDGES were FRIVOLOUS blah blah.
Good luck with that - NOT.
Give it a rest now PLEASE.
