A cover-up theory

Sorry if this has been covered before.
Over the years I have read many posts suggesting that some members of the tapas group might have been involved with paedophile activity and / or questioning why the McCanns would be entitled to so much assistance from the government.
I personally have always been sceptical about these claims believing that is is more likely that Madeleine was involved in an accident, but what I am now wondering is whether the McCanns situation has come about purely by chance?
Is it pure coincidence that their daughter disappeared from PdL, possibly as the result of an accident? Is it possible that others in the area were paedophiles and although having nothing whatsoever to do with the McCann case, did not want the police looking to closely at their activities?
What I mean is maybe instead of the McCanns being protected, that they are actually being managed, to prevent other information from being investigated?

Putting the McCanns at the centre of this mystery could be a big mistake if they are puppets in the saga. Team McCann could be a misnomer.
