High court judge orders Trinity Mirror to compensate Sadie Frost, Paul Gascoigne and others for suffering caused by intrusions

The publisher of the Daily and Sunday Mirror has been ordered to pay £1.2m in compensation to eight phone-hacking victims, including the actor Sadie Frost and the former footballer Paul Gascoigne.
Frost was awarded £260,250 in what is believed to be the single biggest privacy damages payout since the phone-hacking scandal broke in 2010.
Gascoigne is to receive £188,250 in compensation from Trinity Mirror after the former England footballer told the high court he was driven to alcoholism and severe paranoia when journalists snooped on his voicemails from 2000 to 2010.
The newspaper group, which also publishes the People, was accused at a high court trial in March of industrial-scale phone hacking that made the News of the World look “like a small cottage industry”.
On Thursday, the judge, Mr Justice Mann, ordered what he described as “very substantial” payouts after considering the scale of intrusion suffered by the eight claimants.
The newspaper group had been sued by Gascoigne, Frost, the BBC executive Alan Yentob, Coronation Street actor Shobna Gulati, flight attendant Lauren Alcorn, TV producer Robert Ashworth and EastEnders actors Lucy Taggart and Shane Richie.
Trinity Mirror admitted at the start of the three-week trial that more than 100 articles about the eight claimants were the result of phone hacking. The civil case is the first of its kind to result in a high court trial.
A criminal investigation into voicemail interception at the three titles is running in parallel to the civil hearing.
Ashworth, a former Coronation Street producer who told the court that phone hacking had ruined his media career and his marriage to soap actor Tracy Shaw, was awarded £201,250 for the invasion of his privacy.
Taggart received a £157,250 payout, while Richie got £155,000, Gulati got £117,500, Yentob was awarded £85,000 and Alcorn got £78,500.
The payouts dwarf those paid by News UK, the publisher of the now-defunct News of the World, to phone-hacking victims. In contrast to those payouts, the Trinity Mirror damages were decided by a high court judge after the victims refused to settle out of court.
Giving evidence during the trial, Frost described how the voicemail interception made her suspect close relatives and friends of selling stories about her to the press, to such an extent that she even made her mother sign a non-disclosure agreement.

In true ‘Mc-style’, it seems we can often assume the opposite of what is said to be the truth and with hacking rife through to 2010, I would frankly be amazed if their phones weren’t hacked by somebody.
 
To issue a denial lets both sides off the hook, as if they weren’t hacked, there can’t be anything dodgy to be investigated, lying in wait to be revealed.
 
If they did decide to change their minds, they can always change the story, because in ‘McWorld’ it doesn’t seem to matter.
 
I would similarly be amazed if phone and computer hacking was not still widespread today, just better used and with any resulting stories having a ‘reporting audit trail’ leading clearly away from any illegal story source, but obviously have no evidence to back my thoughts up.

No need for the tabloids to phone hack the Mcs. They had the incredibly useful Clarence to pass on whatever vital Maddie investigation information they needed. No point in having a dog and barking yourself, irrespective of what it's alerting to

IMO they were bound to have been hacked (I`m sure journalists wouldn`t take Clarence Mitchell`s word for anything).

The Mcs must be cursing that they can`t cash in on this little opportunity and try and get more compensation for being hacked.  Apparently there are still hundreds (if not thousands) of people that have writs waiting to be heard against the MSM hackers.

Surely he can't have been wrong, can he ?
Surely he would not have "made it up" would he ?
Surely he would have checked and cross checked his sources, wouldn't he ?
Surely , even now, he would be able to identify the person who told him, on good authority, wouldn't he ?

There is the rub of the green, in the early part of the journalists being alerted and major story, missing Madeleine McCann.
The media was used by Clarence Mitchell,MSM to misinform,convolute their agenda,look at the article by Blacksmith,Legends in their own minds for their campaign!?
As you point out Martin Brunt, was he heading in the right direction early on in the investigation and suddenly changed tac,from his pay masters, Rupert Murdoch "he who pays the piper calls the tunes"?
If my memory is right did GM and DP go out looking for Madeleine in the early hours of 4 May 2007,when the GNR were scaling back the initial search after 5 hrs  or more?

To Tony Bennett,
Did one of the senior PJ Police have his phone hacked and possibly in the process of being blackmailed by a voluptuous lady set up by the MSM?
Perhaps he could contact a Lawyer for Defamation and highlight the source of who was hacking his phone records?

but was not able to extricate any other information besides what is already known. He declares that he saw Madeleine, for the last time, at 17H00 on 3/5/07 in the McCann apartment. Also present there were Kate and Gerry. He did not indicate the motive for being there or what he was doing. He also cannot indicate how long he stayed.

When asked with whom he was on the afternoon of May 3rd, he declares that this information was already offered to the police and cannot remember if anyone else was there.

He does not remember what he was wearing that afternoon.

He took part in the searches, having carried out most of them alone. He was at times accompanied by Matthew Oldfield.

He did not partake in the searches realized on the 4th of May, because, on this day, he spent to majority of time in the police headquarters.

You must be mistaken of where DP was when he last saw Madeleine McCann 3 May 2007 and the time?
According to statements GM was playing tennis at around 17.00 hrs,DP and family was having their tea with the Tapas group at paradisio beach bar after Tapas friends,RO,MO had been sailing on a catamaran the same day,!?
After tea,DP,RO,MO and tennis coach played tennis,GM had played enough tennis and went back to his apartment to his wife and family,post 18.30pm the same day,put his children to bed and had a Tapas meal evening with his friends until Madeleine was discovered missing at around 22.00pm.
Obviously this is a shortened event of their statements and one needs to look at the PJ files for actual verification of all statements taken.
