Daily Mirror... Cost Of British Police Search Tops £10Million
The amounts were revealed following a freedom of information request. I wonder who that was from?
I noticed also that Scotland Yard refused to comment about payments to Portuguese Police for the search.
Hunt for missing Madeleine McCann: Cost of British police search tops £10million
Hunt: Madeleine McCann
The cost of the British police search for Madeleine McCann will top £10million as a new drive for the truth gives fresh hope to her parents.
Scotland Yard’s review of the youngster’s disappearance seven years ago will cost more than double the original £5million that was estimated by the Home Office.
But the Home Office last night defended the rising cost and said: “The Government believes it is right that it does all it can to support the search for Madeleine McCann.
“The Home Office will continue to work closely with the Metropolitan Police to review and control the costs appropriately and to ensure that the investigation has the resources it requires.”

Missing: Madeleine McCann
It comes as a top Portuguese prosecutor takes over solving the mystery of Madeleine’s disappearance from her holiday apartment.
Ines Sequeira is said to be ‘‘utterly determined’’ to solve the case.
And Metropolitan Police officers are also planning to return to the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz to ‘‘re-interview’’ three suspects in their push to find the kidnappers. They have sent a sent a fifth letter to Portuguese officers requesting access to the investigation, which has thrown up seven suspects.
Scotland Yard has handed the Home Office a bill for £7,332,389 since 2011 when the force was called in by David Cameron.
Figures show police received a special grant payment of £1.9million in 2011/2012, £2.8million in 2012/2013 and £2.6million in 2013/2014.
The amounts were revealed following a Freedom of Information request. It showed the bill for 2014/2015 is expected to be “broadly in line with previous years”. That will take the total to above £10million.
Thirty murder squad detectives are continuing the hunt in Portugal.
Expensive specialist forensic units have carried out excavations around Praia da Luz from where Madeleine went missing in 2007, aged three.
Scotland Yard refused to comment about payments to Portuguese police for the search.
A Met spokesman said: “We are not prepared to give a running commentary on the search.”
Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry from Rothley, Leics, have been assured the search will go on for the “foreseeable future”.
A spokesman for the family said: “Madeleine’s parents remain extremely grateful for the work carried out by officers from Operation Grange in the continued search for their daughter.”

IMO it is more than likely that as Redwood said, she may be alive, or sadly dead (words to that effect) on CW this could just be referring to "the abductor" who may have murdered Madeleine. I don't think it is encouraging at all - it is possible they are looking for someone to pin it on.
Also might be why no mention of the dogs alerting in the apartment - don't want to even discuss it.

Yes - given that Portuguese police on the scene that very night that Madeleine was supposedly 'abducted' clearly did not believe a word of what the McCanns and their friends said.
Why would they?

Re: Daily Mirror... Cost Of British Police Search Tops £10Million
It could reach 15 million at this rate and we will still be none the wiser by the look of things.
Doesn't seem to be much rush at all.
If I were the parents I would be shouting from the roof tops at the length of time it is taking and I would also volunteer a reconstruction in case it enabled the police to pick up on any tiny aspect which might help them.
Still, as we have frequently been told, we are all different. Damn right because I would have answered those 48 questions by now as well.
Would a stamp on a letter to the portugese police - directly from the parents - help to get things moving faster I wonder? If it would then I know that is exactly what I would do and offer to do a lie detector test. Anything to try and get answers quickly.

We've had so many contradictory theories thrown out by the Met that the inquiry has lost all credibility - it's clear that it is not following one or two strong lines of inquiry unlike most legitimate Police investigations end up doing. The chances of them really solving the crime seem very, very slim - they're just flailing around.
The fact they appear never to have re-interviewed the Tapas 9 in any meaningful sense says it all really.

They did a "reconstruction" in the mockumentary - why not offer one involving all the Tapas 9 for the benefit of the UK police. If they don't want to go back to Portugal it could be done on a "pegged out" field in the UK.

10 million quid looking for "kidnappers", of whom there has never been a single scintilla of evidence?
They may as well just put bundles of banknotes down the drain.
I suppose they want it to continue though because no doubt they are racking up huge expense bills in sunny portugal.

SY appear to have no idea how to close down this investigation. Right now, their £10m spend has netted them... a sock. Their ever more desperate theories and public humiliation in the recent "dig" has made them an international laughing-stock. I guess they are just too embarrassed to admit defeat and disband the team. And so they persist with this charade and the bogus 'arguidos' -racking up massive costs each and every day as they chase wild geese down blind alleys all around the Algarve.
Perhaps the Summers book was supposed to be a key part of the End-Game. I think it was. But its miserable results and the resulting universal derision, along with Brenda's death has dumped that plan down the pan.

£10million, would go a long way towards the 1% the nurses are looking for
Anyhow, impossible to solve a crime if you're directed to look down blind alleyways rather that behind the door with the flashing lights & big sign saying 'look here'.

I bet they have!

Why would you search waste ground with cadaver dogs if you thought she had been kidnapped ?
Why would you use a helicopter to take aerial photos of disturbed ground if you thought she had been kidnapped ?
Why would you use ground penetrating radar if you thought she had been kidnapped ?
Just a thought - erm, yer 'no

Re: Daily Mirror... Cost Of British Police Search Tops £10Million
The posturing of the Operation Grange detectives [ at least I assume that they are real detectives] is not only very tiresome, it is also deeply humiliating to SY reputation both at home and abroad.
Most people can work out for themselves that in order to investigate any incident, you start with what you are presented with and eliminate [or not]those closest to the incident. Then once that is done, move on to other scenarios and people if necessary.
However, in this case, the investigation remains deeply flawed and ridiculous, since it appears to every onlooker that worrying gaps and blatant falsehoods in the statements given to the PJ by those closest to the incident continue to be off-bounds.
It sends clear messages:
Get the media involved quickly on your side and appoint someone to control information [or misinformation] given to them.
Try to appeal to the public to give money to you.
Get lawyered up and pay for the best legal advice from the funds given to you from the public.
Refuse to co-operate with the Police and wait and see what 'evidence' they can get
Sit it out and with your reputation consultants devise photo opportunities.
Threaten specific individuals who would publicly doubt your version and ban publications.
Wait and wait to see what the Police have got.

Board = Praia da Luz Ocean Club Complex
Piles of cards that you can pick up with different Clues
e.g. Bernard Hogan - saying ' it is a murder case tskk I mean missing girl case '
Different roles
e.g. Pinky counter - where Clarence ejects PR lies
eta this case is a tragedy in many ways - so sometimes you just had to see the funny side

Why would you, as experienced, elite, hard nosed, career cops , 'BELIEVE', unquestionably , an 'abduction' story TOLD only to you BY the parents of the 'abducted' child?
Especially given that an experienced, elite, hard nosed, career cop, from another police force, an Assistant Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police, has stated, on record, in a UK courtroom, “while one or both of them may be innocent, there is no clear evidence that eliminates them from involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.”
WHY didn't the McCanns challenge this Assistant Chief Constable's 'statement' in the courtroom?
Instead of, in Kate McCanns words, "we made a tactical RETREAT and withdrew"
(p. 316.....madeleine)
In his statement to the Court, the Assistant Chief Constable of Leicestershire Police wrote: “While one or both of them may be innocent, there is no clear evidence that eliminates them from involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance”. Dr Kate: “We were completely staggered. No evidence to eliminate us?…that line stuck in our heads as ‘guilty until proven innocent’.” Dr McCann said they made ‘a tactical retreat’ to ‘accept a smaller amount of information’: “Having to withdraw was quite galling........"
------------------------------------------------------
Dr Kate McCann said: “We were completely staggered. No evidence to eliminate us?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Well that's an easy 'one' to sort out, isn't it?
PROVIDE the WORLD with the 'evidence' that irrefutably, beyond contestation, PROVES, and eliminates, you and your husband, and anyone you may know, from 'involvement' in your daughter's 'disappearance'
SIMPLES!
Just SAYING "To be honest, it weren't us, or our friends, guv" might seem a 'reality' in McCannWorld, but, in the REAL world, just saying THAT is viewed rather, erm 'differently'.

Without intending to follow the ‘game’ thread, I believe it is just being played out as a poker game between PJ and SY to see who blinks first.
After the way they have been treated, the PJ will not let SY see their cards, however much Redwood sucks up to them.
In the absence of this knowledge, SY dare not come up with ‘a result’ as the PJ can then show their hand and ‘get their own back’ by revealing the SY investigation to be the complete fraud it seems to be.
Maybe S&S were introduced to try and hurry things along, but this has failed miserably.
So Redwood can just enjoy the sunshine and pizza’s once in a while and keep playing the game.

Given the length of time Scotland Yard has been involved in this case, I don't believe for a moment that there are still 30 highly qualified, elite policemen working on the case - assuming there ever was.
What would that number be doing all this time? There has been time for the case files to have been gone over a dozen times, plus they have had the help and input of fora like this one and the input of many individuals highlighting helpful, checkable information.
And still SY persist in returning to Portugal to further interview 3 suspects. Why would they need to interview them again; given the distances involved you would think they would have stayed until they had all the answers they needed the last time.
And that would have given them more time to start interviewing the McCanns and their tapas mates.
